For precise focusing, use "Focus Tracking". There's an icon on the LCD screen. Very good.
RX100 is darn good in lowlight. I've taken some really dark photos and they turned out well (handheld btw).
I also like Superior Auto and Intelligent Auto. Very good for day to day use.
Focus tracking is very slow on cdaf cameras like the RX100 and don't work well with multiple subjects or when subject is moving towards you.RX100 is darn good in lowlight. I've taken some really dark photos and they turned out well (handheld btw).

Center focus is always the fastest and most reliable since the camera don't need to make any decision.
Example:
1) If shooting a posed photo when you wanna put your subjects on the side. Half press shutter on the subject, when beep... hold the shutter button and just recompose how you like. It's much faster than the camera making the wrong decision and focussing on other things then have to keep on re-pressing the shutter.
2) Or when an excited puppy or 4 yo kids running towards you.... all the other AF modes won't reliably track this. Just aim the center AF box to an object or space, half press shutter and click when puppy/kid reached that object/space that you pre-focussed earlier.
