hi guys, I have a very weird situation here.

I went for the first interview and i got a call 4 days later saying that they would like to call me for the second interview in Miri. She told me the date to book the plane ticket, the time of SRD and the briefing. A week later, the same lady called me and asked me if i got the conformation email and i said no. She told me i have to wait for the mail before i can go for SRD and she will contact me soon to confirm. I said ok. Then a week later, i get a call from Miri saying that they have checked with Shell KL and i did not clear the first level of interview, therefore i am not invited. 2 hours later the email saying that i did not make it arrived.

It seemed to be very weird to me. I don't think Shell can make such a mistake by informing the wrong person right?

Anyone been in similar position or have any advise about this situation?

Shell R&D facility start-up soon

It invests RM526mil in gas-to-liquid projects in Bintulu plant

BINTULU: The Shell group, which has invested over US$150mil (RM526.3mil) since 2006 in two gas-to-liquids (GTL) research and development (R&D) demonstration projects at its plant in Bintulu, aims to commission and start up the facilities this quarter.

Shell Malaysia Gas & Power vice president d*** Benschop said the projects would further develop the Bintulu plant, Shell MDS (M) Sdn Bhd, as an R&D centre for GTL technology for the group.

“The two key R&D projects underpin Shell’s commitment to GTL technology and sustained long-term presence in the country with our continued investment,” he said at the launch of the projects on Friday.

The two projects are an enhanced Shell gasification process for GTL to increase the efficiency of the process through optimised energy integration and the heavy paraffin synthesis demonstration project, a pilot scale facility that could help enhance the performance of Shell’s proprietary GTL catalyst through more efficient and effective conversion of feed gas.

To-date, some 1.4 million manhours have been spent on the projects with zero lost time through injury incidents.

Shell Global Solutions International gasification and synthesis technology development manager H.P. Calis said Shell group’s annual R&D expenditure totalled about US$1.2bil last year, the highest among oil and gas majors.

The investments are evidenced by the number of patent filings by Shell, which is said to be more than 50% higher than the average of its peers. The group has a published patent filing track record of 30,000 patents filed to-date.

Going forward, Benschop said Shell MDS would focus on expanding its product range.

“We already have an enormous amount of investments in the two projects. Capital expenditure at the Bintulu plant will mainly be to expand product range and maintenance and upgrading works rather than capacity building,” he said.

On Shell MDS’ financial performance, Benschop hopes to beat last year’s revenue of over RM1bil this year on higher oil price and demand for better value products. Revenue figures were better in the first nine months of the year versus the same period last year, he said

Shell MDS has customers in 46 countries worldwide. About 80% to 90% of revenue came from overseas last year. Its other shareholders include Mitsubishi Corp, Petroliam Nasional Bhd and the Sarawak state government.

Since 1993, about US$1bil (RM3.5bil) has been spent on the plant sited on 40.5ha in Bintulu. It has a production capacity of 14,700 barrels of liquid products and waxes per day and about 360 employees.

Vista on an old laptop is painful my friend. Stability is not an issue, it's performance that's lacking. Heck even people with dual core laptops and 2GB memory sometimes have issues that I can't decipher. I don't see why you're looking forward to using it biggrin.gif I wish they'd just stuck with XP sometimes. Oh ETA sometime in 2009.

silverwave, in my experience at least they want to see how you analyze the situation/topic given. Think global was one advice that was given to me. If you're given a situation to analyze you'd want to think from your point of view, the company's, the customer, the general public, the media, your supporters, your detractors, etc.

The interview was hard but I thoroughly enjoyed it biggrin.gif

I don't think they hire everyday.

Of the many SRD they have, they will analyse the candidates.
Not many are hired.
But annually, they hire a few hundred.
Succession planning mar.

In my experience, having someone in Shell refer you will help you from being weeded out automatically by the system. However you will still have to go through the proper interview channels and you will still have to pass the interviews. Shell has a nice employee referral program so if the position you're applying for is in the list then your friend will get the US$1800 bonus or however much the referral program pays now.

However your friend is in HR so there are strict rules against HR and management referring anyone for a job (conflict of interest). Shell is very strict in this so if I were in the HR position I don't want to be involved. There are other less risky ways of getting into Shell biggrin.gif Good luck!

I don't know about accounting but I've known colleagues who were certified for CISSP, PMP, Prince2 etc. So they do sponsor certifications in general.
