What happen? u got OSX installed right? That doesn't void the warranty?

How long they took to change the mobo for u? I want one with auto switching too. D:
*
lol.... OH YA! i just realised i have OSX in my hdd when i send it for repair.... luckily they didnt found it.. haha
but the main reason i send it for repair is because my LAN port won't link at 1gbps... its always at 100mbps... and since
its still under warranty i decided to change it lo biggrin.gif

EDIT: total time to change the mobo: two working days.... kudos HP smile.gif

it's been a while since i installed OSX on my dv6 but you're in luck cuz I bookmarked the forum link on how to install it... biggrin.gif

here you go... basically all you need to do is restore the image to a usb drive and boot from it to install (borrow a mac from your friend to restore the image smile.gif )...
but do keep in mind that not all the stuff are working.... like wifi, USB3.0 and the AMD gpu...

insanelymac

good luck! biggrin.gif

Shit happens. Suddenly my dv6 wouldn't boot up at all. Even the LED indicating power source at the right side of the laptop isn't on when AC is connected (tested adapter, no issues with other hp laptop connected).

Then I tried with battery. Still no response whatsoever.

No beep sound. Nothing.

What can be the issue here? I have been using the laptop normally up until yesterday night and shutting it down properly. And all of a sudden it wouldn't boot up today sad.gif

Any help sifus?

by any chance did you just sent your dv6 for repairs at the KL service centre? because I had the EXACT same problem a few weeks ago (dead motherboard) and they replaced it with a new one... maybe they put my old motherboard into your laptop =.=

you can check if the mb is dead by plugging your AC adapter to your laptop and put your ear close to the power brick.. you will hear a faint, intermittent beeping sound from inside... (beep, silence, beep, silence, *repeat* )

No I haven't had any problems before this. So if there are beeping sounds does that mean the MB is dead?
*
yup. but even if there's no beeping sound i would say the mb is dead by the symptoms you posted above.... the beeping sound is just because the power brick is connected to AC but there's nowhere for the power to output... so i suggest you to send your laptop to the hp service centre ASAP... good luck ya smile.gif

EDIT: awww.. the mb is dead sad.gif

O_O I am totally confused now. Last week I was pretty sure the motherboard of my dv6 is faulty (unable to start up at all, no current LED, battery doesn't work).

Today I was going to send it to the service centre. Then I tried to turn it on again and it did. And this post is done using it.

Everything is normal as before  all of a sudden. I do feel I need to send it in still. But how do I prove there was a problem before?
*
ya same with mine last time... mb was dead for a few days and when i send it to hp service center, it suddenly came back on when the lady at the counter switched it on... swt =.=

just tell the them its an intermittent problem and ask the technicians to check what's wrong... (they blame my additional 4GB ram which i installed but i put it back in and its still working till today)

oh i see... i originally had 4+4GB ram. When I sent to service center, the technician said my another 4GB ram have error then took it out for me and tell me to claim warranty from the seller as it is a third party ram so they cant change it for me. The ram is kingston brand and I bought the laptop from a electric appliance shop. Am I still can claim for warranty for the ram? if im not wrong the ram is lifetime warranty right? hmm.gif
*
had the exact same problem with you last time... turns out the kingston ram is faulty (over 2000 errors in memtest) so i had it replaced for free. all you need to do is email kingston saying you need a warranty replacement... might help if you perform memtest and attach the screenshot to the email smile.gif

anyone have roughly an idea how much it would cost to change the motherboard? Motherboard number 584043-001. Laptop model HP Pavilion dv6-6053ea.
*
Hi there, saw your post and I just wanted to let you know that the motherboard number should be 641488-001 or 659148-001 for dv6-6001tx... 584043-001 is the product code for HP oem windows 7 home premium license biggrin.gif

And since you're in the uk right now, you can actually look around for hp dv6 motherboard on ebay UK... most of them will come without the cpu/ram/cooling so you need to transfer them from your old motherboard. good luck! smile.gif

PS: you can always install other motherboards (as long as it is designed for dv6) but there will be difference in the graphics card/cpu supported... i can send you a list of compatible motherboards if you want...
