how many michelin starred restaurants are there in malaysia? zero?

most malaysians, including myself, have close to zero exposure to what good food actually is.

even the shitty shitty shitty places that serve shitty shitty shitty food like pappa rich and  old town are doing very good business and growing everyday. it just shows how poor us malaysians are at telling good food from bad.

u have the money to eat good foods u can go ahead, local foods does not need michelin rating coz every malaysians know their taste, no matter how much popular those restaurant like paparich or watever restaurant still they serve local foods

many of them go those cafe restaurant yet they still eat hawker stall food the next day, how much u can spend on those restaurant like papa rich or old town white coffee? even if u earn 3k a month, u will not even willing to eat at those restaurant every single day without fail?

those restaurant are getting more famous everyday becoz it was convenient for them to eat when when u are working in office, u have only 1 hour break for lunch, don't come and say that you willing to drive 1km just to eat at hawker stall restaurant? doh.gif

I have tried restaurants at the top end: noma, the fat duck and still find myself craving for malaysian foods.

No they are not over-rated.

Not everyone is Sek San (God of Eatery)... some food is good because it is good, some is "good" because we have been brainwashed to think it is "good".

It 'feels' the best because we grew up with it ...

We are used to our own food!! Most ppl like their home country home cooked food!! It's just a biased opinion.

its not actually that expensive. in the uk for example, some pubs are michelin-starred. you can get lunch at ramsay's restaurant for under 100 quid (set lunch at claridge's 30 quid, in fact), but you need to enter a waiting list. it's the quality (as roughly defined by the totally subjective judgment of the judges) rather than the price.

having said that i still like malaysian food more. problem, op?

fair enough...some of us have been trained to like our food since young. that is understandable. read up about pavlov conditioning to learn more...

my point is, the rather cold reception for malaysian food elsewhere says a lot about our current cuisine. not enough creativity! how many new dishes coming out? every food court i go sells the same thing

interesting...i wonder which laksa are the referring to? probably singapore version (kari laksa in KL)

start from 9:25

anthony bourdain said penang laksa is a bloody magnificent dish, that americans would love it if its served there, and is a hearty dish. If u still wanna argue about his review then u must have had a better taste and standard than him, who has probably eaten a more expensive meal in a day than the entire meal u had in 1month. Heck he even had the chance to eat wagyu beef, foie gras, truffles, and caviar, so his review must be UNDISPUTED notworthy.gif

got...3rd world food..think zimbabwe, lithuania, jamaica, philipines, indonesia....

now 1st world...think spain, italy, france, japan, USA....

3rd world food bcos the ppl poor, cant afford high quality materials and talented artists to make food. how many can afford 50 dollar artisan meals in zimbabwe? can use top fish and high quality meat?
*
Have you been to obscure countries like Dagestan or republic of Ghana. Their cuisine might taste gooding than those fancy restaurant that you speak of despite their shitty materials. Who knows, you've never been there.
