Hi, does anyone here wrap their check in back packs or just check in like that? I mean those bags that doesn't have any security lock.

I had check in my backpacks a few times and there's no problem so far. Then, on my last trip I saw people fully wrap their back packs before check in. That makes me wonder, is it safe to just check in my backpack without wrappings since it can't be locked? I didn't put in any valuable stuff inside but I check in the bag just for the sake of liquids. I'm just worried if someone putting extra stuffs inside.

I noticed the Bangkok airport did open up my backpack when I travelled there, because there's a sticker 'Security Passed' (or something like that) on my medication when I open it.

If your passport are expired or will be expired soon, do not wait until last minute to renew your passport. Do renew your passport at least 2 or 3 months before you travel.

Some countries do not require Malaysian to do Visa. However, if you are travelling with foreigner friends or family members to the countries where you yourself no need Visa, it does not mean they no need visa also. Warn them to do the Visa.

And, it is better if you can purchase travel insurance for your entire trip.

If you need to use your phone for entertainment purpose on your flight, or if you need to use a PDA, make sure it has "flight mode" or "airplane mode" feature. And, please note that some airlines staffs not even know what is "flight mode" / "airplane mode". This feature will disable all wireless transmission (bluetooth, wifi, etc) of your device, so that you can use the device on the flight. This feature must be enabled before you board the aircraft.

If you need to use laptop on the flight, please ensure all wireless transmittion features (WiFi, bluetooth, etc) are disabled before you board the flight. Do, note that some laptop may automatically enable the wifi feature after reboot even you disabled it before reboot. If your laptop are in this case, and you are using Windows, use Windows device manager to disable your WiFi adapter.

i'm going back to Malaysia from Yangon this month. If i'm not mistaken, the check in baggage limit is 20kg.

i would like to know what are the charges/penalty if it's over 20kg?

By the way, i'm bringing home Dried Prawns and Cashew Nuts. Is it allowable?

This is my first time on a plane.

Please help.

Hi,

I am planning my trip to San Francisco on the coming March/April 2011 and i plans to use my KrisFlyer points to redeem the round trip tickets.

Below shows the points required.

Flight1 : SM
From: Penang
To: San Francisco

Award Type Miles
Round-trip Economy Saver Award Ticket 70000
Round-trip Economy Standard Award Ticket 140000
Round-trip Economy Full Award Ticket 256000

My question here is what are the differences between the 3 categories above? Saver vs Standard vs Dull Award ticket?

Thanks in advance and kindly let me know if this is not the right forum for this.

Air Asia now weight every hand carry luggage that appeared to be heavy and oversize at the LCCT departure gate. So many passengers got refused entry and forced to check-in the hand carry at RM30 per 15kg.

Yes, over the counter medicine is OK to bring on board.

Prescription medicine too. But it's better to bring along a letter from your doctor for this.

Recently, I have 3 flights with AA, and I hand carried my luggage, likewise my parents.  So, 3 of us, 3 flights, if all of us check in our baggages for all 3 flights, it would be RM180(pre-booked) or RM270 (at the airport)!

To avoid the hand carry luggage being weighed, and to use one piece of hand carry, and not exceeding the 7kg limit, this is what we did:
- use the light weight "soft" bag (the "overnight" bag) and not the cabin-sized luggage.  Chances are the AA staff are more likely to weigh the "bigger looking" cabin-sized luggage bag.  Besides, those luggage bag on itself when empty carries some weight (might be +/-1kg).

- do not carry handbag, sling bag, waist pouch etc, but use a small backpack(I keep my waist pouch in the backpack).  Some of the "heavy weight" small items can be put into the backpack, thus lighten the hand carry luggage.  (I carried 1kg of dried shrimp in my backpack) If carry handbag etc, the backpack might be considered as the second piece of hand carry..  Also, I do not put clothing items in the backpack - this will make it like another hand carry luggage, just in case they check.

I believe that it means:

Save Award - a few of the lowest category tickets
Standard Award - medium category tickets
Full Award - Y class - full fare economy class tickets

These few tickets have different t&c's.

But best for you to ask the CS of MAS before redeeming. Or maybe they do list out the t&c before redemption of tickets.
