Hi to all sifus,

I am considering to buy a new light notebook / ultrabook:

1. No specific brand. But i have experience with sony (not really bang for buck) and asus (overheating issues).
2. Budget : around rm 3.5k.
3. Usage : surfing, "torrenting", hd movie, autocadding & some gaming like Starcraft II & Diablo III.
4. Preference : full hd or ips screen type, 13" or 14" screen size, ssd only or combo ssd + 7200 rpm hdd & 1600 ram.

Really appreciate sifus recommendation.

Thx in advance.

13" notebooks with FullHD screens are mostly out of your budget apart from the Zenbook Prime (UX31).
14" notebooks mostly do not come with FullHD, only HD and HD+

Closest, can consider these:
13"
Asus [Ultrabook] UX31A-R4005V, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD + (1920 x 1080)@RM3499[1.3kg], 4GB, W7HP, IPS screen <-- running on ULV-processor, relatively weaker for your autocad and stuffs

14"
Dell
[Ultrabook]XPS 14, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT630M + 32GB SSD + 500GB(5400rpm) HDD + (1600x900)@RM3799[2.1kg], 4GB, 8-cell, backlit, spill resistant keyboard <-- running on ULV-processor, relatively weaker for your autocad and stuffs, over your budget

Sasmung 7 series chronos NP700Z3A, i5-2450M + AMD HD6490M + (1600x900 [14" matte][300nit])@RM3599[2.07kg], 6GB, 1TB, W7HP *13" chassis <--normal processor, normal HDD only

Sony Vaio SVE14A15FGB, i5-2450M + AMD HD7670M + (1600x900)@RM3099[2.3kg], 4GB, 640GB(5400rpm), W7HP <--normal processor, normal HDD only

hi! i wanna get a new laptop and i'm now comparing between lenovo y580 and dell inspiron 15r special edition. can anyone let me know the pros and cons?

is there any other recommendation, if any?

i'll be using for medium gaming, watching videos and do usual office work.

For your usage and medium-level gaming, the Inspiron 15R SE is already up to the task
BUt why settle for a 15R SE when you can already get a Y580 at that price?

Regardless of which laptop you go for, do remember to extend the warranty to 3 years on-site, would come in handy for a gaming machine
[/QUOTE]

oh ok thanks. got anything to say to persuade me not to buy y580 ah? wanna see if really worth it or not

After sales service? hmm.gif Thats gonna be a tad hard.

Can try these:

Dell Inspiron 15R (Special Edition), i7-3612QM + AMD HD7730M + (1920x1080; anti-glare) + 32GB SSD + 1TB HDD(5400rpm)@RM3199, 8GB,backlit keyboard optional (Can't play BF3 on high settings, best at low or mediocre at medium)
Asus N56Vz-S3088V, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT650M@RM2699[Bang&Olufsen], 4GB, 750GB, W7HP, subwoofer and backpack (Not much compliments from majority on after sales service)
Ideapad Y580, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GTX660M (2GB) + (1920x1080) + Bluray@RM3599[JBL], 8GB, 1TB HDD(5400rpm), W7HP, 2 years international warranty (Your best bet)

Whether its thin or light weight enough depends on you? laugh.gif
Here's the link to the specifications: http://www.dell.com/my/p/inspiron-14z-5423...en&s=dhs&~ck=mn

For PC, its better to opt for 3 years warranty for peace of mind hmm.gif
