There's only two possibility for the motor to burn like that.

1) The motor in the fans runs too hot overnight.
2) The heatsink manufacturer uses al-cheapo motor for the fan.

My 2D & 3D is also the same, plus, i'm on vista [you know in vista ultimate with all those aero, the graphic card always process something. laugh.gif ]
I'm using an Evercool 92MM fan too, the fan runs at 1800RPm [pretty slow for a 92MM fan, plus, it's silent, very the silent smile.gif]

Owh, by the way, i'm using Arctic Cooling MX-1 for the thermal paste. smile.gif

I'm going to take out the HR-03 Plus and test it on my 8800GTS 640MB afterwards, to check the core temp on idle & on load.
Don't have much money to buy two HR-03 Plus for both of my 8800GTX & 8800GTS. Can only afford one HR-03 Plus and as you already know, it's sitting nicely on the 8800GTX.
You know the price of the HR-03 Plus, it's damn expensive. sweat.gif

Hey we're using the same cheapo fan laugh.gif I was actually looking for something better but apparently, there's only evercool to choose from cry.gif

Yeah, Im using MX-1 too. Got mine for RM25 yesterday. I think probably I didnt apply enough MX-1 on the core surface. I just put abit on it and slap on the HR-03. If I were to apply evenly all over the surface, I think I'll finish the whole tube for this alone sweat.gif

Also, my HR03 isnt installed properly. One of the thumb screw actually broke into 2 while I was bolting it to secure the hsf sweat.gif I'm still puzzled how this could happen, and I'm currently looking for a similar-sized screw for replacement. Meanwhile, its secured to the card with only 3 screws laugh.gif This has probably contributed to part of the high temps I guess sweat.gif

*Almost forgotten. Which type of mounting style are you using? Im using the one that wraps around the card. I've read a review that says wrapping the hsf around the card will cause higher temp, while another review says otherwise unsure.gif

You mean you fix the heatsink in the way the fins go to the back of the graphic card or? blink.gif

That should do it.
It's enough i think, since 6600GT is not as hot as 6800 series. smile.gif

Correct me if i'm wrong guys, my knowledge on old nVidia cards is kinda low. blush.gif

I think the reason why my temp is higher that yours, is because of bad air flow. Initially, the fan was blowing onto the card. The fan is sitting right below the round stock intel c2d hsf. I've tried reversing the fan's position, to now suck air away from the card, and blow upwards. True enough, the idle temp dropped to 50C, and at load (running RTHDRIBL) it never go above 55C. Cool huh? rclxms.gif

Anyway, I'll give it two more days for the MX-1 to settle down and see if there's any improvement. I just reapplied it today after discovering there's a lot of air pockets between the gpu and the hsf

Hmm, I think it'll probably take some time to reach here. Btw, I've tried benching at 625/2000. Highest temp is 62C smile.gif

Seems like the motor overheated like sHawTY said before ..

I have helped my friend with his PC 2 months back and it's the same MSI 6600GT graphic card that run into overheat situation and the whole card fried ...

Nayy, the temps is the same while i'm still using PC-G7 for the enclosure for all the hardwares.
Even there's some increase, it's just around 1-2 degrees only. smile.gif
