I posted  instructions on how to build it is in my blog.  Since its going for about rm90.xx in TRU I think, quite a good catch for useful parts.
Not alot actually. there's about 5 or 6 more on the detolf display next to it.

Yea thats the "dilema" I'm facing with some LEGO models. Kai Blade cycle is simply too gorgeous (thank alucrix =) . I cant bear to disassemble it for MOC. Might leave it there for a while more.

No problem man! Love your display! Especially the Century Skyway!

Goodness, please edit out the post and stop quoting it. Just reading it is offensive. If you can't get Lego the right way, then first find the right way. If you want it bad enough, work for it.

Yeah. And we wonder why we don't have an Asian Lego.com presence...

If retailers in Malaysia is jacking up prices of Lego toys by a large profit margin, how come during sales time in department stores only gives out 10% discount at most?
*
To not eat into their profit margins yet give the impression to consumers that it's a good deal. I'm not surprised if their margins are above 50%. Even giving out a 10% doesn't really cost them much, yet because we've been trained to not expect any significant discounts, 10% still may seem like a good deal - even more so to regular buyers who aren't well versed with Lego prices.

The prices in Malaysia are actually okay compared to European countries (high VAT) and Australia (GST is killer) which both have pretty high labour costs due to very high minimum wage laws. Compare this to Malaysia where your average Jusco or Toys R Us drone is paid a measly, I don't know 7-8 bucks an hour? Labour costs in Malaysia are pretty much negligible.

The only huge problem is that we don't enjoy deep discounting that European and Australian countries enjoy because ALJ has pretty much monopolized the market - they have no competition so they have absolute power to dictate the prices of each set.

Also add to the fact that our currency is pretty weak diminishes our buying power, so we can't buy as much Lego in comparison to the salaries we earn than Aussies/Europeans - but that can be said about everything: clothes/gadgets/cars etc

tl;dr - ALJ has a monopoly on Lego and can do whatever the heck they want in regards to pricing.

Already happened with Sideshow, Hot Toys, Hasbro... Marvel and DC Comics... our food and drinks... Everything keeps on increasing... Even when Ringgit was stronger, things still remain at higher price points with distributors and retailers citing "increasing freight charges" and all that. What goes up (and up) never comes down hor? Can only go higher. Sigh!

And I believe Lego prices in S'pore have gone up in the last few months... Gonna match M'sian prices soon?!
Funny thing is, I moved from Hasbro to Lego... And I'm spending... MORE. Scary leh...!
Want to know another funny thing? Apparently "SALES", i.e. how much discount to offer, is also determined by the real culprit!!!
Can we all boycott and stop buying Lego products for a day? A whole week? A month? Six months?

The real culprit knows our weaknesses.

That's why there's no mercy. Price increase! Less discount! People will still buy...

And continue to complain...

And buy some more...

send them a message by only buying online smile.gif Even purchasing sets on bricklink, after factoring in shipping will most of the time be better than buying at retail.

Like for me, I source sets from my friend overseas - he ships 'em over from the US, especially when Amazon discounts their sets or Toys 'R' Us has a Buy One Get One Free offer. Have not bought any Lego here except for minifigs and when people give me shopping vouchers.

On a somewhat related note, someone once said that even if we were to takeover Hasbro and sell Star Wars ourselves, we (in M'sia) still won't have the sales to compete with Singapore and other countries. Hasbro 3 3/4" in M'sia retails for RM42.90. In S'pore it's RM50 after conversion (but dollar to dollar and when you're earning Singapore dollar, it's definitely cheaper). In Thailand, it's RM75 after conversion.

Back to Lego, S'pore sales offer 20% discount. One shop even has 15% off all year round.

M'sia?

TRU gives vouchers. But for a set that cost more than RM250, like Jabba's Palace is RM800+, still only RM40 voucher.

Other retail stores 10% discount. But if you compare Jabba's Palace, in S'pore, it's only RM600+. Here it's over RM800. Does 10% (that is, if it's given at all) matter?
*
Heh, TRU vouchers only give you a 5% 'discount'. It's not really a discount because you only get to claim the amount 'saved' on your next purchase. Jusco/Parkson and Brickboy would be your best bet, since the savings are immediate.

Seriously, have you guys even been to Universal Studios Singapore ? Do you feel hot and sweaty walking around ? Even with canopy/covered walkways ?

I can't imagine sweating walking in Legoland Malaysia.

It's nice to goto open theme parks in cool weather like Genting, or HK/Japan/US/Europe during autumn/spring, but our hot and humid weather ...  sweat.gif

Unless you going to water theme park (Sunway, A-Famosa, etc.), that is different.

Walk around, go for a few rides, start getting sweaty - duck into the Lego shop! Wash, rinse, repeat!

As for exclusive sets, so far I see it is stuff like stationary, t-shirts, clothing, towels etc. I do not know if there is any sets which are exclusive to Legoland itself. There is however exclusive bricks based on certain special events. For us AFOL the main stuff we want is mainly for the bricks or sets only. I wonder how much are they going to charge for the pick a brick. If the price comes up more expensive than buying a modular building might as well buy a modular building for parts. I will seriously compare the RM/kg of a modular to that of the pick a brick. Unless of course they have rare colors like the green from green grocer (unlikely) or Maersk blue (more unlikely).

I foresee those retailers in Singapore will make a major killing if the price inside LM is expensive.

Oh, anyone will predict the mad rush to the Big shop at opening time to picit-picit all the Series 7? laugh.gif
*
I'm a little skeptical with the Pick A Brick, since they're going to charge by weight instead of per cup, from the info they've released. Hopefully they reverse the decision on that.

As for prices in Legoland, I believe they're going to be Singaporean prices, simply because Legoland caters to Singaporeans.

Have to separate into licensed and non-licensed set , still.  Licensed set hits a wallet-squeezzing 50 sen per piece on average.  The rest mostly lingers around 35 - 40 sen.  LEGO company LOVE to introduce huge part into the set to justify their 40 sen per piece .  Just look at the dino theme. Each dino figure "contributes" to the set , lessening the number of actual parts .  And lets look at the Creator motorcycle, just by having 2 big tyres inside... the parts count become <200 for    rm100 (assuming 10% discount). I don't want to talk about overpriced ninjago vehicles either that (again) contains 2 or more HUGE tyres.
*
You've got a really good point there, hence why Creator sets are usually the more affordable ones. It's usually a huge investment on Lego's part when they have to come up with new moulds for the specialized pieces and stuff so I can kinda understand and close one eye when I have to pay a slight premium for pieces.

Anyway, I've never really believed in the whole price per piece method of gauging a value of a set since it's quite an arbitrary way of looking at things.

Oh well, hoping we'll also get to see some older Series 1-2 elements in the Build a Minifigure at Legoland! Fingers crossed that they'll put the consumers first!

You can use the minifig ice trays to make chocolate. Don't think you're infringing on copyright. Doubt Lego will come after you, unless you open up a factory and start selling your stuff in Giant/Carrefour

my friend went and call me to report.
the price is ALJ price
no see any old set like carousel (which reported by someone that they may have it)
Modular got some only as showed in official LEGOLAND facebook page
no green grocery, no imperial, even no LOTR yet
and no pick a brick shop yet

Hey guys

Sorry for missing out on updating from Legoland today, my phone ran out of battery halfway.

Musha got most of it right - ALJ prices (ugh), although there were some positives.

Quite a few Lego Store exclusives (i picked up a few) which I thought were worth it since there's no real easy way to get them here. They had a lot of Battle Packs (City Fire, PotC, Kingdoms Dragon Knights vs Lion Knights), a ton of keychains but nothing much for AFOLs. No polybags too except Ninjago Kendo + Jay and the Halloween brick set.

Oh, but they had a really nice selection of Architecture sets.

Here's what I picked up.

user posted image

Also, I'm highly doubtful that they would bring back old sets... Wouldn't make much sense to have Green Grocers of Imperial Star Destroyers when they've been discontinued for so long.

And yes, the Pick a Brick and Build a Minifig isn't open yet BUT I think I managed to wrangle the prices out from some of the employees there.

One of the managers that worked at the store said that Pick a Brick will cost RM30-35 for 100gm of Lego. Not too sure of the selection though, will find out on September 15. Also, for the Build A Minifig, 3 minifigs will cost you RM25, which isn't too bad. I pressed them further for more info on whether we'd get any sets that would be exclusive to Legoland, and he said maybe - they're still not too sure yet and will only know when the park opens officially.

Will be writing a blog post on this and post up pictures of the store and the park soon! Lemme know if you have any other questions! I took down a lot more details in my notebook.

Hrm.. RM30-35 per 100gm? not sure worth or not..

If I had a scale at home.. I would get some bricks to see how much 100gm of bricks is. Anyone here can do that? Depends on the parts though. If it were 100gms of foliage, or nice coloured tiles, it might be an okay deal.

then even singapurean wont buy any set!
was thinkin about samurai mech... do u think it solid enuf can be play by kid?
not worth to go all d way there for sets purchase
considering it cost like rm140/entry + travel costs , end up maybe RM300+ to go there.
RM30 is too high liao... but i shortage white bricks and those box sets dun give much white
probably have to hunt in BL for a shop that sells most of the parts i want
Ya, i try to build a villa and the structure take too many bricks if doing minifig scale..
but if moc a smaller villa, then cannot "play" liao....
*
Yeah, totally not worth it, unless you're actually going to the theme park. If you're heading that direction, might as well drive down to Singapore since it's only about half an hour away to pick up some cheap lego.

Agreed with Josh and Alan, might as well get it off BL. But oh damn, if they have a whole pot of trans pieces, clear bricks or *fingers crossed* the new round tiles... it's going to be hard to resist.

I'm still optimistic that we'll see some surprises in the Build a Minifig section - if there are Series 1 and 2 parts available, it would be great. And at RM8~ a minifig, might be an easy-ish way to army build. I expect that to be quite popular, since the pricing is just about right. Hope the accessories available will justify the prices.

I checked on Amazon the shipping weight of the Town Hall is 11 lbs. Assuming the town hall itself is 10.5 lbs, it will be around 4.8kg. Taking the RRP of the Town Hall of RM 899, the RM to kg for the Town Hall is RM 191 per kg or RM 19.10 per 100g which is still cheaper than the RM 30-RM35 per 100g. So if you want parts better off buying the Town Hall since you are getting a full building plus some minifigures (best man and the bride thumbup.gif ).

Unless there are rare bricks in rare colors like Maersk blue, Sand Green then it might be worth it to get a bucketload of bricks.

How is the selection of 5 digit set there? They say the Big Shop was supposed to have the best selection of Lego in SEA but I do not see the Town hall, Sopwith Camel, SSD, Maersk train etc. I read someone mentioned no LOTR which I think is ridiculous since there are LOTR sets everywhere.

If the prices are as what you have mentioned then I see no reason to buy the annual pass and visit the park often to get my Lego.
*
They had the Grand Emporium, Town Hall, R2-D2, Super Star Destroyer, Death Star, Imperial Shuttle, Winter Bakery, Winter Post Office and theTower Bridge. If you count architecture sets (since they're technically 5 digits) but nothing you can't get at Brickboy.

Notable exclusions include, like you mentioned, Sopwith, Maersk, Pet Shop, Fire Brigade, Emerald Night Express and VW Combivan among others.

I guess when they said "best selection" they meant all the other accessories and premiums like mugs, t shirts, lanyard and stuff.

The very fact that they didn't have any polybags other than the Halloween brick set was telling enough. But I asked the Store Manager and they did say that they was more Lego coming in and that the Shop wasn't 100% stocked yet. I guess we'll find out on opening what else we'll see.
