Guys. Im planning to get a Labtop next month. I'm In love with the G55 but it seems tooooo bulky! However i came across this Y580. It's almost the same specs, Better otherwise (Ram and 7200rpm), and it's also lighter ( Bout 1kg lighter ) !

What do you all suggest? I'm okay with both of the price smile.gif.

No noticeable different betw the 2 procs in normal use.
Yes, can swap HDD with SSD & put HDD in ODD bay with caddy without warranty void. use ODD as external drive.
Remember to swap it back to original when warranty claim.

Suggest to get the older model Y480 i7-3610QM, freeDOS spec below & selling around 23XX in garage sales if still available. thumbup.gif
Y480(5934-1116), i7-3610QM + Nvidia GT650M (GDDR5) @2599[JBL], 4GB(1600mhz), 500GB(5400rpm), backlit keyboard, freeDOS, 2 yrs warranty, free P950 headset

Else you can also consider new Y580 FHD spec below selling as low as 2800 in garage sale.
Y580 come with much better full HD screen, GTX660M, bigger 15" screen & numpad and better cooling is very worthy. brows.gif
Y580(59-346843), i7-3630QM + Nvidia GTX660M (GDDR5) + 1920x1080 @2999[JBL], 4GB(1600mhz), 500GB(5400rpm), W7HBasic, backlit keyboard, 2 yrs warranty. P950 headset

I had the same problem,i tried looking for drivers but cant find any. For me, it just worked itself out. Worst case scenario, you have a lenovo hard drive partition, down there should have a driver for it.

This Broadcom wireless adapter is not listed at all in the Y580 support website. The current Broadcom driver on the laptop dated back to late 2011 & is causing frequent unregconized wireless default gateway problem (common with Windows 7 on outdated drivers).

I hoped Lenovo Malaysia or the dealers themselves did not shortchange us for changing the wireless adapter to Broadcom

Y580 Broadcom BCM4313 is also a lousy adapter. Can only max out at 72mbps. Whereas my 4.5 years old Intel 4965abgn can sustain at 144mbps without any problem.

If you guys found out a way how to upgrade to the Intel 6xxx series WLAN card with BT4.0, please let me know ah.
