Guys I need some help here, I have not played a PC Game in 10 years (console gaming took over

) but now I want to get back into the gaming PC saddle and just looking at the things that are being sold makes me crosseyed.
The first thing I want to know i
s there a huge and critical difference between the Core i5 2500k 3.3Ghz and the Core i7 2600k 3.3Ghz? My primary purpose for this rig is gaming and followed by your standard web surfing ie: streaming video and what not.
Second of all I want to get the
GTX 680 for graphics and the
Maximus V Formula for the motherboard, are these wise choices to make? I have saved up cash for a while so my budget can be considered high end. As for the case I do not think I will make due with some lower priced models and for the fan I hope to use the
Cooler master TPC 812 and for the power supply I hope to use the
Builder Series CX500 from Corsair.
Know that I have very little idea of this and most of this build was gathered from the reading of magazines and price lists though I have put in some effort by looking at hours of videos at each of the components. My question is that will this build work and is it too extreme? If so what components would you change in order to save money?
Thanks in advance, I apologize if I sound...noob like but I am not joking about being away from PC Gaming for 10 years so I am very rusty at this.

I agree with what alfsaw said , since it's 10years off the pc world , u may consider this
Intel core i5 3450 rm564
MSI h77m-g43 rm319
Kingston value 4gb x2 rm124
MSI gtx 670 power edition oc rm1439
Intel 330 120gb rm319
WD blue 1tb rm249
Asus DVD-rw rm60
Corsair cx500 rm219
Silverstone tj08-e rm349
Dell u2313hm rm559
Assume u build this rig just for gaming , an i5 will do , the 670 pe is cheaper compare to 680 but with its factory overclocked , the performance is on par with 680 , and it can overcome 680 when overclock higher , I also include an SSD , nowadays the prices are very affordable and it's nice to use , u will know what I mean if u google SSD vs HDD , so u can use it for OS , softwares and games , storage use HDD , I pick a sleek small form factor casing , it also has good cable management , good air flow and also good quality . They are all my opinion , u can always pick the items u like u wish .
