So...
I think I'll get either the SAL18250 or the SAL18135.
Wait till I got a chance to try.
I normally shoot animals, insects, plants, and sumtimes gathering parties.

And here's a nice comparison I found:

Really hope that the SAL18250 is able to get some upgrade like adding a SAM motor in these few days.  tongue.gif

Seems like we are unable to sway your decision. The 18250 is not a bad lens overall. If you can find usage for it then go for it by all means. It's unlikely that it will get any SAM upgrade though.

What we are actually trying to say is that if you already have the 18-55mm kit lens and the only reason you want the 18250 is for the zoom, zoom action then the price of the lens may not be justified. For the 18-55mm range you get similar IQ with the kitlens. It could be that your kitlens may offer even better IQ. As for 55-250mm your needs may be better served with a 55-200mm kit lens. The 50mm does not count for much and you could pick up a second hand 55-200mm for less than RM500.

The 55-20mm is f4 - f5.6 so you gain in terms of aperture rating and I know many would swear that the IQ is better compared to the 18-250mm.

The only drawback with a 18-55mm plus a 55-200mm setup is that you need to change lenses.

So if you die die also dun want to change lens then by all means get the 18250 or the 18135

And I also agree with jimlim007 that if you want to shoot bugs and flowers, a macro lens may be a better idea.

Hmm... havent get anything yet, including the body. I just want to get the other lens by the time I get the A57, but unsure if the shop can let me change the pack or not.
blush.gif
I think a real try on these will help a lot for me to decide, but a few shops in my area dun have these lens. doh.gif

In US, some shops are able to give full refund if u feel the lens isn't suitable for u and reject the lens in 30days, which is thumbup.gif good for a DSLR nb like me. Not sure that Malaysian shops offer these kinda things?

Nope. I did some researches on the net, and some US people mentioned that they return the lens in 30days and they get full refund by the shop. I been to Sony Store and they said that currently no packages available for A57+SAL18135, but theres a package like this for A37. Thats why I asked u where to get this package. wink.gif

Only the A57K(Body + SAL1855) package available in Msia. sad.gif

Guys guys
Sorry to interrupt.
I got one question.
Is it worth to buy extended warranty (1+2yrs).?

Have u guys who purchase it before fully utilise (after 1yr manufacturer warranty expired)?

And what's the common service that we can expect instead of only for repair?

In my case the EW cost me whopping RM400.00 .. Sigh!

Chihuahua921, i had 3 friend just purchase that package. its all over our malaysia merdeka+malaysia day offer leaflet.
there is 2 combo with 18135,
A77+18135
A57+18135
*the merdeka offer also offer PWP for extra batt for 50% off, and rm300 off for 50mmF1.8.
** in the US, i haven seen any package offers, but plenty of review website for this lens stated it is available bundle with the A57 kit.

US has the right to return any electronic for full refund even after 6 month under "satisfaction". my friend dad did that to his 24inch monitor samsung before returning to malaysia,... this is very bad for US market.

thevelvet, go for the extended warranty. it covers manufacturing defects like shutter, buttons, sensors dmg. i always extend all my warranty for peace of mind.
thing that are not covered are, Batt charger, batt(standard 3 months), self inflict dmg(usually LCD crack by knocking on something) and water dmg(stardard invalid warranty coverage by any company)

chihuahua, i think u can get around 2950 for a deal standard box package, with 16gb card+cleaning kit + bag, purchase the extra batt at 50% off. trust me, good deal. and since now is FOC additional 1 year warranty, sum up of 2 year. but its your choice if u wanted to upgrade to 3 years.

(my friend from sarawak gotten 3k as deal)

The cosplayer? I dunno whether boy or girl. I just shoot and don't really ask questions.
The 18-250mm can be a good travel lens if you do not mind its drawbacks. It's quite prone to CA and lose sharpness after the 200mm mark. I dunno about you but I would prefer a wider end for travel but that's just me. You seldom actually use the tele end even when travelling. Of course if convenience is high on your list then the 18-250 can be the all-in-one. If I was the one going travelling now with all I have learnt over the years, I would pick the 16-50mm f2.8 lens for travel coupled with the A57. 16mm for the wide and 35 to 50mm for street and portraits. You could leave all tele lens at home and won't miss much.

I got 16-50 and this comment make me feel just nice n relieve as already invest lotsa Ringgit on this lense.
At first I was thinking like the zoom of 200/250 quite useful but with f3.5/f6 I might not satisfied much.
Hope this lense can serve the purpose well coz definitely will take a while for me before invest another lense. cry.gif

Looking fwd for this November vacation but before that need to learn lots from u guys.
Hope can advise one or two things biggrin.gif
