QUOTE(nite_eif @ Jan 30 2013, 12:03 PM) hehe from the statement implies that HSE from non technical background is common then.. my place, SHE / HSE develop the safe working procedure, work permit, LPO, LTI, etc. sometimes the requirement is too stringent than normal NIOSH / OSHA which require SOC approval for deviation. but you can sit down and discuss with them as long as "Work Safe" is our intention. Sometimes they do not understand site and work condition compare those who directly engage with it mind to elaborate your experience with them.. |

QUOTE(eyelash @ Feb 6 2013, 10:54 PM) Vicki, since you have a degree, I'm a bit hesitant about this. Most of the technicians in Exxon, they are Diploma holders. So since you have a degree, I guess your starting salary will be different. Slightly higher, I guess. But as a technician, you are considered as Non-MPT, normal engineers are called MPT. Non MPT can claim overtime, but starting salary for a normal engineering hire in ExxonMobil is higher than the Production Technician you mentioned. And starting salary for an engineer in Exxon is 4.5k. a good place to learn, training, and good networking worldwide. plus a lot of stringent procedures. In terms of how far can you go, if you do exceptionally well, you can become a production supervisor, then afterwards platform supervisor. If you are REALLY good, you can climb up the ladder and become an Asset Manager. But, this is VERY RARE. So far, I only know one person who made it to Asset manager. The rest, usually retire as platform supervisor. Production supervisor position is MPT, by the way. Meanwhile engineers in ExxonMobil, they are different. They can rise up to CEO level, just in the case of the current Exxon's CEO, Rex Tillerson. But of courselah, you'll hardly get any Malaysians as CEO but my point here is to give a perspective in terms of how far you can go as a technician and as an engineer in Exxon. What I'm afraid of is, you'll get frustrated when you start comparing with your fellow engineering peers later. So think hard. But if you are willing to go through this hard route, by all means do accept if you are offered. Exxon may be a place of hell but it's a really good starting ground. And I mean it. Exxon trains its people well. When they say they'll bond you, it means you cannot quit the company within that 5 years. After 5 years, if you wish to leave you may. Or else, you'll stay with the company until you retire lah. Sincerely from a fellow Exxonite. (^__^) This post has been edited by nash9701: Feb 9 2013, 02:55 PM |

QUOTE(dream_pursuer @ Feb 26 2013, 02:14 AM) Salam and hello to all, My bro-in-law have degree in Mechanical from UTM, but he pursue his career in inspection by getting all those certificate and start from below, meaning that currently he's on inspection line, if I'm not mistaken, later on (around 2008 perhaps) he take some course at UK with his own money, then he applied for offshore (Saipem). Currently he's working contract with Saipem, on barge, do inspection on subsea pipeline (depend on work location). He's not interested with executive position (engineer). His pay is good. My place, we do have inspector from SGS, Testex etc., .Our own inspector cannot manage all works, they need these inspectors to carry out works and prepare reports, mostly site works. Some experience, take API certs which they can cover other inspection work rather than welding itself (pipeline, pigging, vessel etc.), do X-ray, gamma-ray etc. Those experience pay is high as they are mostly contract basis.I'm a recent graduate in mech eng from local university, with strong interest in welding and materials engineering, considering that my final year project involved with it. Besides, I also have welding inspection certs, CSWIP 3.0 and TWI Welding Inspector (both certs were sponsored by mu uni). 1. Before this (during my uni days), i've heard that welding is quite in demand in ONG industry but as I've gone through this thread, there's very few post that suggest that. Does welding really in demand in ONG? Or what i heard before is no more than a myth? 2. Anyway, since i've already have those certs, I think I'll go for welding n inspection line so that i'll stand out from other candidates. 3. If i'm going to kick start my career in the inspection line, is it worth? cause i'm afraid it is a niche segment in ONG career path. And how i'm going to do that? I mean i've heard people said that you have to be an inspector first before ugrading urself to become an inspection engineer. Is it true? Any comments?? Sorry for the long post.. thanks anyway Saya budak baru belajar..... and now I'm really confuse..... (^__^) This post has been edited by nash9701: Feb 27 2013, 12:24 AM |

QUOTE(SmokerBamboo @ Mar 8 2013, 07:39 PM) Oh OK. I will check back the threads. is your friend working in US? Malaysia that's the rate. Does not matter whether you are Master. I have friend Master in chemical engineering from Cambridge, but then working in Malaysia, just follow the Malaysia standard rate. All these are in RM right? I heard from one of my friends who studied in US. He got a job offer which pays him USD 7k per month (coz he's a Master student. If degree student, USD 5k). Then he had to come back coz he's bonded scholar. His current salary is 5 times lower than his previous offer. This made me really wonder why Malaysia pays so low |

QUOTE(SmokerBamboo @ Mar 8 2013, 11:05 PM) True, but I just got the feeling that we're not paid what we're supposed to get. Of coz, many experienced ppl would tell me to stop complaining and go find a job oversea if I want money that much. haha.. But it's just being unfair to those who are bonded. Well, different ppl might have different opinion :S the reason they said Petronas give 5k is because previously there is rumours that PET do not want to bear the insurance, medical cost etc. for their staff. Hence, they want to just compensate it by raising the salary and find your own medical plan etc.. Some company now into that direction (rumours).About the 5k in PETRONAS, I was told by my friends that, basic salary for fresh grads mmg 4k. After 1 year (yes exactly 1 year) you'll get adjustment. Tier 1 will get 5k, T2 get 4.8k and T3 get 4.5k (not really sure about T3 figure). I think the reason is that they wanna standardize the fresh grads salary. After 1 year (after you're not fresh anymore), then only they give you what you supposed to get. Meaning to say, T1 fresh grads supposed to get 5k, but to make it simple, they jz giv every fresh grads 4k in the beginning. (^__^) |

QUOTE(SmokerBamboo @ Mar 8 2013, 11:42 PM) He's a PETRONAS scholar and he studied degree and Master in US. After grad, he got an offer there, monthly salary of USD 7k. When he about to start working, PETRONAS called and told him to come back. Haha.. same like my friend last time, scholar PET in US, then work for Exxon in US, but then PET call him back due to bond and my friend cannot afford to payback the amount, but that almost 6 years back story. now he happy with his family and life(^__^) |

QUOTE(yunodie @ Mar 9 2013, 12:11 AM) Not a rumour anymore. Shell has stopped their Legacy Medical Plan (Unlimited) 3 years ago and replaced it with a 50k cap per year for Hospitalization. Didnt get anything in return. Interest free car loan also stopped and commuting allowance instead is given. Haha, actually I know the Shell things as few of my working colleague just join them. QUOTE(yunodie @ Mar 15 2013, 05:20 PM) There are people who do not know how to appreciate what they have. Working life or life itself is not always to what you want. If you are Muslim, you should know this fact (but most are not). Working is not just a matter of money figures, there so many other things associated. There is person I know reject Schlumberger which offer 5 figures (after graduate) and work with Petronas (even SLB want to pay the bond). It depends. Mindset is important. Nowadays, mindset only OnG can give you good pay, life, etc. is what student at Uni have. World is not just within this OnG industries. Just my two cents (^__^) This post has been edited by nash9701: Mar 15 2013, 09:26 PM |
