Starhub churn lower but new subscribers flat.....means not much new subscribers subscribe due to mio TV. Ha Ha.

When I call astro yesterday, the CS said there are no charges or additional condition to swap the old dmt to byond. So the old dmt can be kept without paying rm80 to the installer. There is also no contract and it is not compulsory to subscribe HD service. So any non byond users can swap for free with no condition.

hi, may I know where to buy a RG6 satellite cable (with connector at both end) for Astro Byond set?

I recently moved from a landed house to a condo where there is a centralised SMATV point for Astro connection. What I need is just a short (may be 3 metres) cable to get connected to Astro again.. Tx.

Why don't u just call Astro CS and make the arrangement for transferring the Byond set to new place? It's FOC you know. You even get more longer cable.

i hv left the dish+cable at my old house which would be used by someone else..

In my personal opinion, I believe that As*teruk are doing this "no installation charges, no additional contract" because they already knew a looooong time ago that many subscribers swap the smartcards between different old DMT boxes. Therefore, changing to the new Byond box will 100% lock the smartcard to that Byond box which prevent subscribers from using the swap smartcard use.

Eventhough any subscriber who did not subscribe to HD service, can use the new Byond box or the old DMT box, the main important difference for subscribers who "swap" smartcard is that... the Byond box is locked to that smartcard which CANNOT be used on another Byond box !

Example... IF you have 1 old DMT box in your Petaling Jaya house and 1 old DMT box in your other Damansara Utama house and only have 1 smartcard (1 subscription only), that single smartcard can be used at either of your 2 houses. Therefore... IF you changed the old DMT box to the new Byond box (yea, its free installation, no contract) THEN that single smartcard CANNOT be swap used anymore, hehe !!

For subscribers in such similar situations, PLEASE take note !!

For people who moved home (for example: from terrace house to another bungalow), the installer actually DO NOT remove the old LNB + dish and take it over to the new house to install... they just forget about the old dish and install new ones at the new location.

Since you have moved to a condo which already have Astro connections (centralised SMATV points), re-installation of LNB + dish is not necessary.

You mentioned that you are using Byond but did not say whether you subscribed to HD service or not and also did not say if Byond PVR or not. I believe this is important because the infrastructure installed at your new condo must support HD transmission which require higher specifications.

The best way for you is to call Astro Customer Support to "help" you "move" your Astro installation. What Smaelz83 replied earlier and suggested to you is correct, installation for moving house is free BUT not nationwide as some areas in Sabah is not easily accessible.

Well... if you managed to get just the RG6 co-axial cable, of course its mostly possible that everything will be okay BUT in my opinion, its better to contact Astro to send installer to check and then install everything for you. Anyway, you also need to contact them too... to inform them on change of residential/correspondence address for delivery of monthly statements, hehe.

Unless ACE Hardware is a very well-known company, I have never heard of it. For well-known names such as Carrefour, KFC, etc, its yes, I have heard of it.

As what james said.. truth is, I have relocate my Astro about 3 times, NS to Sel, and within Sel. What most installer from Astro will do is, they will tell you that you only need to bring the decoder only to new place. Then they will provide whatever item that need to install in your new place. As for you, they will provide the LNB cable.

I managed to grab one RG6 75ohm cable (Video) from ACE Hardware (DIY) store. It costs me around RM11 for 1-metre cable and it works. Tx.

I assume HBO Family HD on the IPTV one is delayed 1 hour after SIN time too.

I am not offended with your remarks, it is true and I have seen it. My cousin who has a byond box (non pvr) bring along the decoder in between his house and his mother's house in kampung. Thank goodness the decoder is way lighter than any previous decoder. Of course for most of us it is menyusahkan and imagine if the PVR is transported back and forth.

But I expect these changes when astro eventually phase out the old decoders completely:

1. SD channels will be in H.264.
2. Letterboxed 16:9 SD channels will be transmitted with native ratio OR the SD simulcast of a HD channel will be repealed in favour of the HD channels to save transponder space (this is the case for channels like KBS World, History, Lifetime, CI, SuperSports 1, 2, 3, and 4.)
3. 16:9 new SD channels will be introduced.
4. New channels on January 2014.

I thought the Movie channels with "Family" attached to the name is suitable for all ages and might be rated "U". So no or minimal censor maybe (except to remove iklans).

Astro still not convinced with HBO (Signature & Family) tv editing, hence they delay it.

Guys, question here... If I switch to Astro IPTV can my 2nd decoder continue to use satellite dish?

ACE Hardware is quite a well known DIY brand in the US. So I think it should be fine. I think their lack of recognition in Malaysia is due to the fact that their stuff is usually expensive compared to Mr. DIY and all the other normal electrical and hardware shops in Malaysia.

Since Astro TV Guide mobile apps stopped development, how can we do "Remote Recording" now?
Astro TV Guide website also not working for me, clicked record and confirm, then the indicator just spinning forever.
Also tried Safari browser on iPad, it even reported "There was an error....".
