After almost a year, I am happy to report my DV6-6168TX is still going strong. Some scratches on the aluminum cover, but otherwise no problems.

Hopefully I can get a new motherboard with 7690M XT on it
At least it'll suffice for now. If the motherboard dies another year from now, then it is time to jump ship to Sager Added on September 1, 2012, 9:37 pm QUOTE(deepcool0922 @ Sep 1 2012, 05:20 PM) Ah, at least a dv6 model comparable to the N56 onslaught. Still loses out with the below average thermal design and lack of backlit keyboard though..This post has been edited by keyzjh: Sep 1 2012, 09:37 PM |

QUOTE(Acid_RuleZz @ Sep 1 2012, 10:06 PM) Not yet. Guess I'll do it next weekend. No Dota 2 for me this week Btw, do you think this dv6 can hold up for another year in terms of using CAD and other engineering-related softwares? Ugh so envious of cheap GTX660M powered lappies! Sure they can.. its not an industry where u need to change your hardwares for every new release. I'm holding my urge too.. but there're not a significant upgrade imo. I hoping next gen mid-range card will be as powerful as current HD7970M. |

QUOTE(one1zs @ Sep 6 2012, 10:46 AM) I assumed the default one is Dynamic.. you gonna need Catalyst 12.7 Official Beta or newer driver so you can use AMD GPU in OpenGL games.Or you can just switched back to Fixed in BIOS.. confirm it will use AMD GPU. |

O_O I am totally confused now. Last week I was pretty sure the motherboard of my dv6 is faulty (unable to start up at all, no current LED, battery doesn't work).
Today I was going to send it to the service centre. Then I tried to turn it on again and it did. And this post is done using it. Everything is normal as before all of a sudden. I do feel I need to send it in still. But how do I prove there was a problem before? |

Sent it in without issues and told them about the problem. The next day I received a call from the person who is repairing it, asking about the exact problem I faced. I told them about the overheating issues and about re-applying thermal paste as well.just tell the them its an intermittent problem and ask the technicians to check what's wrong... (they blame my additional 4GB ram which i installed but i put it back in and its still working till today) Few moments later he called back to notify me that the motherboard will be replaced (even though they can't find any problems with the current MB), and the fans will be cleaned, as well as proper application of thermal paste. Way better than what I experienced with Acer. I'm quite surprised by HP actually. Hopefully they finish what they promised. This post has been edited by keyzjh: Sep 7 2012, 11:06 PM |
