Suarez was fouled and should have won that penalty. Say what you want about him but he's the only real goal threat and has actually been scoring quite regularly for us. The main concern is Borini and Sterling, can they effectively replace the goals from Kuyt and Maxi. That's the real question.
*
Borini is the direct replacement of Kuyt. Work rate, selfless and even poor finishing from Kuyt all can be found in Borini. The only good thing about Borini is he has the pace Kuyt lacks. At the same time, he is bad in the sense that he is easily lost in the game while Kuyt always know what he is going to do.

Its already bad reading some dreadful and really stupid comments in this thread, but to read some mindless freaks banging their keyboards - sometime you would wonder - 'my god, are they watching another game, in another dimension!!' Seriously guys - a notable few, you know who you are - your comments sounded like SCUM, and that you have nothing better to do but troll in this thread....rightly or wrongly, i hope you are not trolls, they are lowest in the food chain. Sometimes, the thing you write, tells a lot about you, your credibility and your understanding of the game. If you are not good enough, dont write - get some tuition or something, but dont write! Its blardy awful reading it! I for one, will take note of those few names who, probably tranverse or time travel a few dimensions, watching different version of Liverpool play a  different version of Sunderland - probably high on Ice or whatever party drugs- yes -you, please spare urself some credibility, and spare us some really awful incomprehension, STOP WRITTING

Back to Liverpool, didnt watch the game in full, but we tend to play better away last season, but to have this performance for an away game, i think i take a lot of the positives. Last season, away to Sunderland - our 1st game - correct me if I am wrong - we play awful, and also outplayed, out manouvre and out fought - the same cannot be said this time.

I been saying about Stevie. G's decline, but i tot he played much better yesterday - and please please you guys, if your misconception or expectation of gerard is about lung-busting or door breaking move in the centre and scoring with a thunderbolt all the time - think again - its not saturday everyday...best to bring down your expectation, or even better - erase the part where he score 19 goals season- its been playing at a rewind in your memory and its not healthy in the long run
*
I agree with most of that as i thought there were a lot of positives last night, but you need to calm down man. I've had a lot of disagreement on this thread but you should never attack your fellow reds like that. Telling them they sound like a scum and getting high on ice is way over the top. It's a frustrating period for a lot of us, so if we're going to discuss things lets not inflame it further with anger. Remember that it's always better to educate than to condemn.

It was never about Gerrard pulling a rabbit out of a hat yet again, we know he is aging. It is about him stopping play too often not keeping the passes flowing, though it wasn't just him.

Agree with the summary and i do think he's Kuyt replacement. He needs to score soon tho, otherwise it's hard to justify a starting place for him. There's no way he can take the right flank from Sterling, and Assaidi will probably settle on the left when he gets fit. Makes you wonder what happens if and when Yesil breaks through.

Agreed, the only positive is age is on his side. Given time he might turn out to be a gem just as Lucas did when majority of the fans were calling for his head.

Sunderland manager Martin O’Neill admitted: “Liverpool deserved to equalise because they had the better of the second half. If that’s 11 games without a win, it’s a statistic we’d like to change.”

I would love it if we get a wealthy owner to buy us sucess but I wouldn't feel good about it. I despise what Chelsea did but look at their success and man city. I would rather we win the pl the old fashion way..the right way. It seems alittle farfetched in this modern world but I still have the patience.

Anyway, first thing is to sort out gerrard. He is the weak link in the current side. He needs to reinvent his playing style. I always think that he is the best midfielder England has ever seen but his style of play doesn't age well. He is not adjusting. Just compare him to lampard and scholes or giggs. They get older but they also get smarter by adjusting their style of play according to their age. Gerrard is not there yet sadly. He's lost his pace, passing accuracy and shooting power/accuracy so he can't do what he used to do anymore. He was always some sort of a talented magical player unlike lampard who is more limited but use his limited ability to full effect. He need to learn that because lfc's greatest player is also its greatest weakness.

I think most of the people here just picks on Gerrard and make the most out of his mistake on passes .. he did made a few long cross forward giving the ball to Sterling .. I watched the full 94 minutes so I know. Don't expect 100% passing accuracy when you try to make an ambitious pass to your team mates ..

True, he did make quite a few good long passes. I think our downfall in yesterday's match, no matter how well we played, is we got caught in possession a lot of times, and as I mentioned earlier, we kept the ball in the wrong 3rd for too long.

One thing I did like was seeing Suarez run after to get back the ball after he'd been dispossessed.

I'm okay with Gerrard. He dare to pass to break the defense but seem the team movement not really smooth and sometimes they just stand at there waiting for the ball. Allen was good for preparing the ball to Gerrard too. And Downing was awful as usual.
I wonder why Brendan Rodgers didn't sub in Sahin or Assaidi (nvr watch his game yet) to improve the game. Seem they're satisfied with draw.
Anyway, work in progress. tongue.gif

The thing is most of us here have seen him play for the past decade or so and he has seen him struggled as CM. He hasn't cut it at both domestic and international level, so there's a strong doubt over his ability to reinvent himself. He had always been a battering ram type of midfielder so it's a bit strange to see him struggling to maintain a certain tactical discipline in central midfield. Yesterday was one of his better game playing as a CM but you have to admit he didn't look quite comfortable playing that deep. His positioning was dubious at times and i didn't think he quite clicked with Allen. Like i said before, there were times Gerrard strayed into Allen's position to a point where they could had been holding hands. Allen didn't have the best of game yesterday by his own standard, and imo Gerrard played a role in that.

we almost played the entire 2nd half in sunderland's half, so it would be unwise to disrupt the tempo and rhythm with subs imo.the only thing we lacking is a finisher

actually, Brendan Rodgers complained that we were too impatient in our final 3rd. So...

I supposed a longer final 3rd play is within the framework of BR's version of tiki-taka.

We're shite, and we know it smile.gif

There, saying that is therapeutic. It got me through the defending calamity of the 'spice boys' , the later years of Houllier's reign, the later years of Benitez' tinkering, almost the whole season of Hodgson's defeatist approach and most importantly the Gillett and Hick's ownership. Have had to bring it out a bit earlier than usual this time round for Rodgers, but with a fixture schedule from hell, it was probably expected blush.gif
