Mainly its because Stevie was not discipline positionally imo. You can see that his movment is very unpredictable. It is good if you are unpredictable to fool your opponent but its another thing alltogether if you fool your own teammates in the process.  And i think his role today is too similar to Allen's. Second striker role fits him better i think.
Agreed. That's my main concern with him playing in CM. Someone like Lucas may not be as talented as Gerrard but at least he's consistent at his job. Defenders know his habit and his positioning, and he circulates the ball quickly. With Stevie, our tempo is all over the place. He hasn't got the patience nor the discipline to control the midfield. I get really nervous when he receives the ball with his back behind the goal because he's not aware enough to be able to detect movement.

I think Lucas' absence is not the biggest problem..I still think the 2 on the wings need to track back a lot to help out the defence..all about organization as a team when defending..without help the full backs are vulnerable to being outnumbered on the flanks..

I'm starting to think that it is. Without Lucas, our defense seems to second guess itself and we seem very exposed during counter attack. Notice how wide the gap between our defence and midfield ? I think this is due to players like Gerrard and Allen not used to playing as DM. Gerrard is too attack minded and Allen, despite his impressive display, does not like to get into aerial duels - he even messed up a straight forward header today.

Bad enough we have to break through the great wall of china just to score a goal, our mistakes at the back is just mystifying. They are not great players and yet they can easily score. Right positioning, right movement. They make it look simple while our attack make it look like cracking a rocket science formula.

Lol, can fault Allen, he is too short. He is only 5'6 or something, it is not expected of him to win aerial duels. He is doing a commendable job given that he is so small. But i get what youre saying. we are short of options at the moment. The transfer failure is biting us in the ass already. cry.gif

Yeah, i get your frustration. But Steven Fletcher is quite a great finisher. He scored a lot of headers too last season. He scored against us too for wolves if im not mistaken.

Sahin wasn't utilized at all. I thought at some point during second half, BR was going to sub Gerrard with Sahin.

Gerrard's performance has been abysmal and he is still getting automatic start.

Is it because there's no one else fits to be a captain?

Correct man, his height handicaps him when he plays as a DM. Other teams will notice this and will try to take advantage of that.

Valid point. Yes we are indeed exposed on the counter attack. Although Allen is not used to playing as a DM, I think he can adapt. He reads the game well enough. Maybe Gerrard needs to adapt better at his role as a CM. Perhaps, he needs to cut down his forays forward to not leave us vulnerable to the counter attack..or a positional switch when he does go forward, maybe? A flaw in BR's formation? hmm.gif

Suggested us to sign Fletcher and some of us actually bashed me for that. "We dont want sign someone from relegation team again. We want big name" They said...

Ended up Fletcher just scored 3 in his 2 games.

It always happens when they joined Liverpool. They start to play good for other teams, and then when they come here, they all will be like Morientes. Disappointing.

Worst start to a season for over half a century.

Things are not looking good for BR.

Well there's a reason why BR likes wingers, because during defense they have the pace to track back, and in offense they literally either pass and move to drag the defense, or pull it so high that even the team's defenders will play a high-line.

Very, very obvious that without Lucas, our defense has nobody to marshal them.

I think LFC needs to start predicting where and how Gerrard moves. its' like we're playing false nine with Gerrard as a striker in a midfielder's position, whereas our striker is still a striker but won't track back.

We still haven't gelled as a team. I wonder what needs to be done? A quarantine camp? Every time we want to train together somebody gets called up for international duty.

We lost two of our best players in the decade; Kuyt and Alonso. Their hard works are what is missing in our team right now. Gerrard still looked very lost. Perhaps he's never recovered since Rafa, Alonso and Torres left. It looks like the same cycle all over again. Let's hope the manager stay this time. If things are not going well after a few more games, I suggest recall Rafa and let him co manage with BR. Hey we did it before right?

The positive is, Sterling looks like a young Messi. What a beast play from him.
