There are 2 ways to root it.
1.) unlock bootloader. This is the official way to root the phone, but you will void the warranty.
2.) lock bootloader. This is an exploit to root the phone without unlock bootloader. You won't void the phone warranty.

You can go to XDA for more information.

sry noob here hehehehe but whats the different between lock bootloader and unlock bootloader

My friend's Xperia S facing the yellow spot at the bottom part of the phone also..
All he need to do is just send the phone to any Sony Centre to repair?

How long do they usually take?
I'm planning to send it to Sunway pyramid's Sony centre..
They will replace a whole new unit or they just replace the LCD?

Thanks..

Sony Center do not warranty for your phone. You need to send to service center. Recommended send to SEMS at Amcorp Mall.

hi fellow xpsers. is the 2.45 ICS worth it after so long? i'm still on GB. but i read some positive reviews on the latest updates. what do you guys think?

oh is the slide to silent back in this update?

add: ok after reading even more. still not wise to update. still no slide to silent. that's the main turn off among other things.  doh.gif  shakehead.gif

Well, that function no longer important to me after i root it. I can set it in the notification bar.

I just long press power button to silent =)

even when the slider was there we needed to press the power button to wake up the phone anyway.
not much difference for me.

honestly speaking since the previous update the phone has been butter smooth. no issues with smoothness or anything.

Good Morning to All,

I have noticed that different Custom Rom has it own Recovery as I have tried KA12 Xperia Sspeed Rom and the Kernel.. Got into bootloop and stuck into boot image only.. Lucky i did nandroid backup via CWM..
At first my thought is that I have bricked the phone...

After few hours (4 - 6 hours) of seaching in XDA forum, finally I got one solution that is to flash Recovery-Nozomi.img via fastboot method and also reflashed back the Advance Stock Kernel via Fastboot method and reboot in recovery then restore back my backup.. Hmmmm finally it did boot up as normal ...

Now I am bit worry about flashing custom rom via CWM.. currently I am running Stock Rom with Advance Stock Kernel.. now I now checking on battery life..

One thing I have notice about this XPS, it wont get hot that fast as other model smartphones do.. (I have browsed almost 1 hr, it does not get hot only warm a bit only)

Anyway, It is good phone..

I rooted my phone over the weekend with CM9.1 and the instructions were not very clear and I was at a point where my phone keep fast booting to the bootloader and didn't manage to get the CM file into the memory.

After 4 hours, I'm finally on CM9.1. Seriously phone manufacturers shouldn't bother skinning the stock ROMs, they are the best! Battery life is now improved. Loving my "new" phone again.

I tried image only. Open the image, contact the xps back to back, and long press the image.

If you root with the official method aka unlock bootloader, eventhough you unroot, it still consider void the warranty.

I have a confession to make this morning.
Fellow XPS users, I accidentally poured half a cup of Nescafe White Coffee onto my XPS.. But since I'm using a tight TPU case, the coffee was like 'trapped' and my screen looked like a mini water pool. shocking.gif

I was panicking. Was charging the phone but the screen is locked.
I pulled the plug off my XPS and started wiping it with a thick towel. After 5 min, I opened the TPU case and wiped the screen. I cleaned the phone and the case with Dettol hand sanitizer (alcohol). I even opened the back cover, only a small drop of coffee gets in.

My phone survived the incident. Nothing went wrong.
Thank god. thumbup.gif

Lesson learnt: Never place drinks close to your phone and a good case really helps! Haha.
