erm, compared to

Slyphy- slyphy is very smooth and very powerful at low speed, not so powerful on mid to high rev. ( ok, maybe its an uncle car)

insaplah- not powerful at low speed, unless you try to rev till 6krpm at 1st, 2nd gear. but the power is very very good at 3rd/4th gear onwards. 100kmh-160kmh is without hesitation. ( can give more detail because tested this back to back ). ok, i understand thats the advantage of 2.0 NA engine.

forte 2.0- feels good from low to high speed, the 6speed gearbox is good when paired with the powerful 2.0 engine.

the CVT on pravia CFE is lack of manual feeling at 3rd onwards, it didnt feel like its on manual mode, because there is no feeling at higher rev ( like when you are over rev, the car will like pull pull, and reminds you to upshift).

it actually feels....wooden. if u ask me, i would say, the best way to drive this car, is leave it at S mode ( which will be 1000rpm higher, as what SA told me).

my experience is definitely different from paultan and topgear, because i'm concentrate solely on the performance, and what the petrol head thinks.

all in all, i would say, to really compare this pravia ( well 114a is in effect) , i would say, one should also try insaplah 1.8 or even CVT , to give a fair comparison ( since its in the same showroom, not so convenient to ask anyone to drive another 30 mins to kia/honda/toyota showroom to try another car, right? )

its not to belittle this car, but just stating my view.

if u drive PREVE S mode.. no sluggish at all.. in fact you scared to drive cos it is too responsive n powderful
means the sluggishness not due to engine or transmission.. but the mapping and setting of ECU itself

Than you, Nissan currently have the best CVT in the market. Unlike other CVT in the market that use steel belt, Nissan use toroidal CVT which can withstand higher torque.

I believe if Proton use manual or conventional torque converter automatic transmission Proton can improve Campro CFE performance because currently proton is limiting Campro CFE torque number because of Punch VT-3 torque is limited to 220 Nm. Proton leave 15 Nm threshold to prolong the transmission lifespan

As someone who is interested in cars, today i finally get to test drive this potong pravia .

put aside the interior design and everything, will discuss purely on the test drive experience.

Findings:
1. a lot of teh tarik hooks, thumbup.gif
2. big boot space thumbup.gif
3. rear sear design could be better, not comfy ( compared to potong insaplah, which is conveniently available in the same showroom )
4. handbrake design could be better.
5. arm rest height thumbup.gif way better than potong insaplah.

Test drive
1. 1st and 2nd gear ratio makes the car lures fast.
2. 3rd 4th 5th gear is....slow. very slow. i feel like changing it makes the car roar, but do not feel any accerelation. ( yes, i did check the speedometer, saturday 9am morning, highway is clear, no car, so i can speed and look at the meter without fear)
3. at below 60km/h, the cvt noise is crazy. omg..this is the biggest problem, way way bigger than anything. so fcking noisy. the turbo noise is nothing compared to this.
4. when wanna change lane, the car is powerless at 80kmh. i feel very very not confident to cut out and accelerate. in short, acceleration at 80kmh can be better.
5. tried 80 to 140 on an empty road. well, i have better experience in 1.6 and 2.0 forte, 308thp, and 1.8/2.0civic. in short, even 1.6forte feels more power. is that cvt that bad?
6. handling, tried do some funny cornering. not bad, but, i did the similar kind of cornering with honda insight, pretty similar. and those are not funny stunt we do daily. so, no clear advantage even for proton handling.
7. this car will make rear passenger car sick. the tuning might be for sporty handling, but the power doesnt match, so i would prefer the tuning they done to insaplah( which i tested back to back). the insaplah is way faster, way better, and rear passenger will not car sick when i do fast driving. for pravia, normal driving already causes car sick....hmmm.

tldr version : rm72999 i would recommend my frens cars below
1. if u wan fast and furious, dont care about fc, just have this budget, can take a look at 1.6 forte low spec. and the car is very quiet compared to pravia.
2. family man, can consider vios, which is cheap to run, faster in city run(due to lower weight, aka milotin)
3. really a petrolhead, 1.8 manual inspira. will eat this car, anywhere, anytime, and make your rear passenger comfy when u smoking ppl/pravia on the road.
4. buy pravia, when u just to buy a proton at this budget, with all the bells and whistles and 4 airbags. dont think too much on performance. and invest in sound proof.

competitior.
1. any two liter car : pravia is no match from 80kmh onwards. below 80 need to drag in real life in order to know.
2. city vios : those car has better power to weight ratio and returns better FC. similar priced vios with lower interest rate,
3. 308thp: a very good car with a very good engine. pravia cant even smell smoke. tested 190 on kesas in 308thp for test drive. pravia i hunt gears to try to push it beyond140 in auto, S, manual mode.

this is my finding.

if u have rm72999, must buy a top spec car with good bang for buck, pravia it is. but, also can take a look at my comment and judge which type of buyer you are.

inbe4 pravia test drive car spoilt, not using latest ecu and so on.
Engine
1.6 CFE is to fix the disadvantages on 1.6 campro. but to say its a match to 2.0NA....i dont think so.

kindly go to any peugeot showroom to test 1.6 turbo prince engine, that is a 1.6 turbo done right. ( and the salesman would love to let you try, because they are pretty sure it will seal the deal )

Alert:
CVT whines, very loud ( at least on the test drive car, and also, maybe the car is relatively quiet, so it makes the whine very very apparent.)

Bro, Proton is suppose to luanch Preve in Australia this month, you write review like that how are those Assie dare to buy Preve? BTW all the PROFESSIONAL car reviewers never write anything close to what you write, ALL of them said PREVE can reach top speed 200km/h easily and pride of continental standard

if PREVE is flop in Australia it will flop in M'sia too

hmm, even if compared with forte 1.6, the forte has more feeling in acceleration.

and when i checked the speedometer, i really struggle to push it. i hunt gear like crazy, and it will auto upshift even in manual mode, and its not very high rpm( i think 5xxx rpm)

in other words, even 1.6 forte are more willing to go up higher speed. ( but i must say, the gearbox in forte 1.6 6 speed is not bad)
*
not sure about 1.6 forte coz didnt drive it, but the cvt 2.0 inspira also lack feel of speed. even myvi feels powderfol than inspira in term of pulling feel (but actually inspirar is faster acceleration). i guess its just cvt characteristics.

other than the acceleration, cvt sound, engine power, your other review is the same experience as me.

the only real competitor for preve is forte, city, inspira with preve win the best bang of buck, but lacking prestige and slight quality drawback.
