HI TS,

i'm considering Asus K46M, just wonder is this the new model and how long it had been in the local market?
and do u have any recommended shop for Asus retailer? Or just get it from Harvey Norman or Seng Heng?
I dun think there are any offcial Asus direct retail stores right? all of them are thru distributor?
Another question is how many yrs of warranty carry by Asus and issit International or local warranty?

Thank You and really apprecaite ur hard work especially on the pricing thread, really do help folks around in making decision...keep up the good work rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

Hihi laugh.gif
Yeah, the K46 is so new that we are still quite confused about the naming of the models:
14"
[Ultrabook]K46CM-WX090V, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT635M@RM2099[2kg], 2GB, 500GB, 4-cell battery, W7HP, OD
[Ultrabook]S46CM-WX023V, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT635M + 24GB mSATA + 500GB HDD@RM2599[2kg], 4GB, W7HP

Its probably just out for less than a month I would say...
Any large shop will do, as long as they sell you a completed sealed (new) unit

Almost all Asus notebooks come with 2 years international warranty, this one included brows.gif

Thanks haha, I used to ask for the sifus here for help with laptop recommendations, now just paying back laugh.gif

Both Dell and Lenovo offers on-site warranty support of up to 3 years nod.gif Try to go for those (at a price, of course) for peace of mind nod.gif

Yeah, apparent Asus's warranty support is not doing too well at the moment...

For the Lenovo Y480, the RRP is:
Y480(5934-7549), i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT650M (GDDR5) @RM2599 [JBL], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), backlit keyboard, freeDOS, 2 yrs warranty, P950 headset
Y480(5934-1372), i7-3610QM + Nvidia GT650(GDDR5)@RM2699[JBL], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), backlit keyboard, W7HB, 2 years international warranty
You should be able to get around RM2380 for the FreeDOS version...

Well, if warranty coverage and support is important to you, then the 14R SE and Z480 would be good, using the rest of the money on warranty upgrade.
If specs are more important to you, then the Y480 brows.gif

You are right, the price difference just because of the different in 24GB mSATA is not worth it (unless there are other spec differences that I've missed out laugh.gif)
You might wanna save and upgrade to an SSD later on..
As for prices, it all depends on how good you bargain, its hard to say which shop will offer the cheapest price nod.gif

My advice is, try to opt for price discounts rather than free gifts, as most of the time the gifts are cheapo stuffs that doesn't last very long sad.gif

Yes, the Z480 comes with 2 years warranty. It has 2x USB3.0, and 2x USB2.0 .
Whether a laptop lasts or not depends on a little bit of luck, and on how good you take care of your laptop nod.gif
Personally I would go for the 14R SE because of the stronger GPU (same as Z480's) and the faster 7,200rpm HDD. But since you are not interested in that one, then the Z480 is the one to go for since you are in to gaming nod.gif
You'll find the keyboard a lot to like on Lenovo units laugh.gif

Well, the most important thing is to go for the laptop that you like the most nod.gif

As for promotions, it all depends on how you bargain with the shop people. Different shop will have different offers.
Some will be a lot better than the RAM upgrade you've mentioned brows.gif

Sorry but I do not know the details, I've tried to ask Lenovo Malaysia (FB) before and they just send me into their website which doesn't say much as well... the only way to know is to give them a call, or ask Lenovo dealers directly nod.gif

SSD is definitely worth it if you have the money to spare, the performance difference is very significant nod.gif
Do check with Lenovo sellers on the cost of warranty extension... I don't know sorry laugh.gif
*
oh ok...still very significant diff even when compared to 7200rpm? Any idea what's the cost of changing it to SSD then? Or can we do a combo on the y580?

Yeah, extremely big difference laugh.gif
I've switched from a 750GB (7,200rpm) HDD to an SSD haha
An 256GB SSD should be around RM700-800 I guess? I'm not very familiar with SSDs though, perhaps you can get better feedbacks from the SSD thread under Hardware nod.gif

Yeah, you should be able to replace the optical drive with an SSD/HDD as well
