OMAI~~~Thanks for sharing some tips. I would agree with the socks rule of thumb.

Same goes to the tie. Wearing tie with cartoon designs is a definite NO. It will kill yu off instantly.

Hi Joey! No prob on that one XD

Guys with cartoon ties are no-no? I see... but if they're gonna work in entertainment/ media/ design/ fashion related industry I think it's okay?

Advises here mostly apply for the average industries. I always seem to think those who work in design/ fashion industry should wear flaunting clothes for interview laugh.gif just my assumption/ POV, could be wrong!

Ladies shouldn't wear shoes that's difficult to take off coz if you do, it'll take you minutes trying to take it off and putting it back afterwards (in companies that requires taking off shoes). Wouldn't want the staff/ interviewer to wait for you (for a long time) before you can take them off or put it back. It'll cause an awkward silence at times.

hi All,

My advice particularly for IT positions would be:
Basic preparations:
a) Prepare documents
- Resume
- Certificates (original and photocopy)
- 3 months payslips ((original and photocopy)
-passport size photo x 2
- IC (original and photocopy)
-Recommendation letter/ References from past employer (if have)

Other preparations:
Some hr personnel did not mention or left out the test part, they might have forgotten to inform the candidate, so on the first call for interview make sure you have enough information like:
a) Is there a test required during the interview?
- what type of test, multiple choice or written
- Is it going to be a aptitude test or technical test
- how long the test is required to complete
Questions above enable you to better prepare before attending interview and really makes a lot of different
e.g i)you might want to do some research on types of sample of technical or even aptitude test.
ii) and also apply 1 day leave in steady of half day if the test gonna be long.

b) Location of the interview
- be sure of the interview location
- be punctual
Information above allows your journey there smooth and safe.

c) Interviewer
- politely ask whether the interviewer with HR or the Hiring Manager ( technical guy)
- name of the interviewer
Also information above gives you more clear picture who you'll be interview with and who to look for.

Hmm..guess that's all for now..I'll top up if i left out anything smile.gif

Hope i share some tips here. Best of luck those who going for interview.

Cheers
Tracy

Well... you can do it in a way that... makes it look like you're 'informing' them beforehand on the existent of such bond you have with your current company. It wouldn't be nice if they found out on later part and you'd like to come clean of your ties.

Don't say anything more unless they asked you further/ offer to pay the bond for you. Don't beat around the bush, employers do not like (future) employees who drops such hint.

just wondering did any of you guys come across this situation. i have requested to attend an interview and there will have 3 technical tests; sql, unix and c. but i have a good c++ background, don't hv any experience in sql and unix. the hr know about it but she asked me to try my best for the 2 tests. i total in shock, i know we should prepare well for the technical side, but no for a new skills? i'm trying to learn from the basic, but there's quite a lot things need to learn for sql and unix.. any advice for this situation? thanks...

If its more towards technical, it would probably like this:-

SQL = selection query, basic stored procedure, join query (left or right join)

Unix = simple commands like to list (ls), directory (dir), chmod, chown,..

If more knowledge, better check what the product their using like SQL server fundamental, HP-UX, Solaris, IBM-AIX...

I hope this can help you a little....

I got an interview before that keep drilling you on other jobs you are applying.

Not sure why they keep asking that?

I guess they are curious about it. for one, they could be wondering whether you're aiming to apply for which specific industry/ line/ position etc. Some interviewers can be really persistent. If you're uncomfortable bout it, simply tell them you'd rather keep it confidential.
