If u tour Xinjiang market, u can see exact same thing - the only difference is they use bamboo thin sticks and no ketupat. rice.....stolen from china. they pioneered itRojak = stolen from surabaya traditional delicacy. Hainan chicken rice = stolen from hainanese people in china. Penang CKT = stolen from hakkanese food called Pan Tiao - u see that in china. Fried in same way, except they dont use siham. They use pork strips. pasta/spaghetti, marco polo stolen from china too. iphone, stolen from china foxconn too, they made it first |

QUOTE(Squidward @ Jul 9 2012, 10:26 PM) Many locals sing praise about our food (so faptastic). But isit that good? most never seen the outside world. Thai food is major success worldwide. Tom yam half the world know. Our food? bah kut teh barely international. Got a few malaysian restaurants in europe and US, never really took off and expand wildly. interest level quite low. Compare world class sushis The burger kaw kaw is famous because burger is our kind of food. We don't have a lot of people who want to open Malaysia food in other countries that's why we are not famous. What do you think about, keropok ikan terengganu, kari kepala ikan, ayam pedas, ayam masak kicap, budu, tempoyak, nasi kukus, nasi dagang, nasi kerabu, rendang, gulai kawah, nasi minyak(my favourite), ayam percik, martabak. How about all this food? Do you think it is all rubbish? Why? our food generally of low quality produce and use salty, heavy sauce to compensate. Not surprising given our 3rd world status (thanks to BN Mee goreng? just some fried noodles Asam laksa? Thai's tom yam more memorable Roti canai? oily pancake..thats all... bah kut teh? this one more interesting...but plenty of interseting china dishes that never gone international....bah kut teh meat is consider just so-so compare to top produce from France. Just compare our produce even! Durians...best sent to Singapore Mangosteen...best sent to Japan Seafood...selects sent to Hong Kong Left rubbish for us local..... When a simple burger like Kaw Kaw (by western standards) can become a huge fad, we know our food need serious improve! I say our standard has dropped way below 20 years ago! Pls no more tidak apa attitude and self praise! u like salt sugar and MSG? just dump them into mee and discard everything. oh wait thats char kuey teow! there...your kind of food. |

lol at the guy who says food in Malaysia is stolen. there's a difference between stealing and modifying which is what the Chinese ancestors in Malaysia did like adding Malaysian chili sambal to fry CKT etc.
damn. delicious is subjective, if u think rm1000 food is always better than rm5 food just because of the more expensive price tag, you have something wrong in your mentality. to you, cheap food = crap. bullshit. u really think raw materials so expensive? go sabah for example, the fresh seafood there are very cheap go to restaurant, prepare to pay rm300+ for a rm50 fish. roti canai cockroach food? LOL. why are we arguing with a troll anyway. I doubt this guy actually has the money to eat luxurious food like he claim. probably a poorfag that have no chance to taste the so called luxurious food. btw, "luxurious" steak, lobster, pasta, all are above average at best. its well known that overpriced food=overrated shit. LAKSA is becoming more and more prominent all over the world. i've seen international cuisine shows that refers to laksa as if it's a very common dish that the audience are expected to know. like for example, "this tastes almost like LAKSA, but runnier...".
now, TV show hosts dont use that sorta reference unless it's common, like PIZZA or BURGER. |

QUOTE(Squidward @ Jul 10 2012, 12:55 AM) Easy TS..In my hometown you can get Mee Hailam full of fishballs, fresh squid and prawns for only RM4..then there's Mee Rebus..Chicken Rice..Porridge for only RM2 per bowl..The best food cost nothing for me though..My mom used to cook Laksa and so many dishes and it was FREE for me Gosh now feel hungry again...salivating for no reason thinking of all the cheap food (which I honestly enjoy more than the RM300+ dinner for 2 I had at a fine dining establishment last week). Exotic/Expensive food not always the best tasting TS mom never give him home-cooked meal la I think..maybe for his family home cooking is too bourgeois This post has been edited by bl@ze: Jul 10 2012, 01:15 AM |

how many michelin starred restaurants are there in malaysia? zero?
most malaysians, including myself, have close to zero exposure to what good food actually is. even the shitty shitty shitty places that serve shitty shitty shitty food like pappa rich and old town are doing very good business and growing everyday. it just shows how poor us malaysians are at telling good food from bad. |

QUOTE(x p p @ Jul 10 2012, 01:14 AM) how many michelin starred restaurants are there in malaysia? zero? Michelin Guide does not cover the whole world..how to give star if they don't even have their critics here in the first place? most malaysians, including myself, have close to zero exposure to what good food actually is. even the shitty shitty shitty places that serve shitty shitty shitty food like pappa rich and old town are doing very good business and growing everyday. it just shows how poor us malaysians are at telling good food from bad. In any case I don't think our eateries will lose in terms of taste but if Michelin critic comes sure lose in terms of SERVICE (which I think is non-existent in Malaysia) This post has been edited by bl@ze: Jul 10 2012, 01:21 AM |
