Anyone know the model number for Macbook Pro 17'' 2011?
I know we can view the number from the bottom of the macky. The problem is I dont have one in hand now.

Like for instance: A1278 is for Macbook Pro 13 2010.

A kind reply will appreciated the most.

Before I booked my Macbook Pro Retina Display, I seriously considered alternative Windows Notebook.
The truth is those Windows notebook closer to MBP RD specs with 16Gb RAM, discrete graphic card, 2.6ghz Intel Chip with 256GB SSD are hard to come by. Those closer to these specs will end up being too heavy and chunky like Lenovo Y580, Alienware....
And most of the windows Notebook screen is still up to 1080p only.

I wonder why all the HP, Dell, Samsung, Asus, Acer, Lenovo do not produce slim, light, good looking notebook with high specs like MBP Retina Display.

Yes, agreed. There is nothing that can match the rMBP in value in the market now. Those that complain of the rMBP being 'expensive' are just saying that they don't have such a budget (above RM 6k), and they start to say all sorts of reasonings to make themselves feel better (I know a few friends who are like this! LOL).

We might see the other laptop manufacturers soon implementing similar specs with the rMBP, but for them to do it in such a sweet package like the rMBP (with crazy-wafer thinness, unimaginable light-weight, unibody & glass construction, triple-display output, etc.) is going to take them a considerably LONG time. brows.gif

QUOTE(llsphinxll @ Sep 25 2012, 09:42 AM)
well it kinda depends on your budget to begin with, den would be your preference. cant exactly say, if you need windows, or if you dont 'need' to use OSx den you shud get a windows laptop.

apple has a way of getting people wanting their product, based on the way they link one product to another: airplay etc.

and there is always the OSx experience which i personally think has much better user interface and more intuitive than windows.

specs wise, apple laptop doesnt exactly lose out that much with the same amount of money you are paying. if you are someone that cares too much of what is written on paper (spec list) rather than how it performs, den perhaps you are abit blinded.

In fact, Macbooks do not lose out at all. Take for example, the MacBook Air 13". The Windows-equivalent laptop such as the Asus Zenbook has much worse features / build / spec for the same price. In this respect, we can say Asus is expensive and Apple's offering is cheap! thumbup.gif

I do wish sometimes that Mac OS X crib some of the functions from Windows.

And eliminate some of the more cumbersome functions from OS X.

i think the MBA 13" nearest competitor is Samsung Series 9.
with exact specs as the 128GB MBA, but retailing above RM4000
obvious choice would be the MBA biggrin.gif

Bought my rmbp, ended up with the 2.6 and 512 ssd version. Performance is generally great however with autocad and opening dwg files is very slow compare to my windows rig with lower spec and it sometimes crashes anyone else having this issue?

I carry my rMBP when I go shopping for the whole day with my wife, and don't feel tired too. The 2 KG weight is still very bearable to me, but not so much for my previous cMBP at 2.5 KG. sweat.gif

Agreed. After using the rMBP, the MBA's screen will look like a defected screen. tongue.gif

Oh, that is worrisome.

I just ordered a MacBook Pro Retina display. Will use Autocad too. From your feedback, looks like it is laggy for Autocad?

Is yours 8GB or 16GB RAM?

Nothing beats Retina MacBook Pro at the moment.
