The idea is if you cannot gurantee you opponents safety while lunging into the tackle ( there are alot of hard tackles done safely using correct technique ), than you should pull out of it. Of course, granted, that there are very limited opportunity for that judgement process to happen being Shelvey in a Liverpool vs Man United match at Anfield.

BUt still, never mind if the blades can cut an artery or something, Shelvey's leg was visually in full momentum in perpinducular to Evan's shin bone. if he cannot control his momentum any further, not much more force needed to break those bone. Football mut not only be save, but it must also appear to be save as well. Thats the referee job and Selvey left the referee no choice...

Saying that, Evan's lunge was equally dangerous as well. Both should be red carded IMO. The ref took time to judge the situation carefully and made the correct call on Shelvey but dissapointingly choked on Evans.

Lol...quite obvious which one it is right? But I was really impressed by Gerrard yesterday. Way to step up. A few brilliant long balls even though we have been advertised as playing the short ball approach. I do wonder though, if Shelvey were on the pitch, would Gerrard have performed the same?

Of course. He was impressive all over the field. Steady passes. Less sloppiness. Good positioning, great finishing. Couldnt ask for more from our captain.

2. both went in with studs, no saints here
3. tbh, Evans did get the ball, a fraction of a second ahead but still his challenge is as dangerous

The fact that we are criticising Mark Halsey for his bad decisions yesterday doesn't make his decisions right, so what's the issue? Did Evans not foul Suarez before getting the ball? Did Evans not go in with both feet off the ground, studs showing? Forget common sense, anyone with the gift of sight can give you the right answer. It's natural for a club that has benefited from decisions to take shots at clubs who haven't. I mean not everyone can stomach admitting to winning with a little bit of help. The way I see it if you get a bit of help, you get a bit of help, what's wrong with admitting to it. Doesn't make you a crap team does it? I don't see them thanking their lucky stars when things go their way. It's also a case of the pot calling the kettle black if you ask me. Like they've never blamed the ref. Mike Riley who was once their darling and who is now the chief of referees once came under scrutiny. The fact that he had previously awarded the most number of penalties to them had suddenly eluded them and he was vilified for making decisions against them. How ungrateful Now pointing fingers at others for complaining about unfair treatment is one thing, not admitting that it is true is another.

I don't see how anyone can say that Evans didn't deserve a card if Shelvey did. Both players had at one point went in with both feet, no? Doesn't matter if Evans was thinking of butterflies when he launched himself at the ball. Fact of the matter is he went in, studs showing.

Lets forget bout the Shelvey challenge. It was reckless. tbh, i dont think it was a red card but shelvey should not have gone for the challenge, it was needless as the ball was in MU's half. The guy is honest, young and a little hot blooded. He will learn from all this if he is half as good as Gerrard was. What i like is he showed passion and wanted to get the ball at every opportunity. Unfortunately he only had the red card to show for. no doubt he will learn and be smarter (both tackling and acting-wise) in the future. No point arguing with united fans as most of the younger fans do no know the meaning of supporting a club that might not win anything year in year out. They've won everything in the last 10-15 years and only when SAF steps down, then we will see who's the real fan of the club when they are in midtable. I've known Arsenal fans (the invincibles) who switched allegiance to Chelsea (Roman Era) and even a supposedly Aston Villa fan switch to ManCity (oil era). Baffling, but there are a lot of MU fans that are in that category. Only time will tell.
