QUOTE(little ice @ May 19 2013, 11:23 PM) i tried jalan.net, and those listed hotels seems more expensive than what i got from booking.com...there're some hotels still charging only 5% tax instead of 15%. do compare with their hotel booking website, sometimes they have offer for early booking, which is much more cheaper than any other website, especially if u stay more nights. |

QUOTE(little ice @ May 20 2013, 06:08 PM) i picked a few, compared to their own web booking, still showing booking.com is cheaper. I see. Good to have research before making decisions. i remembered last time i booked my hotel in shinjuku prince hotel, their website got early book offer and min stay 3 nights, which was cheaper than any one else. Lucky me.i went to try out the english, cannot understand wall of japanese texts... regarding pay later and free cancellation (before certain date), booking.com also the same, just give credit card number and that's it. i used booking.com during my last visit at march and i only pay full payment upon check in. i even use my debit card and it went through during online booking lol... i think shouldn't be cheap, my visit during march was like RM3k for 2 ppl flying AA (MAS was RM4k+) as i booked the flight like end of last year. but definitely no where near as expensive as year end during x'mas and new year. haha, cheap ticket must book EARLY & FASTER than others. depends on luck |

QUOTE(kyenli @ May 21 2013, 01:32 AM) Planning to stay near Tsukiji Market so that don't need to hire a taxi. Any recommendation? Saw one member mentioned APA hotel but it's out of my budget. Anything less than RM300 for a room for 2? Do you mind taking subway? You can try this, Sotetsu Fresa Inn Hamamatsucho only RM280/night for 2. Surrounding with convenient stores, walking distance to Tokyo Tower, walking distance to Subway, Monorail & JR staitons. Easy access to shinjuku, asakusa, tsukiji market, haneda airport, and JR stations. |

QUOTE(gpk6558 @ May 29 2013, 09:07 AM) Thanks for the information. If my plan is to visit around Kansai area only (likely to go around Osaka, Kyoto and Nara), is it advisable to stay in one hotel in Osaka only? To travel around the areas mentioned, what would be the best transport mode? Train or Bus? If it is train, can I or should I book now online? Roughly what would be the cost as we are on tight budget. if you like the vibrant & busy city, osaka lo. If you are going to relax and enjoy, kyoto is best. personally i will choose kyoto. you always can take the train go to osaka, it just 15mins.QUOTE(estcin @ May 29 2013, 09:43 AM) Osaka expensive. U should stay in Kyoto cheaper. Can buy 1-day bus pass in Kyoto at the bus terminal outside Kyoto station youre right. in kyoto, buy the 1-day Bus pass, best is if you can combine with train/subway, some route is not convenient if only travel by bus and it's wasting time. You may also consider Kansai Thru Pass, depends on your schedule. Do your own maths and compare. |

QUOTE(lowyatter @ May 30 2013, 10:34 AM) One pax, economy. Flying to Haneda and leaving from Narita (I would have preferred to fly from Haneda as well but the cheap tickets don't really give you a choice) where you plan to visit in tokyo? only focus in kanto? If you leave on Wed/Thur the tickets can be as low as RM1400. AAX is also around RM2500-RM3000 return. |

QUOTE(lowyatter @ May 30 2013, 11:17 AM) This is just a short trip (5 days) so not planning on seeing that much. I've also been to Tokyo quite a few times before, so won't be spending much time in Tokyo itself. i see. my plan is next year cherry blossom. still duno where to go. Been to osaka, nara, kyoto, hakone & tokyo last year autumn. Definitely seeing: Nikko and Kamakura Maybe seeing: Hakone +Fuji-Q Highland + Fuji Five Lakes now im planning 10 days trip, dunno how to cover. lake kawaguchiko is always in my list. fly in NRT, from tokyo to kawaguchiko, from kawa to nagoya is hard, then to kyoto, fly out KIX. |

QUOTE(lowyatter @ May 30 2013, 11:34 AM) You've seen most of the major sites, why not try Nagano region? Matsumoto, Takayama, Shirakawago and Kamikochi are all very interesting and worth seeing. Actually my initial plan is included Matsumoto, Takayama, Shirakawago and Kamikochi, after that i find out the travelling cost for these area is expensive, and limited train. This time i go to see sakura, different spot from autumn trip. Planning to cover Tokyo, kawaguchi, nagoya, kyoto, osaka, yoshino, kobe,... kansai area.QUOTE(estcin @ May 30 2013, 11:41 AM) I also wish to go Hiroshima & Miyajima. too far and must arm JR pass only worth for the trip. |

QUOTE(lowyatter @ May 30 2013, 02:39 PM) If you're travelling around Nagano, then renting a car is quite affordable assuming you are travelling with other people. is that consider cheap for you? well, i wont drive there la, a lot of traffic lights. lol.. train & subway faster.Nissan Latio cost around 7000JPY per day. Pick up from Nagano. QUOTE(estcin @ May 30 2013, 02:55 PM) i go early of april for 10 days. will start from tokyo to kansai. can catch the time i guess. |

QUOTE(deodorant @ May 31 2013, 08:34 AM) Tokyo and Kansai area generally has the same weather and therefore has the same blooming time. This year I arrived in Osaka 6th April and the petals were already starting to fall. wa... so early fall d? i plan to go next year also same timing leh... shit! But, it depends right? QUOTE(lowyatter @ May 31 2013, 09:04 AM) Consider cheap if got 4 people. i see. no choice lo. My last decision is focus Kansai only. tokyo next time bah..Bus from Matsumoto to Takayama already 2500 yen 1 way. Oh, and train is much slower than car in Nagano region because of all the mountains, no direct routes a lot of the time. |

QUOTE(climacool @ Jun 1 2013, 05:46 PM) Hi, I'll staying in Shijuku and plan to visit Hakone..I see frm the map and its quite far...How long to take to travel to Hakone by JR? I think i need to spent whole day there including return to my hotel.. From Shinjuku, about 2 hrs. If take Romancer limited express is faster. for JR, you have to go Shinagawa (20 mins), take Shinkansen to Odawara. 30 mins only.Whether is 1 day or 2 days, it is better for you to buy the Hakone Free Pass for this trip. Worth and easy. |

Anyone can recommend me an onsen ryokan in osaka/kyoto/kobe/nagoya? or maybe just a ryokan.
During my last visit i only stayed in the capsule ryokan, which is for the budget purposes. I would like to try the real exp in a ryokan (esp. onsen type) , which some of that included jap meal & trying kimono suit. Anyone can share? |

QUOTE(kopikui @ Jun 2 2013, 05:30 PM) http://www.motonago.com/en/top.html i checked on this ryokan, is it convenient? I will stay 5-7 days in Kyoto & Osaka. will spare 1 n half day at nagoya and another 1 day at kobe. Looking for an onset ryokan to try on.Stayed at Gion during my stay in 2011 -abt RM600 each pax, a butler tatami bed+bbf+kaiseki dinner. A butler will be assigned to you upon check-in. Experience the japanese bath in a truly traditional environment, if you like their culture Kyoto is the best choice! . In Osaka, a homestay is more suitable, you can rent a room around Nijo station, normally occupied/own by a young couple who speaks English, so sharing information is easy. QUOTE(zstan @ Jun 2 2013, 08:29 PM) i booked this ryokan for my osaka stay For Osaka, im thinking to stay around Namba or Umeda for better access to other places like kobe, wakayama, yoshinoyama or kyoto.. But that area dun have ryokan. Maybe i will stay in hotel ba.. for a better spot of osaka city night view.http://www.tripadvisor.com.my/Hotel_Review...ki.html#REVIEWS havent tried it yet though but it looks really nice and cheap Is it recommended to overnight at Arima Onsen, Kobe? or Nagoya? |
