how much??
*
what is your plan? if you dont mind staying in budget inn/dormitory, it really cheap, <3000yen per night. For cheap food, you can buy at their convenient store, taste not bad, it's cheap as what ronnie has mentioned.

Sometimes the japan railway can be a pain and tiresome, all those different lines / companies, different platforms, combinations, etc. especially in the big stations eg. shinagawa, tokyo, shibuya, etc.

Most important is to keep asking the locals / staff there for confirmation before making jumping ahead.
*
tiresome is true, because from 1 line to another line could be very far, eg, in tokyo station, from yamanote to the saikyo line where you wan to go disney is damn far. But the direction and map is easy to understand, keep a map with you and always look at the signboard, while you are waiting at the platform, you'll see a signboard stated what is the next station, just double confirm with your map. icon_rolleyes.gif

Stimix / Ah Wang,

Did you do the Hakone full circuit?
Odawara > Hakone-Yumoto > Gora > Sounzan > Togendai > Moto-Hakone

If yes, overnight? Did you purchase the free-pass?
Cant seem to find the price for the ropeway, ship and bus separately..
*
i did the full course as well by using the pass purchased from Odawara. Price for each track can be compare here, http://www.hakonenavi.jp/english/ticket/index.html
btw, i overnight there, you may also hop in to the bus to other places & return to hakone-yumoto & odawara.

Hakone freepass having discount from Jan 20th to Feb 28th 2013
4,100 Yen vs the original 5,000 Yen. You must hold a foreign passport to enjoy this special.
Can buy at Shinjuku and Odawara

http://www.odakyu.jp/english/news/sys/2012...020e131f7be.pdf
*
This discount seems like only offer for those who come from Shinjuku. What if we buy at odawara? original 3,900 yen got discount also?

Hakone during winter damn cool ~~ freezing man, during my visit, and it was snowing. flex.gif

last time i went to tokyo, i use my JR pass. but now feel dont want to buy it. is there any day pass for JR line and subway?? feel a bit confuse with a lot of pass..
*
JR pass is worth if you take round trip by shinkansen and travel long distance because the fee is based on the distance you travel. If you only focus in Tokyo, I dont see any pass will pay off your visit, stick with Suica is enough. If you are from Narita, take Nex + Suica package. There are some day passes for subway & metro as well, you may check thru their website, for hakone, please refer to the above.

so there is no specific day pass to cover all transport?
*
Where you want to go in tokyo? Cover only in Tokyo city or any side trip? You can refer to this, http://www.jnto.go.jp/eng/arrange/travel/p...nai_ticket.html
For Hakone, Hakone Free Pass for sure.

@stimix, i am thinking about stopping at the lake too (togendai) and then go back. How do you return from the late to Hakone-Yumoto, is there a direct bus? Also, from the lake at togendai (last station for the ropeway, are you able to view the red torii gate)?

@hot-choc, thank you for pointing this out..but too bad, going early march

@menmissed, thank you..this is what I am looking for biggrin.gif
*
are you saying the red torii gate on the water, Hakone Shrine? If yes, you wont see it at Togendai. That shrine located at Moto-hakone. There is a bus serve from Togendai to Sengora then transfer to Hakone Yumoto. refer here, http://www.hakonenavi.jp/english/traffic/map.html
Why dont you try the pirate ship? It's fun, you will cruise the lake ashi. When you buy hakone free pass, you will get a map (as above link) and a brochure, Remember to take the transport timetable as you can see the route of all transportation and time. You can get it here for your reference: http://www.hakonenavi.jp/traffic/in_access...f/timetable.pdf

Just realise that I somehow messed up and add 1 day extra to my itinerary, luckily airasia sent reminder on the optiontown thing and saw the date...omg!! have to cancel hotel reservation and re-book..wah, my travel partner will not be amused

haih...have to take out one day plan
*
Hakone is highly recommended for first timer to Japan. You can have a great view of Mt Fuji at Owakudani as well, of course kawaguchiko is much better due to proximity. 2D1N can cover both, but it will be rush and you need Fuji Hakone Pass. nod.gif

menmissed, that is some great info on hakone there..i am still trying to fit hakone back to my plan..my target would be onsen, volcano @ owakudani and yes the hakone shrine (torii gate)..just checked that kawaguchiko is too far for me  smile.gif
*
Many people said Hakone Kowakien Yunessun is best at Hakone. Seems like you have a tight plan that day, you have to start early in the morning from Shinjuku to Yumoto. Then catch the Tozan train to Gora, then take cablecar to Souzan, and ropeway to Owakudani. After that continue your ropeway to Togendai and take pirate ship to Moto-Hakone (2nd stop), walk to Hakone Shrine. You can enjoy onsen at Yumoto area, so it is more easy for you to get back to shinkuju.

I will check out Hakone Kowakien Yunessun  biggrin.gif yet to survey on onsen choices...that day will be reserved for hakone..roppongi not so important (might skip and walk around shinjuku instead after a long day at hakone).

Planning to take shinhansen from Tokyo Station to Odawara, and then train to Yumoto, return by Odakyu train. Will finalize hakone trip again after i settle central tokyo
*
since you going to buy hakone free pass, you can take odakyu train to hakone-yumoto from shinjuku.
I agree, you may skip roppongi in this case, you can go Shinjuku TMG observation desk if still early. Open from 9.30am-11pm, last entrance is 10.30pm. Or Tokyo tower, try to walk from Sakura-dori, you can catch some nice street photo with Tokyo tower at background. thumbup.gif

yeah, that is another option..but leaning on trying bulllet train once for experience.

i am intesreted with this sakura-dori..at ginza correct

thank you for your help..you seem to be very well versed with tokyo  thumbup.gif
*
hmm.. you may plan first, if you want to go shinjuku at night, then return by Odakyu. If you intends to visit Tokyo tower, take Shinkansen from Odawara to Shinagawa or Tokyo.
errm.. no, you wont see Tokyo Tower from Ginza. There are 2 station you can stop by for Tokyo tower, 1 is Akabanebashi station on Toei Subway Oedo Line, this station close to TT. If you wan to go Sakura-dori, take Toei Akakusa Line to Mita station, then walk to north, you will walk along sakura-dori and TT just in front of you.
All of this are from my own experience and research. I just came back from Japan early this month.

Just to share/for your info, this is based on my visit. Tokyo sunset view from Daiba is Superb!! The view will have Rainbow bridge and Tokyo Tower at the back, surrounding by some buildings and Sumida river. Really nice. thumbup.gif

Actually, nothing much in Togendai. Just the last stop fro the ropeway down from the summit i.e Owakudani. The rd gate is located in another area.

You can't see mt Fuji from Togendai - That's my silly mistake! I shou;d have end my jpurney at the 1000m Summit of the Volcan crater famus for the black eggs..Here is the best way taking the best view of Mt Fuji. NOT Togendai.

If you want to see Mt Fuji from Lake Ashi shore.. yeah you need to goto the red gate area (I can;t remember the name liao and in order to go there, you need to take either the bus or ferry from the last stop -Togendai.

I decided not to go there once I reach Togendai knowing that I already can't see Mt Fuji from the top ~ 1pm-- All so hazy..
*
Actually not at the red torii gate, lake Ashi's Fuji viewpoint is located at Onshi Hakone Park, where the Hakone Detached Palace is. At the park, there will have a signboard "芦ノ湖と富士山の眺望が良い". Strong wind there, be careful of your hat, scarf,... handsome hairstyle. cool2.gif
If you take the pirate ship, you will see Fuji at your back before arrival at Hakone-machi.
Pls refer to Hakone Free Pass brochure for more info.

stimix, you cant see from togendai, but on your ropeway from owakudani you should able to see it (if not foggy). Pay a second visit then, this time to Kawaguchiko. icon_rolleyes.gif

Hi, if I purchase the Hakone Freepass at Odawara Station (3900 yen), can I use it for the Hakone Tozan Railway to Hakone-Yumato?

http://www.hakonenavi.jp/english/freepass/index.html

I ask this because the Freepass price is the same regardless whether it is purchase from Odawara or Hakone-Yumato:

http://www.odakyu.jp/english/freepass/hakone_01.html

Fyi, Odawara to Hakone-Yumato trio cost 300 yen, so it's 600 yen return.

Thanks  smile.gif

Yes, bro, it's included.

Enjoy your trip.
Btw, your plan looks just nice. There are also some other places you would like to visit if you have spare time.
eg, Shibuya Crossing is just a zebra crossing, There are plenty of fashion shops and shopping center. Shibuya 109, Hachiko statue, Center Gai,..

For your asakusa and Ueno day, you can spend your night time at the latest Tokyo Skytree. Nice spot for photograph is the near to Asakusa Toei Subway station, the riverside. You will see the Asahi building as well. Since you go Shinjuku TMG, you may skip going up tokyo skytree. City view more or less the same ma... right? sweat.gif

Recommend you do Disney whole day. Start from 9am until the night performance (must see! It's brilliant), pls check the schedule. During my visit, there is one at 5.30pm. You may buy the ticket at Disney counter, there is 1 located at Takashimaya Times Square, so that you can skip the queue and get your first ride early. Remember to use your fast pass, you're allow to use once.

anything to add? let me think.. hmm.gif

hehe, thanks for all the tips..yeah, I already plan to view the Skytree and asahi beer building as i walk along sumida river..maybe not go up Skytree as there is entrance fee ( tongue.gif ) so sticking to TMJ.

i have similar thinking that my Asakusa/Ueno day is pretty 'empty', so I am adding Ginza and may even throw Tokyo Tower there..this will depend on how long we want to spend Ueno Park/National Museum.

Yup, I have relocated TMJ to day 3 after I return from Hakone as per your suggestion  biggrin.gif just ngam.

No real target at Shibuya so that's why i just put the crossing so that it doesnt look empty hehehe, mostly it will be shopping + walking + eating randomly free and easy.

You are good. I have actually revised my Disney day to one full day too  laugh.gif I am getting the ticket at the welcome center when I checked in my luggage. The disney monorail is Y250 per trip  sweat.gif I am targeting Journey to Center of the Earth ride  flex.gif

Last day is kinda free so now thinking wanna go Odaiba  wub.gif

Some rough budget allocation so far (~RM3000):
Accomodation 5N - RM800
Disneysea - RM230
Meal 5D - RM500
Train - RM250
Hakone/Shinkansen - RM280
Souvenir - RM1000

Add flight + miscellanous, should be about RM4500  sweat.gif
*
Souvenir - RM1000 ???
Odaiba is a nice place! not only the sunset view, you can go Gundam Front as well. In your list, you still have Akihabara, you will spend more time there for sure. A lot of things to see, especially the 5 & 6 storey sex toy shop, haha... cool!
