Have you guys seen Sherlock Holmes: A game of shadows.
For patrons who have, Do you remember specifically the scene where Sherlock and co. were running away from the german army? There seem to be this particular effect where the director capture their running and maintained the actors positioning while the background move. How do they do that? |

Hi, i'm a very very budget student (lol) and new to videography. Am very interested in producing video, been reading up some cinematography books lately.
anyone know any offer for slider? or some DIY like what lpyycy mentioned? my gears are Nikon D90. I tested the video function, the exposure they set auto I guess. Don't have manual override. Which is a sad case. |

I'm new too. I own a Lumix GF3 but its pretty much collecting dust if I'm not travelling etc. Used a Nikon D50 before.
So I'm taking this interest to utilize the camera from wasted. Still loads to read. First purchase would be the stabilizer as its the most practical use to me. Gonna start with travel vlog etc. Then I'll pursue other genres. Any tips for taking travel videos? |

travel photos - zoom lens with IS, and practice steady holding.
anyway peeps, no need think so much about sliders and stabilizers first. even a tripod alone can work wonders if you know how to plan your video. |

There is someone here in the garage sales, selling a 4 feet slider for RM550. Quite a good deal. Its used.anyone know any offer for slider? or some DIY like what lpyycy mentioned? my gears are Nikon D90. I tested the video function, the exposure they set auto I guess. Don't have manual override. Which is a sad case. If your good at using power tools, then you may proceed with DIY. but it will be hard. I've tried it twice. About D90, IMO its auto exposure, same like 500D i guess. QUOTE(jloi @ May 10 2012, 04:22 PM) External microphone, if your budget is not a problem, get the RODE Mic / Rode mic Pro / Zoom H1 or H4N.There is also a cheap external mic selling in garage sales that come with a hotshoe mount. |

The cheapest and good external mic at the moment would be the Zoom H1.
I'm planning to get the Zoom H2n which is few 100s more but still quite affordable. |

But then, I'll be using my GF3, it doesnt have external jack. So I have to get a separate recorder mic. I need it to record sound aswell. By the way, added another 60D with manfrotto fluid head 701HD for my slider. |

@Goldfries, nice & creative video you make there. It give me some rough ideas too.
Talking about external mics, yes the zoom is also good. For a start, invest on zoom H1. Costs less than RM400 and Zoom H4N costs more than 1k i think. |
