Hi guys, need a laptop for gaming mainly. Looking for performance, reliability & light weight.

1. Preferred Brand - none

2. Budget - <rm3k

3. Usage - Gaming (dota2 and such)

4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 14 inch, 13-15 also ok if weight is reasonable.

5. Weight - <2.5kg

Was wondering if there's any ultrabook with dedicated graphic card that's worth getting?

So far, recommendation is the Lenovo IdeaPad Y480. Any feedback on Lenovo reliability? Or the model itself specifically? Needs laptop to last me 3-5 years. My previous one was acer aspire 4720G, lasted me 5 years. No complaints on it despite many others that's against Acer...

Whether an electronic product lasts long or not depends on a little bit of luck (Even the most reliable brands have bad apples from time to time) , and mostly on how you take care of your laptop (gaming laptops tend to be hotter and spoils faster, so it depends on how well you try to keep the temps in check) nod.gif

Yeah, the Y480 is the best pick now, and its not exactly very heavy. For peace of mind, do extend the warranty to 3 years on-site  rclxms.gif

There are ultrabooks with dGPUs, but none are as good as the Y480.. you're going to have to compromise on performance if you want something of lighter weight  sad.gif

Ic, any idea what is the weight for y480? Thx for the info!

Haha bro i also was also recommended the y480 by the sifus at this thread (thx TJ!). Its darn good. Feels solid and has some design cues rather than just a regular laptop. Although it comes with w7hb there are patches to unlock aero functionality. I'm enjoying it right now  thumbup.gif

Oh so u bought it? Rating out of 10? sorry noob here, what's aero for? Is the w7hb original with key? Any other negative side of it? Just want to prepare myself.

Thanks for the headsup notworthy.gif

No worries man. I'm not too sure myself. So just want to clear things up. Need to know though, is the SSD worth swapping with the 7200rpm for the price they costs and the sacrificed space? Also how much it cost for extending warranty?

SSD is definitely worth it if you have the money to spare, the performance difference is very significant nod.gif
Do check with Lenovo sellers on the cost of warranty extension... I don't know sorry laugh.gif

oh ok...still very significant diff even when compared to 7200rpm? Any idea what's the cost of changing it to SSD then? Or can we do a combo on the y580?

OK guys budget increased... so here goes...

1. Preferred Brand - none

2. Budget - 5-6k

3. Usage - Dota 2, HD movie, if can connect to hotel LCD to play games/ watch movie even better

4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 14/15

Hope to use it for next 3 years at least.

Prefer full HD, SSD if possible,

16gb RAM therefore w7HP is a must (if im not wrong)

Wondering if I upgrade/change SSD/RAM will my warranty be void?

GPU min GTX660m

Any suggestion how i can upgrade the cooling system?

Thank you guys! Appreciate your help!

Thx for the info! Am in a dilemma now...Are the ones on top significantly better than if i get the Lenovo y580 3630qm version, upgrade to 16gb ram, add 128gb SSD, which prob cost less than above? Are the LEnovo warranty voided if i upgrade?

GPU-wise, the GTX660m is not as good as the GTX670m... but since you have additional budget to go for a SSD, the overall experience will be faster nod.gif
It all depends on how much you want to spend nod.gif
Upgrading to SSD won't void your warranty generally~

If you intend to upgrade your laptop later on in the future, you might wanna go for those with a stronger GPU since most are not upgradable once you purchased it... the HDD you can upgrade later when you have the money

Thx for info. Erm, like i asked is the gtx670m significantly better than 660m since i have to pay rm2k more? Worth that amount? Or better to use that money upgrade to SSD, 16gb RAM and w7pro? Am I right that w7pro is needed for 16GB? Still not sure after some survey...
