sifus, can help me setting up for bitfenix prodigy? budget around 2k++ with lcd. what mobo shud i use? and HD7850 shud be included.
thanks!
*
to be honest, if ur budget rm2k++ is around rm2k u talking about, it's kinda impossible to have such build with ur required spec, unless u want amd apu , maybe it's possible

considering u want an intel rig,

asus p8h77-i rm399 (the cheapest 1155 itx i can find, maybe there is others, i can't find)
sapphire hd 7850 rm730
bitfenix prodidy rm269
monitor rm350+/-

total rm1748 just for these 4 items in the build

*
Very limited choices of mobo , also more expensive compare to similar features to other mobo , only one pcie slot , very limited upgrade potential . If u look at the size of the prodigy , it's not that small compare to other itx casing , it's more like a m-atx casing like silverstone tj08-e

QUOTE(Hitman190 @ Sep 6 2012, 04:35 AM)
Guys I need some help here, I have not played a PC Game in 10 years (console gaming took over biggrin.gif) but now I want to get back into the gaming PC saddle and just looking at the things that are being sold makes me crosseyed.

The first thing I want to know is there a huge and critical difference between the Core i5 2500k 3.3Ghz  and the Core i7 2600k 3.3Ghz? My primary purpose for this rig is gaming and followed by your standard web surfing ie: streaming video and what not.

Second of all I want to get the GTX 680 for graphics and the Maximus V Formula for the motherboard, are these wise choices to make? I have saved up cash for a while so my budget can be considered high end. As for the case I do not think I will make due with some lower priced models and for the fan I hope to use the Cooler master TPC 812 and for the power supply I hope to use the Builder Series CX500 from Corsair.
Know that I have very little idea of this and most of this build was gathered from the reading of magazines and price lists though I have put in some effort by looking at hours of videos at each of the components. My question is that will this build work and is it too extreme? If so what components would you change in order to save money?

Thanks in advance, I apologize if I sound...noob like but I am not joking about being away from PC Gaming for 10 years so I am very rusty at this.  notworthy.gif
*
I agree with what alfsaw said , since it's 10years off the pc world , u may consider this

Intel core i5 3450 rm564
MSI h77m-g43 rm319
Kingston value 4gb x2 rm124
MSI gtx 670 power edition oc rm1439
Intel 330 120gb rm319
WD blue 1tb rm249
Asus DVD-rw rm60
Corsair cx500 rm219
Silverstone tj08-e rm349
Dell u2313hm rm559

Assume u build this rig just for gaming , an i5 will do , the 670 pe is cheaper compare to 680 but with its factory overclocked , the performance is on par with 680 , and it can overcome 680 when overclock higher , I also include an SSD , nowadays the prices are very affordable and it's nice to use , u will know what I mean if u google SSD vs HDD , so u can use it for OS , softwares and games , storage use HDD , I pick a sleek small form factor casing , it also has good cable management , good air flow and also good quality . They are all my opinion , u can always pick the items u like u wish . smile.gif

just curious here.. biggrin.gif
is Silverstone tj08-e  the best small form factor casing?
how good this casing compared to bitfenix prodigy?  smile.gif
*
haha, i had both casing last time, here's what i think of them

prodigy
-itx board casing in m-atx dimension, good quality, good air flow, good cable management, it has many rooms for big heatsink, many hdd, water cooling potential but due to its itx board, the future upgrade is very limited, those board only has one pci-e lane

tj08-e
-m-atx board casing, good quality, good air flow, good cable management, sleek, still have the potential for water cool, detectable mobo tray for easy installation, inverted atx design, m-atx board has 4 pci lane so u can do sli/cfx or at least put a dedicated sound card/wifi card is using single gpu

Yeah as I said my budget is one that has some headroom because I haven't dedicated my cash to my PC in 10 years so I had plenty of time for cash XD.

I am getting the full rig but I had to make sacrifices so that I could throw in my weight else where for example for my casing and my monitor I do not think I will go beyond mid range for both of them. I also will do away with speakers and get some decent headphones.

For the PSU I do not think I will OC it because I am still very new at this and I am quite scared to do so and the same thing goes for SLI. I will get a midrange PSU because I heard a good PSU is essential.

Thanks a lot dude, I will seriously take your advice on this.  Yeah the only reason why I wanted the 680 was because I fell into the marketing trap....NEWEST GFX CARD DUDEEEE!!  laugh.gif  and I want it to have some sense of it being future proof because 10 years ago when I bought my HP rig the guy promised me that BOSS CAN PLAY ALL GAMES but in the end gaming for me lasted for about a year and a half because the GFX card on that rig was pretty poor and I could not afford a decent card back then.
You guys are freaking awesome for helping out a noob like me and now that I love you both XD  notworthy.gif you guys have saved me thousands of ringgit on this....will update you guys on my progress.

and once again I thank you...seriously both of you are legends.
*
alright i get ur point for picking the 680 brows.gif

u may consider either one of the below
leadtek gtx 680 2gb rm1499 (lingloong @ garage sales) - cheapest reference 680
msi gtx 680 lightning rm1999 (lingloong @ garage sales) - the fastest 680 available local

actually there's another great deal for for leadtek 680 4gb but need to bundle with psu, those psu that higher than ur requirement, u may not need those power, and some of those psu prices are marked up compare to other sellers, u may take a look here

if u getting the 670, psu can simply pick a 500w example fsp hexa 500w rm149 or stick to the seasonic if u prefer, u can get corsair 400r in forum sellers at rm299 only smile.gif

oh ya and for photo editing, an i5 is enough, can consider intel core i5 3450 rm564 add another ssd intel 330 120gb rm319 smile.gif

thanks for the reply..may I know what's the difference between the model I selected,Asus P8H77-M LE and msi h77ma-g43? don't really notice the different.

as work PSU I would try to stick to 600W as I plan to throw in some minor things inside (e.g. few HDD and fans). though it do not consume much, better to be safe than sorry. plan to use it for 5years...

as for GC, will think about it..just worry about future prove... rclxub.gif
*
the msi, asus and giga same features, for my preference, i will only choose asus/msi or asrock (for short term) , never take giga. reason is

asus - easy to get stock, almost every shop is selling , service center also easy to locate , sometime may take up to 1 month for warranty replacement but at least they get the job done, no question asked

msi - always solid looks, also easy to get stock, never experience with their after sales service, perhaps the quality is good?

asrock - good quality, price to performance ratio, not every shop selling but still able to get, heard others said the service is confusing coz always change distributor, but still get the job done without hassle

giga - looks bad to me, the blue color board, fussy service , ask a lot questions and always blame customers fault, try to avoid as many as possible warranty cases
