When the new Mk6 SE came about, they were letting go pre-reg Mk6 GTI at around RM188k-RM195k based on their mileage.

Thats close to about 20% discount.
*
Just want to clarify, i thought pre-reg cars are new cars? If new how can thr be such high mileage on them?

Pre-reg can be showroom car or demo car. Example, when Polo Sedan was launched few months back, they have more than 10 units driven accross the country for roadshow, this would be consider pre-reg car when VW sell it.
If go to take loan, bank will consider this as new car but with some mileage on it...

Weird, i was told by many SA ,pre-reg is brand new cars which are registered upfront in order for them to meet the quota of that year. Thats why all pre-reg cars already come with number plates .

Basically i was told there are

Pre-reg cars
Demo car
Pre-owned cars
Showroom car

No, it is no longer new as in order to get a number plate and roadtax (to be road worthy so that it can be driven around instead of being driven on the back of a truck) it has to be registered. Therefore on the car registration card, the first owner would be VW Malaysia. It will be considered as secondhand by the bank when it sold to the buyer. Pre-Reg, Pre-owned, Pre-whatever are just terms used by the car manufacturers to hide the word "secondhand"....

Hi, experience to share.
Owning a car is same like owning a software, Total Cost of Ownership, included time.
Yes, recalled, but they are responsible that is important. Reliability is not just 1 person to say but build on long time. For me, rather take a old tech, but reliable and have more time with family and friends rather take a high tech with problem and need to spend time to find spare parts and go to SC waste valuable time, $ and effort. More high tech tend to have more problem and more speed will let you more high chance of speeding and get AES summon and take your life to higher risk.

Car is just a transport and time with family is more important.
Wife and car cannot compare, one is human and another is vehicle (no life). It is just sharing, no offence to anyone. Choice is still at your hand.

Think of it this way..

A showroom car is not registered and not used but no longer spanking new. By the time they sell it, it could be months or years since it left the factory and touched by thousands of people. However, you will still be the first buyer as it is usually not registered as long as they don't need to drive it on the road.

Pre-owned and pre-registered are the same, just different terms. Both already have 1 owner on the registration card but may not be used extensively.

Demo/test-drive car, well.. the pre-registered car that gets trashed by all potential customers...

Yes 1st owner is volks malaysia and 2nd owner will be our name. But bank will consider it as new car. Thats why we can get new car interest rates. This is called pre registered cars. To meet sales quota for that year. So that they will receive a bonus from Volkswagen germany. Hence the bonus is used to give discounts to buyers of pre registered cars. Its basically a win win situation here.

Pre-owned is basically secondhand cars.

Use kapchai also can. Ask from motor-shop / runners. I recall is about 1k-1.2k total everything.
Best if you have friend want to buy kapchai, and you trade with him, of course you need to subsidise him a bit for taking your plate number. Maybe RM800 can.

No, is the total cost you have to pay to settle the transaction.

Not include the cost of the kapchai.

e.g. If kapchai sell new = 5k

Shop boss will sell the transfered plate kapchai to other people for 4-4.5k

But you need to pay shop boss 1-1.2k to settle all the paperwork, transfer, etc.

I recall this is not possible.
Existing plate can only goto a new car. Not 2nd hand car (pre-reg).
Must buy a non-pre-reg car, i.e. new un-reg car.
Unless the runner conned me last time.
