Hi lanforex90,
I'm new here, can you tell me what do CARIMIN, OMS and RWNA stand for?

And if you don't mind, how did you applied for those jobs?

For your case, I am quite shocked that those O&G company offer you that amount. Those amounts are too undervalued - at least RM2.2k which is the standard starting salary for degree holder (somemore its engineering!) I think more preferred.

My uncle is in Oil and Gas industry as Operation Supervisor, he said no matter how low the salary is.. just take the offer. If I were you, maybe I will considering the 3rd choice seriously (junior project engineer). Because I think that salary is not for your working salary - but your learning allowance. They considered you as a trainee (like in practical training) and maybe after 3 or 6 months they will raised your salary significantly (then you are working!). Just my two cents.

I am from UTM .. but now graduated already. During my study, there are so many (more than 2 I think) carnival that were heavily sponsored by big O&G companies. We even had a Schlumberger Technology Day - a day dedicated to Schlumberger.

Other than that, for our Career Carnival, usually Platinum and Gold sponsors were from O&G companies.. other companies just dare to sponsor bronze or silver..

2 days ago, high-ranked personnels from Halliburton came here (one of them I think is Drilling Manager Pacific Area) to give 2 hours lecture. Lol I just let those oppportunies slip away so easy..

Hi otaimers,

I am a fresh grad with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from UTM.

Wanting to enter O&G field.

What should I highlight in my resume in order to attract those O&G bosses?

Because I am yet to win any interview calls from them. So far only manufacturing companies. sad.gif

For internship in O&G companies, one of my juniors (a pretty girl) had done her internship in Carigali HESS. It would be a very impressive addition to her resume later on for sure. I don't know how she applied, but one thing I know, she have thick cable in O&G companies. Hehe. In O&G field, I think what you know or how good you are is as essential as who you know.

abgkik, heard that HESS mother company want to buy the Newfield operation here.. seems a golden opportunity to you. biggrin.gif

By the way, last Saturday in The Star, KPOC has 3-page length vacancies, but none are for entry level. sad.gif

abgkik my UTM senior, can you review my resume and then maybe recommending me securing a post in O&G companies? smile.gif

how is that female junior doing so far? in ur opinion, any disadvantages for being a female compared to male?

asking so coz i am a female working at site

I just want to share my experience working with female colleague in engineering field.

I did my internship in a manufacturing company and I have a female colleague working in the same department. During internship, I did ask her many times to go to the field, but she refused all of it. Eventually she said that she has the feeling of being suspicious of the many males there in the field - particularly the technicians and general workers, always having the feeling of the possibility of being abducted, then sexually abused in between the pumps/compressors, lol. I as a genuine male never feel like this, at first I thought she just joking. But later I realized she really meant it.

So starting from that I learn a little bit about females always has the feeling of insecurity in certain conditions. Err do you experience/feel the same as her? Just curious.

But that's in manufacturing line where females generally can be found only in HR/Management departments. I dont know about oil and gas industry.

ooooo ya correct correct..

maybe part of the reason she felt that way because the company itself did not do their job in enforcing/convincing my friend there that the working environment is safe and protected..

we even were not required to wear safety cap inside the field due to "hotness".

another event that I want to share is, during one of the major service of a turbo compressor, a group of contract workers (Indonesian) were assigned to help engineers to service it. Me and my female colleague came to sibuk2 and learn.

Due to her presence, ALL of the contract workers cannot focus on their job. Their hands were doing the job, but their eyes keep looking on her. Seeing this, engineer in charged asked her to leave the vicinity ASAP. She got very sad after that, being chased out.

She is not very beautiful, just okay la... but maybe she is the only female they have ever encountered in their 2 years in a factory.. I don't know.. lol this is diverting from topic. Sorry for hijacking this post. biggrin.gif

Guys tend to be playful a bit and it is probably a way for them to release stress, esp when they are working hard, so no big deal when I get used to it. Once you get to know them, they are like bapa, adik or abang to me.

Practise proactiveness as much as you can (like what you did here). One suggestion from me, you can try consult abe idham from UTP, he has a track record of helping a person securing job in MNC which that person do not have any qualification and experience. Heard that that person does not have even SPM.

Hi everyone. I just want to share some insight from people in 0&G here..

Last week I consulted my uncle who works for Newfield. Among the points that he told me is;

1. Staying in one company for long period is not very good in terms of monetary aspect. He used to work for Fortune 100 Company. During that time he enjoyed around more or less a hundred increment per year. At the early stage of his career, he hesitated to jump company. But when he started to jump companies, he enjoyed more or less a double of his last salary slip.

2. Working in O&G has its disadvantages too. Most people only talk about the challenges, good money that can be received from O&G. He pointed out to me that in O&G, besides the extra pressure (every jobs has its pressure, but sure in O&G you must expect much more), working in this field also expose us to hazards and dangers. For example, in his first two platforms, the production starts to produce along dangerous material such as cyanides and others. He observed that as the production run, the more dangerous the working environment become. At one stage, they were only required to wear protection clothes Level 1, and it increased to Level 2, Level 3 and so on..

He remembered one occasion where he met one of the chemist in his platform. He noticed that he has wall eye (mata juling). The chemist did not even notice that he has it. He claimed that he is normal.. 15 years ago.

and lastly, for fresh graduates like me .. he said that, try your luck with reputable and big companies first as they usually have proper procedures to recruiting. For small and some medium, large companies, they rely heavily on connection - in other words, cables. wink.gif

One of the challenges in o&G is.. securing an interview. Good luck to me. LOL. biggrin.gif
