Hamann: Carrick is the best holding midfielder in England by a country mile

QUOTE
The former Liverpool man believes that the Englishman is underrated by those in the national set-up and took to Twitter to praise the 31-year-old after he scored versus Galatasaray

Former Germany international Dietmar Hamann says that Manchester United man Michael Carrick is "the best holding midfielder in England by a country mile", after he netted the opening goal in their Champions League clash against Galatasaray.

The 31-year-old former Tottenham man was left out of the Three Lions' Euro 2012 campaign this summer, but was recently recalled to the squad by manager Roy Hodgson for the friendly against Italy and the World Cup qualifiers with Moldova and Ukraine.

Although Carrick played the full 90 minutes against the Azzurri, he did not start in either of the qualifying clashes and Hamann - who scored the final goal at the old Wembley Stadium for Germany in 2001 - believes that the Newcastle-born midfielder is being underused by the national team.

He tweeted: "Great goal by Carrick, how he doesn't start for England I will never know.

"He [Carrick] is the best holding midfielder England have got by a country mile."

yeah unfortunately it seems that his penalty miss and a couple of bad plays made him the scapegoat for this game after welbeck last game

the multiple chances he created for kagawa rvp chicharito are all forgotten...not to mention kagawa and him were easily the two best attacking players on the pitch

Biasalah... Miss PK and didn't score any goal on that match = poor game, useless, sell him

Hernandez missed PK but scored goal= omg, he is good, give him chance

Van Persie missed PK but hattrick = omg, he is god-like

Don't buy Ronaldo please. Buy Mikel. He can "pass" so well. Oh my.

But on a serious note, great to see Fletch back. smile.gif

great to see Fletcher coming back.. i always have a doubt, but happy to see im wrong on this.. hopefully he can improve his fitness and coming back to his level 2,3 years ago, and Cleverley and Anderson progress well and stay fit. we'll have very decent midfield.

not worry much about Liverpool. though they are game raiser against us.

their new manager seem keen to play proper football, keep the ball well and on the ground. it suit us more cause recently we are more struggling with 'physical' football. less high cross for DDG to deal with (if he play) since their forward line arent much tall, though Skertl could hurt us in corner kicks. Gerrard and Suarez freekicks are always dangerous.

Lucas was always a key player against us in recent years. his absence a big plus for us. though Allen seem good enough to fill the void left by the Brazilian.

hopefully we'll see an entertaining game. United vs Liverpool usually a dull affair, all about passion and result. normally i'll take a draw away at Anfield, but i really want to see a win this time..

i look forward to seeing kagawa and nani building a strong understanding and partnership in creating chances in our game.

they'll be a handful for opposing teams.

preferred lineup this sunday -

DDG

Rafeal - Rio - Vida - Buttner
Cleverly - C16 - S18
Nani - RVP - Sushi

seems like there is more chemistry between nani and sushi

unlikely for Scholes to play 3 games in 7-8 days, he already showed signs of fatigue during the CL game, for me just use back the lineup against Galatasaray, but swap Evans for Rio, Cleverley or Anderson for Scholes

but we sucked at Anfield for the past few years, so not really hoping much for this Sunday, just that we play good football, that's all

you got a point there..din notice he already played 2 games in a row..then maybe giggs will take his place since SAF will want a veteran to be on pitch

from starting CL team in midweek.. probably SAF will swap
Evans for Ferdinand
Scholes for Giggs /Cleverley, i prefer Cleverley. actually Scholes will be my top choice but seem unlikely because he already started twice in less a week. Carrick-Cleverley will be solid for defending, but less creative coming forward. creativity spark can be provide by Kagawa and Nani.

i got no problem with either GK, but i hope SAF retain DDG. Liverpool unlikely to play with long balls /high crosses.

keep Rooney on bench even if he fit to start. try Rooney-RVP combo on home game first. this will be high tempo and crunching game, no need for experimental.

Sterling vs Rafael will be exciting duel. Sterling could also be a real threat against Evra, pace /trickery vs experience.

actually Cleverley and Ando at midfield might just suit Kagawa more since he thrives when players around him moves constantly (him and Nani worked well so far precisely because of that)

and as for GK, i do hope that DDG will be the undisputed no.1 for us from now on, only us is "rotating" that position and it sucks for both GK actually
