Don't know if this question has been asked here, but is "The Big Shop" in Legoland? Meaning to say we need to purchase a legoland ticket in order to buy lego in "The Big Shop"?
Edit:- Additionally, any info on the tax (if any) if i buy lego from UK or US and ship in to Malaysia? This post has been edited by desolator: Sep 4 2012, 05:09 PM |

Meaning to say we need to purchase a legoland ticket in order to buy lego in "The Big Shop"? On Legoland, yes you'll need a ticket to get into The Big Shop, although to be frank there's nothing much there that you can't get elsewhere since the prices are the same. I wrote about the shop in depth on my blog if you want more info. Edit:- Additionally, any info on the tax (if any) if i buy lego from UK or US and ship in to Malaysia? On tax, you might run into problems with customs if your order is worth more than RM500. Also, stuff gets 'lost' pretty often if you use regular mail. I can certainly agree to "the evil monopolistic distributor with an iron grip on Malaysia’s Lego supply" part. On tax, you might run into problems with customs if your order is worth more than RM500. It should be in TLG's interest to grow the market, where as ALJ will just be looking at profit margin. |

It should be in TLG's interest to grow the market, where as ALJ will just be looking at profit margin. but as a distributor, u need to sell certain target/take certain volume. price wise, the adjustment will be based on market. of course, develop country have currency advantage, and may have much higer volume hence cheaper price. it seem tht so far local distro is surviving cos if the sales was very bad the distro will have to change or they need to push the good out to customer. so i guess AFOL market is too small here to influence the volume (which seems to be selling reasonably) hence at the moment i dun expect much movement or promo from distro. |

QUOTE(vey99 @ Sep 4 2012, 07:32 PM) i dunno wat is the deal between TLG and ALJ You're right that the AFOL market is too small. And AFOLs aren't the main buyers of LEGO, it's still primarily parents because, duh LEGO is a toy. Unfortunately, most parents I know have absolutely no clue about other alternative avenues to buy sets, so they buy them at TRU anyway and just complain that the prices are expensive. but as a distributor, u need to sell certain target/take certain volume. price wise, the adjustment will be based on market. of course, develop country have currency advantage, and may have much higer volume hence cheaper price. it seem tht so far local distro is surviving cos if the sales was very bad the distro will have to change or they need to push the good out to customer. so i guess AFOL market is too small here to influence the volume (which seems to be selling reasonably) hence at the moment i dun expect much movement or promo from distro. So yeah, business is booming for ALJ, so they have no real incentive to drop prices or even offer us sales (outside of the end year Bangsar Village one) |

TLG is still a private company, the business model and dependence on distributors and big time retailers will not be sustainable. They should focus growing and capture the Asian market which is getting more affluent. If they don't capture the young , the afol will not grow too. They should come in and set up regional offices around Asia instead of depending on distributors who will just think about making money while their agreement last, it is not their product after all.So yeah, business is booming for ALJ, so they have no real incentive to drop prices or even offer us sales (outside of the end year Bangsar Village one) The world is getting smaller, travel is getting cheaper. TLG may well find someday, no body wants to distribute their product for many can travel to Singapore and buy the Lego they need, for instance. Hey guys,
I'm torn between 2 sets... 4438 Robber's hideout & 4441 Police dog van. I like the play set in 4438 but i dont like the design of the vehicle. I like the vehicle in 4441 but there is no set to play with except for the "mine" Any suggestions? |
