Well, a gym membership and some protein powder will fix it up pretty quick. As long as you aren't a sotong it'll be ok lorh.

Yes, you'll be at a disadvantage if you don't have the body for field work. Usually the boss will chose the fit one for field work and the less fit one to duduk opis.

Aiyoyo...must do alot of work out and go on protein diet alrd during uni life...same life goes to the geologist too? or only applies to engineers?

OK LOL...cos i was being told my uncles and seniors tht to be in O & G, must have Lin Dan's muscles and Muhammad Ali's strength biggrin.gif that's how i come to doubt about it... But guess being a rigger is a tough job too nevertheless.

Morning lads,

A little background info about myself: I have been working for almost 3 years now in a shipping company. Always wanted to enter OnG industry but the opportunity presented itself in awkward situation, hence i passed it.

Anyway, last week i received an offer in a little known oil & gas company. Naturally, I was pleased. But the snag comes when they offered me the position of Trainee Engineer, citing my lack of experience in their field.

That means I would have to take a pay cut (and my pay getting reset back to the level it was when I first started working), and with my experience of 3 years not reflecting on my salary. Should I be expecting more? Or is this the maximum offer I can get, even elsewhere? And yes, i have submitted my resume to several other company in the oil & gas field but let's just say the respond has been lukewarm so far.

Thanks & Regards

keep fit for your own good.
after all you work 12 hours a day and 7 days a week.
thats if ure lucky and with client side.

I'm on the PMT side. I work til past midnight (sometimes til 3am) and up again at 530 to make it for the 6am toolbox meeting. Have power naps at lunchtime. Oh, and as part of the PMT, not entitled to OT pay. My last trip was 47 days offshore living like that.

Dont equate body building with keeping fit.
Skipping rope is cheap, easy to bring along and gives a good cardio workout.
No gym? do dips using chairs. Pull up bar? get the scaffolders to make one. haha

LOL... how nice if we can... thought rig companies should make platform more interesting ie. add some pool table rooms, KTV rooms lol...at least provide some avenue for workers to de-stress.

at least better than nothing... some if the riggers sacrificed a lot to work on rig, imagine months without thier GFs/ WIfe and kids.. But to get $, of course need to sacrifice to some extend... There's no free lunch in this world. Maybe that explains why the take up rate of PE/ Offshore oil riggers are still pretty low atm compared to other fields haha.

MPT or non-MPT earn more in operation field? Is it acceptable in the field for a fresh graduate degree-holder applying for a non-MPT position?

PMT = Project Management Team
MPT = if same with PMT, Management Project team
non-MPT position = ?

btw, some drilling rigs allow you to fishing, depends on your Drilling Supervisors....but not on the mercury area...
