QUOTE(Joey Christensen @ Jul 10 2009, 10:01 AM)
It's not copy and paste, yu nincompoop!

If it could not be attained, yu can come up with, contingency plans, diversification of planning, and if yu are in the managerial position, this would be a testing ground for the interviewer to test your capability to act in such situation.

QUOTE(ahjames @ Jul 10 2009, 10:16 AM)
we ask that crap all the time, its just part of our script/procedure.

u are missing the point, u are telling them "i wish to continue to be able to be of value to u in 5 yrs time"

if they ask u back "what if u cannot achieve, we terminate u?"
then u should answer them in a way u see fit, but not arrogant or rude.

"i am confident that i can achieve them. in the event of no achievement, i shall consult the management on how to remedy the situation"

joey is rite. if cannot achieve, do contingency. not resign/terminate. pariah question from interviewer during interview goes to show wat type of company they are, havent hire u alredi wanna fire u.

i come across an interview which ask me such question and maybe the way i reply not satisfying them ... they said if im that excellent in job, then i might conquer their position in 5 years time, aint that dangerous in hiring me sweat.gif

most interviewer wont answer that question directly if they have few candidates. most they will say is "we will call u if u r shortlisted". seldom ppl will say "u got d job", mostly also "i will make strong recommendation"

personelly i prefer not to ask.

Yu have quite a stud there. It's your call. Anyway, like "ahjames" have mentioned, they'll most probably won't answer yu in a direct way. As an interviewer, I would say, "yu'll be notified if yu are shortlisted". It's a standard answer actually.

Regards, Joey

Depending on the person interviewing you. If it's a different person from the first interview, expect some repeat questions from session 1 and also more technical questions (for Tech position) while more management questions for managerial positions. Sorry that I didn't bother to flip through the previous page to read abt it.

All in all, good luck!

I'm sort of desperate d. The manager called & had phone interview for me, so i asked him whether my chances are high or not, he said it's a 50-50 chance.. sad.gif Sigh..have to wait for him to contact me again for a face2face interview.

OrcaGal,

As a professional practice, you should never ever ask what your chances of being hired are, even though it is a natural reaction for most people. In my newbie years, I have committed that very same error myself and often with detrimental effects. I later learned from top recruitment agencies around the world (from my research), that very same question you asked is what might reveal enough about you to them to make a judgment. More often than not, the judgment will not be in your favor.

Asking what your chances are reveals 2 things about you:

1. You are not confident in securing the job, and that even if you do get it you are just "lucky".

2. You are desperate for a job, which means that you either do not have alternatives or have been rejected by others. In either case, they will renegotiate the contract with you and attempt to offer less than what you're worth or completely reject you on the grounds that there is a reason why others did the same.

To top up James' comment,

Even if it is 99-1, the manager still won't tell you much unless he's a complete buddy outside work. The reason being that nobody wants to be responsible in the event that they give you good news initially only to find out the reverse later on.

how to answer this question:

what do u see ur in 5 years? /what is ur life goals?

should I tell the truth or just give textbook answer.

1. the truth -- u will be seen as too ambitious, will leave company very soon, waste money to train
2.textbook answer -- not ambitious at all.

Well usually a long sleeve looks more professional on men, regardless of any job interview. And a candidate would want to look professional despite the clothing is suitable or not.

So I'd suggest you stick to long sleeve. Maybe the one you possess doesn't suit you. You can try other long sleeves with simple lines or light coloured ones instead of dark coloured top.

What's the truth? Try telling us first XD
And what's your textbook answer?

Everyone's textbook answer is presumably different.

First thing first, do you go for the interview because you simply needed a job? If that's the case, might as well give them an asnwer they want to hear.

If you really wanted the job (bcoz you desire for it) then your answer must be related with the job/ industry somehow or rather, then u have no issue.

What's the problem? Maybe u can elaborate and let us know... otherwise no one can help you coz we dunno what's the issue here.

Normally they will only tell you 'which' company once you agreed to go for the interview and the other company agreed to meet up with you.

Don't worry, if they don't tell you what company it is, how can you get there?

If you want some hints before saying yes or no, ask the headhunter company for:

1) location (ask them to be more specific)
2) nature of biz
3) responsibility of your position
4) SME or MNC or public listed comp
5) Numb of staffs etc

You can actually obtain some first hand info and altho they could not reveal the comp name, you can tell from their answer that whether it's roughly something you want or otherwise.

If in doubt, just go for the interview. You'll never know...

Don't worry bout it. Blazers and whatnot isn't necessary (unless you're going for the interview in the managerial line). Anything that goes along the line of formality should be fine. If you're in doubt (of the blazer), just wear it. Better be armed than not.

One more thing to point out that I often forget to say:

Men: Please DO NOT wear TORN SOCKS!

Ladies: Please DO NOT wear TORN STOCKINGS!

You may think it's fine because you're wearing a shoe on the outside... but what if the company requires you to take off your shoes before going in to the office? I have personally been to a number of such companies (and good thing I took precautions by wearing new stockings) and it's no laughing matter. Imagine the embarrassment you'll feel due to the stockings =__=|| so pls take note on this one.
