Hi everyone,

I'm flying to indo tomorrow and I would just like to know if it's fine for me to bring some 'over the counter' medicine (like panadol, immodium) with, hand carry on board?

*(one friend claim no)

Any comments pls?
*
Yes, over the counter medicine is OK to bring on board.

Prescription medicine too. But it's better to bring along a letter from your doctor for this.

Hi,

I am planning my trip to San Francisco on the coming March/April 2011 and i plans to use my KrisFlyer points to redeem the round trip tickets.

Below shows the points required.

Flight1 :  SM
From: Penang
To: San Francisco

Award Type Miles
Round-trip Economy Saver Award Ticket 70000
Round-trip Economy Standard Award Ticket 140000
Round-trip Economy Full Award Ticket 256000

My question here is what are the differences between the 3 categories above? Saver vs Standard vs Dull Award ticket?

Thanks in advance and kindly let me know if this is not the right forum for this.

I believe that it means:

Save Award - a few of the lowest category tickets
Standard Award - medium category tickets
Full Award - Y class - full fare economy class tickets

These few tickets have different t&c's.

But best for you to ask the CS of MAS before redeeming. Or maybe they do list out the t&c before redemption of tickets.

i email a hotel in phuket for booking, but they reply asking my card number (complete with the three digit number and expiry date). is that normal? if im not mistaken, we cant give out that kinda info...
*
Usually hotels only ask for these cc info.

Card Holder Name
Credit Card No
Expiry Date

They won't need the CVC #.

Hi, I went into UK immigration website to check what are the items prohibited but still confused, especially on what medications/OTC that I can bring along. As I don't like scrambling around looking for pharmacy in foreign countries when I got sick, I prefer to bring my own medications. Are these allowed into France and UK?

Teck Aun pils (for food poisoning)
Minyak Cap Kapak
Activefast/Paracetamol
Actal for gastric
Fybogel (the packaging says made in UK, actually).
Sevensea Cod Liver Oil (supplement that doctor recommended to me as I'm prone to flu, packaging says made in Great Britain).

I had bring all these to Korea and SE Asia countries before without problem.
*
From my experience, all these are fine if it's not in huge quantities.

For Teck Aun pills - not sure coz it's chinese medication. Not sure how the immigration will react to that when they see it.

Wah, bring so much medicine... are you prone to getting sick easily? Poor you!

For flu hor, you can always buy redoxon (vitamin c soluble in water). When you feel like the flu is coming, faster take 1 glass lor!

hi all,
i'm taking a domestic flight with airasia next month. do they allow hand carry sun block, lotion etc on board? cause i didnt buy the check in luggage to save cost...

thanks in advance!
*
As long as it's 100ml and below. Please remember to put in those clear ziplock plastic bag. I think LCCT no longer provide this bag.

I know my question is quite subjective, how you guys estimate how much money to change to the overseas currency? Because over change might cause lost when need to change back to RM
*
Err, I usually estimate like 1k in their currency (EUR1k or GBP1k or USD1k for respective countries). Like JYP, i usually bring Yen100,00. But this is for max 8 days only and inclusive of food, transportation, admissions to attractions. Shopping + accomodation are not included.

QUOTE(stimix @ Jun 12 2011, 12:16 PM)
Yeah really subjective.. Depending on where you go.

Just estimate the food & transport per day there _ how much you willing to spend on souvenmirs & etc and you hv a good idea already

thanks. Maybe I'll consider asking for lomotil from doctor instead for food poisoning. I get sick a lot especially after flights. So these are basically my imust haves when travel. Is redoxon passable for the custom check?
*
Yes redoxon is OTC product. I bring it whenever I travel, even to Aus - super strict but they never said anything.

Need urgent advice. I just bought a nasal spray from Guardian and after open the package just realized it's an aerosol bottle. I need nasal spray because the last time I was on flight, my nose seriously dry and hurt. Can I bring the nasal spray onto plane?
*
Usually when your bag goes through the x-ray machine, confirm the officer will be able to spot it.

However, you can have a doctor's letter to prove that you absolutely need it during the flight. Else, no choice but to put wet tissue and keep wiping your nose OR apply vaseline to nose area.

QUOTE(fraulein @ Jun 26 2011, 12:34 AM)
But the hurt is inside the nose, at the nose bridge area wor.. I need the aerosol nasal spray to pump in sterile water into that area.

Just checked at TSA (US) website and an Australian dept of infras & transportation website . It says aerosol for over-the-counter, personal care and toiletries are allowed in hand-carry if under 100 ml. Just worried whether this 'standard' rules is  made known in LCCT or not.

I'll think I'll gamble. Put it together with my other liquids into zip lock bag. If they notice then I explain, if not ..  whistling.gif
*
Since you need sterile water, how about this?

U know those toner (for skincare) that has spray cap? Or the empty ones from Watson/Guardian?

Not sure how to categorize sterile water but if it's equivalent with boiled water, you can actually fill up the spray bottle with it and it's OK to bring spray bottle of 100ml and below into the flight.

Hye sorry if the topic had been asked before, I'm curious did anyone of us here ever wondered about one more important thing for travelers which is phone+connectivity, which telco do u guys prefer to use or prefer to use for international roaming?
*
I'm also using Celcom. However, whenever I reach a foreign country, first thing i'll do is just get a local sim card so it's easier to get in touch with friends and cheaper too.

QUOTE(yana_adell @ Oct 7 2011, 04:12 PM)
hai,
i need some advice on the travelling
as this will be the first time for us travel out from country
i m not so clear abt the luggage & the way to settle in airport, really blur now.. huhu

What is the size & weight for the luggage if using AirAsia.
Can i bring lotsa dry food like maggi, nescafe / tea
How abt the toiletries.. I heard the max is 100ml per item
(not so clear is it only for carry bag/ we can bring more in big luggage)
And what to do in airport, need help here =(
*
Do make use of Air Asia's website 'search' box. All can be found at their website.

1) Cabin Baggage
QUOTE
8.6

Unchecked Baggage: Passengers (except infants) are allowed two (2) items of baggage to be carried on board.  The items of baggage may be a combination of any two of the following: cabin bag or a laptop bag or a handbag.  The cabin bag shall not exceed the dimensions of 56cm X 36cm X 23cm and must not weigh more than 7kg. Such baggage must fit under the seat in front of you or in an enclosed storage compartment in the cabin. Items determined by us to be of excessive weight or size or of an offensive nature will not be permitted on board.

Subject to the prevalent applicable local laws and regulations passengers may take liquids on board in their hand luggage provided they meet the following restrictions:

The liquid is in a container with a maximum volume of 100ml
That all liquid containers meeting the maximum volume of 100ml each can be fitted comfortably into a transparent, re-sealable 1 litre plastic bag
The plastic bag should be presented separately at security. You may be required to dispose of liquids which do not meet the above requirements.

2) Check In Luggage

- Depends if you have bought 15kg, etc. Size does not matter as long as you do not exceed the weight purchased. Else need to top it up at the airport for a higher fee.

3) Yes you can bring dry food out of Malaysia but the question is - will the country that you are entering are allowing you to do so. Why need to bring all those when you can buy it where you are at?

4) Toiletries - refer no 1).
- It means that total must not exceed 1litre. That also means you can only bring 10 different liquid bottles of 100ml each.

5) What to do in Airport?
- WTH?!?!?! Eat, sit, go online (if got free wifi), go toilet, check out duty free shop.

(This charge oni for hand luggage aite that we bring together in cabin?)

3) Yes you can bring dry food out of Malaysia but the question is - will the country that you are entering are allowing you to do so. Why need to bring all those when you can buy it where you are at?
(Easier to find HALAL food?M goin to phuket)

4) Toiletries - refer no 1).
- It means that total must not exceed 1litre. That also means you can only bring 10 different liquid bottles of 100ml each.
(This charge oni for hand luggage aite that we bring together in cabin?
How if i put all them in big luggage, can i bring more then?)

5) What to do in Airport?
- WTH?!?!?! Eat, sit, go online (if got free wifi), go toilet, check out duty free shop.
(What i mean is, this is my 1st time so i dunno the procedure, what to do once i get there, shud i go to counter 1st change itinerary for ticket, then which way to go, & others till i getting on the plane, i really dunno all this. Thats y ask here. I never travel out from country before.)
*
1) Cabin Luggage = Luggage that you can take into the cabin
Check In Luggage = Luggage that you check in

3) Should be able to find but your food items MIGHT get rejected if the country does not allow food products in their country.

4) This is for cabin luggage. For Check In Luggage - you want to bring 1 tonne also can.

5) Change itinerary for?
- if u have checked in via web, go straight to baggage drop counter. If not, head towards check in counter to check in.
- Check your ticket what time you are supposed to be at the gate area. If it's time, head towards the immigration and get your passport scanned/stamped.
- Wait at the gate until they call you for boarding.
- There are usually cafes and duty free shops at the gate area if you want to eat/shop for something.

Did you try measuring your backpack? If your backpack does not fit into that measurement, confirm need to check in.

i got one question. can we reissue a part of ticket that we have not used 3 years ago. i know there is fee involved but just want to know whether is it possible or not.

e.g. Sydney-KL-Paris (to/fro), i'm not utilise the route of KL return to Sydney (consider no show as well because the date of flight already printed out in e-ticket)
*
So long already! Definatley cannot reissue. From what I know, usually you have got to get it reissued to another date prior to the actual travelling date that's stated on the ticket.

I travel frequently KL/Kota Kinabalu/KL and does not have problem with liquid. Shampoo, toothpaste, mineral water, face cream or whatsoever. But this is with MAS. Not sure if AA apply the same rules.
*
Thanks for clarification for MAS.

For AA, liquid is permissable IF it is in 100ml bottle/tube/tub. Maximum 10 bottles/tube/tub only per sealable plastic bag.

However, sometimes if the items are small, they won't really bother.

AA also allow you to bring in bottles of water sold at the Boarding Gate area.

Even for dosmetic flight??

Well, i'm not sure about big bottles but i always follow the rules of 100ml and below. Coz I dun wan to risk the full size bottles to be thrown away later if i didn't follow the rules.

But yes, 100ml is allowed for domestic flights.

Also, I don't remember for domestic flights if there is any shops selling drinks or whatever, but last time I did it and it went through.

I want to have a trip for half a month next month from LA to Singapore. It's a big trip for me , long distance and long distance for me.So I want to know what should I taken, what is the most important that should be paid attention?
*
Well, common sense wise, you should take whatever you use on a daily basis at home.

clothes
skincare
makeup (if you are a girl)
haircare

Please remember that SG is a tropical country so you'd only need summer clothings. I guess maybe a jumper is necessary for when you are at the airport/plane where the air conditioning is a bit chilly.

Make sure to ask the accommodation that you are staying at provides towels or not. Else you'll be forced to buy one when you reached SG.

Other than that, you're good to go.

One more thing, make sure the liquids that you bring onboard is all 100ml bottles. Max is only 10 bottles in a seal-able clear plastic bag.

Have a great trip!!
