Hi sifu-sifu after reading thru the info over the net I have several question.
1. The Authorisation letter is for MY / Thai side? (car not under my name)
2. I renew "my" car road tax via myeg not Pos/JPJ, so how?

I might be going to the Thai border end of the month but through Kelantan which is Sg.Golok for a few hours.
Anything interesting to buy there? No hanky panky stuff.
Is liquor cheap?

If you are not planning to drive into Thailand, the duty free area is a great place to park your car

For driving into thailand,
Photocopy of car geran, and also TM2 and TM3 form(get from any thai immigration officer for free, there will be a table there with a sample of how u should fill in the form), and also thai 3rd party insurance
*
To confirm:

So basically you need to bring

1. Photocopy of Car geran
2. Letter of authorization from owner (if you don't own the car)
3. TM2
4. TM4
5. Thai 3rd party insurance

--------------------

Do you need to bring the original car geran?

The letter of authorization from owner must be printed or handwritten will do?

What you can bring is,
1. Car Geran (Original better, if photocopied maybe can maybe no up to Thai Officer discretion)
2. Authorization Letter + Owners IC photocopied (if the car is not under your name).
Printed / Handwritten doesn't matter, need it when you apply for car net.
Both of these document is checked by Thai Officer, they will keep no.2.

What you cannot bring,
1. Thai 3rd party insurance (buy it at changlun town).
2. the form (get from thai immigration office).

Note: The white card you can either buy it from 3rd party insurance provider there (they fill up for you) / get it free from thai immigration office (fill yourself).

Thanks for clearing it up!

For the authorization letter signed by the owner, does it need to be endorsed by police?

Thank you again.

What if I take my own car (car belongs to my name)? Is there any additional procedure?

Or everything is normal except that I don't need any authorization letter since I'm bringing my very own car.

no one gives a damn or check if you have the insurance or not actually, apart from police road block in front of the 7 near the Jaguar club. A way to counter this is do not go further more then the Jaguar club during the night ( for god sake if u don have any paperwork). Turn left into the hotel, park there (if u wanna go to that 711 or M Club or any club near there), and then leave through the same main road. Do not go U Turn to the other side of the road where u need to pass through road block in order to go back.

buy it immediately the next day if u wanna go further then Dannok, it can be found at shop at the thai custom area, u wont miss it there will be big sign saying thai insurance.

please remember your TM2 and TM3 as well, although these days they rarely check at the custom anymore.

All those paperwork are needed for those unforseen road blocks, or accidents if your luck really dries out.

Check out the first post of this thread, there is 2 form where the photo is posted horizontally. Well actually you only need to fill in the 1st page which is the TM2. TM3 is where you fill in the information of your occupants. I never fill in TM3 since the first day they implement this form for private vehicle and no one bother to check as well until today. TM2 and TM3 can get from thai custom officer for free, or Google.

You will need 2 copy, 1 for enter 1 for exit.

As the parking lot on the right side of the custom house is still under construction, you can drop everyone else at thai custom, u drive straight into thailand to park your car. If someone ask, just say parking ( i suggest you make a you turn and park in front of Oscar Hotel, damn near to border, and when you are done with your things you can easily U turn again and continue your journey.) But this also depends on which day of the week, usually at 10.30pm there will be some parking space at the side of the road just before you reach thai custom.

All of this is base on my experience, each may vary. If this is your first foray driving into Thailand, i suggest u follow everything to the book and experience it from there.

Have fun and stay safe.
