Guys debating between Streamyx or unifi VIP 5. What do you think? I download quite a bit, and I live in coverage area for Streamyx and unifi.

Sorry for spamming here, (not Unifi user)
I'm totally desperate waiting UniFi to be available in my hometown.
Totally 100% because want to subscribe cheaper OKU 5Mbps package instead that Streamyx.

If TM so cheapskate, why they don't just upgrade ADSL to VDSL2 for landed homes. I mean its cheaper (correct me if wrong) by just replacing the copper port to VDSL2 once fibre optic has been laid. As for distance issue, build VDSL2 DSLAM inside residential area.

Sorry, TL;DR. But I'm totally desperate waiting for high speed uplink with better pricing. *Sigh* maybe my area will never get that coverage.

want to ask about installation...
TM web say, FREE fiber cable = 15m
then will charge rm50 for every meter additional.

my office building-school-3storey
TM already lay cable from TM pole beside road to the building (mdf room, cooper cable also lay to this room, and all telephone line is coming from this room)

this is the picture of the box TM installed at my office building mdf room (is it FTB? DP?)
Attached Image

so, the BTU will directly connect to this box?
or any other box will installed before BTU?

from that box to my server room is more than 15meter (still at same floor)
so I need to pay rm50 for additional of every meter of fiber cable?

still don't get any answer, because asking the TM guy setup this box, also the next week asking the boy doing testing, then get many answer. Some say free, some say it depend to contractor.

for now i still waiting my registration of unifi approved.
register to upgrade from streamyx 4mbps, unifi biz10 free installation
but it's still free if more than 15meter?

so still calculating the additional cost if it happen.

Are you really sure it's RM50/m. That seems excessively expensive.

At that price, I would reconsider whether the BTU needs to be physically in the server room. You could build a box around it, affix it to a wall, and connect it to your server room using regular network cable.

I have a question regarding 3rd party replacement router.

Seems like TP-Link TL-WR1043ND is quite an old model now, is this still the best recommended wireless router for unifi today?

What the... my Unifi was down on Sunday, and on Monday technician checked the outside poll and found that the Unifi box had been infested with insects. sweat.gif That's what he said. Contractor then came and did whatever it is he did and then later that day my connection was fine once more.

Anyone got jalan to complain to unifi faster? I've got a repeat of a inconsistent connection problem. Last time i had it in october and it took unifi 3 weeks to verify and solve it. (something to do with the exchange near my house) the reason it took 3 weeks is because the damn center and the technician always miscommunicate and keep closing my complain report.

So anyone got anyway to bypass all their stupid BS protocol?

@akinisan, from that box there. TM will provide an outdoor black cable. This outdoor cable will go from your mdf room to just outside your office. Then it'll go into another transition box and out comes the white indoor cable. This white cable is the one that they will give free for 15M. This white cable will be the one connecting to the BTU.

@J-slade, the best is quite relative.
there's Asus N66U then N56U.
There's even draytek units.
If you are looking for value for money then there's TP-Link WR4300
