To make database more informative, the requirements must be met. Steppings are very important piece of information as such to see the pattern of the performance.

Guys, the more information you can provide the better it's for the database. Songhan89 was a good example of a format I hope to see. However, there are some things that could be added up such as mobo type and size of ram. Hopefully this trend will continue. Hey, you can post up the whole setup rig if you want to.

I'm using dual boot system comprising Ubuntu Linux and WinXP, The grub boot loader provided by the distro seems to include memtest86 at the startup. So no need for me to made a memtest boot CD. But I did remember I had one before and had no drama whatsoever with the format. I'm not the format guru, this question might get answered if you try the software section instead.

Oh, btw I would appreciate if irrelevant questions not be asked here. Just post your screenies and head over to A64 overclocking discussion thread or you can always open a new thread for Dual Core discussion.

Moderator discretion applies here. Moderator have the rights to delete, remove or edited your posts if find that it's unneccasary and not informative.

Hopefully there is no such thing as "How do I overclock" kind of question in here. We need forumers to self moderate this thread on behalf of the moderator team. If there is such question, hopefully forumers can point out where the question should be asked instead of answering the question. Thanks.

Haiyaaaa, this thread sudah mati kar? I finally had sum time to really sit down n tweak the hell out of my X2 4200+. I've had it for a few months n never bothered to really torture it. I had it at 2.4ghz using the Asus AI Booster auto OC. I didn't haf the time b4 this n was lazy to learn the weird BIOS of the A8N32SLi mobo. It's a got quite a few settings which u don't normally c in AMD64 mobos. This is coz of the 2x16 PCIe on this mobo. Took me about 2-3 hours just 2 learn the weird BIOS on it. sweat.gif sweat.gif

Finally got down to tweaking the BIOS for a proper OC today n managed to get 2.86ghz bootable. It's not stable n will crash.

I've finally got it stable now at 2.7ghz. The settings r:-

245x11 @ 1.6V(Load temp- 63C using XP120), Mem divider at 166, Mem timings at 2.3.2.5 @ 1T.

Here's a screenie of the 2.7ghz doing 3DM06.

go for WC gsan, i think with tht steppings, u can oc to 3ghz easily using water cooling... i gonna add radiator and bow my apogee gt soon in order to get better temps for my poor steppings opty 170. hope it yields better temp as i think mine almost reach its maximum since i need 1.55v to get 2.6ghz, plan to oc to 2.7ghz but scare high vcore will kill the proc...

OC depends on luck also ma. Some people are lucky to get a good proc.

2.7 Ghz is acceptable what...... my 4200+ x2 max out at around 2.8 Ghz although I've never gone above 1.42v yet. Too high temp......

Im running 2.6 Ghz at stock vcore now, 2.7ghz sometimes got error while priming. Maybe the burn ins period not long enough.. Or should i upped the voltage more ?

Stock vcore as in 1.35v? I thought it is generally considered "safe" to increase the vcore by 0.05v if you have stock hsf and by 0.05-0.10v if you have a good hsf.......

Of course, you have to watch your core temp too....

Im using watercooling fyi, my core temp never exceed 52c under full load at noon. Now its 46c under load with 2 [email protected] clients. smile.gif

You actually dont need to increase the vcore if its stable at the stock speed. Unnecessary voltage = more heat.

now i running at 267*10=2670Mhz using 1.4vcore and cpuz shows 1.424v.
havent prime for long time, coz 1.7 need 1.5v to be stable... and the temp at 60C.
so now downclock a bit and run at a lower vcore... 50C++ only.

i suggest jus stay there, do some folding for a month or 2, and you can go down 0.025-0.05v. well, mine seems good, now smp with 1.42~v biggrin.gif
prime? orthos stable? nah, put those aside as im [email protected] smp stable tongue.gif

Not bad what. My x2 4200+ will fail at 2.7 Ghz at stock vcore after a few hours of orthos. Only stable at 2.69 Ghz at stock.

In order to get stable at 2.74 Ghz need to pump up to 1.40v from 1.35v.....  sad.gif

Haven't really tried the max at higher voltages yet as I'm not too happy with core temp above 55'c.....

I believe that is the mobo limited the proc, maybe vdroop cause it unstable at stock. smile.gif

I found that the memory controller of x2 LCBQE 0648SPMW is quite weak, my bh5 cant run 180MHz divider stable @ 2.7GHz which yield 242MHz ram speed, timing is 2-2-2-5, 1T and vdimm is 3.2v.

242mhz ? Highest you can get is 250mhz ? To me it is still ok.. laugh.gif Mine, instead of 300mhz i only get 280mhz at most. Limited by mobo.

250MHz is for my X2 LCBIE 0621VPMW but this LCBQE really weak, I tried 2.7GHz with 166MHz divider which running at 225MHz ram speed @ 2.9v prime failed too. doh.gif

I dont think so, these guys are running their BH5's with 3.2v including Gsan.

Is it ? Then Gsan should know about this.. he's using stock vcore and high vdimm for his rig.

stock vcore is 1.35v right?

regarding this issue, I knew it from XS before, but so far I have not experience it, maybe it will happening one day later and atm I limited the vdimm up to 3.3v

Ya, I knew about this when I was trying to underclock my 3500+ previously.

The general formula is vdimm/2 - vcore = result.

The result should not be more than 0.325v.

e.g. 2.9v/2 (=1.45) - 1.125 (vcore) = 0.325

So, a vcore of 1.125v is the absolute minimum.....

well, the LCBQE 0648SPMW finally can prime 2.7GHz @ stock vcore stable with the FFT is from 8k to 512k. at first, I tried 2.7GHz @ stock vcore but it prime failed within 3 hours and pump to 1.375v it still prime failed within 10+ hours provided the vdimm is 3.2v. the reason I set vdimm to 3.2v because the others X2 running 2.7GHz with 180MHz divider need this vdimm. but for this X2, it need 3.3v to prime it stable and I believe that FFT more than 64k is more stress to memory.

You mean to say that vdimm also affects max CPU OC speed? hmm.gif

nope, what I want to point out is FFT more than 64k is stressing memory than cpu.

Ya, that's what I was thinking. Everytime the FFT is high e.g. 380k, the CPU temperature drops. This probably means that it is not stressed that much.

So, the recommendation of setting the FFT to 8 - 512k is actually to stress the whole rig right? I thought initially it was solely for the CPU.... doh.gif

for testing whole system stability, use blend test, FFT 8k-4096k

you can raise it up to 2.9v provided you have proper cooling to it. smile.gif

Ya, proper cooling on it and slightly warm only. I can do 282mhz on 2.7v currently and i supposed i already reached mobo's limitations.

i saw lotsa people got diff core temp between core0 - core1, i also experience this, difference of 8c+ make my x2 3800 cnt go higher with high vcore even with water cooling as the oc failed because of one of the core reaching 59c while another still held at 49c at noon. i can oc higher at midnight compare to day time, LOL... i think its amd ihs problem
