First time doing some reading on dryers. After going through few pages, seems like the case is:

- Price & energy efficiency wise,
Vented < condenser < heat pump

- separated washer and dryer is better than 2-in-1

- Electrolux no last long for many people

By the way sifus, if let’s say electricity and energy efficiency is not a priority, but budget and reliability is, I should just go ahead with vented dryer right?

Would condenser type be more reliable than vented type?

What brand would be best bang for the buck besides Electrolux?

The heatpump version costing RM3.5k one? Im using it. So far so good.
Every time use, you need to release the water in the water tank and also you need to clean the lint. All in is 1 minute job.
Full load drying time.
Mixed fabric = 1.5hour
Cotton = 2.5hour

most avoid combo because the extra long drying time

like my case TWD-BM105GF4M. close to 4 hour if under normal wash n dry cycle. Good is dont need to manual transfer laundry. Hassle is to wait

Imagine u back at 7pm (Typical).. wait till 11am to finish (if fast), 12am finish folding clothes

i am consider to separate to reduce the time if possible or i can at least run the washer and dryer together for two diff load

I own the 9kg model. Get warranty extension if you could, just to have peace of mind.

My Electrolux EDH3497RDW 9kg heat pump dryer is still going strong at its 8/9 years of service.

Result is also still perfect without issue.

Electrolux 9kg dryer's motor always spoil. Bearing sound, too often. So just stay away from that model, unless you get 5 yr warranty coverage.

As for consumption, if RM5/usage. If average you use 1 time every day for a month you'd be paying RM150 just for dryer. I think it's not too bad. But if self service laundry is cheaper, maybe can consider that option for the trade off of convenience.

anyone used vented dryer before? i read some review that it is better than condenser and heat pump in term of drying time

but how about the exhaust routing? i suppose it has 2 duct, one for draining the water and another for the heated air? if i'm staying in condo do i need to have a dedicated duct for the heated air?

Have a 6 years old vented dryer.

Speed ...debatable these days. Condenser for sure slowest of the three. Modern heat pumps get very close to Vented dryers nowadays but price also 4 to 5 times the price of a vented dryer.

Exhaust pipes aren't necessarily needed, majority of vented dryers in Malaysia usually will have literal vents in the front (see circled part in image)

But there are vented dryers that have back vents and that will usually need an exhaust duct (example: the well-known and reliable Toshiba TD-H80SEM, can see here: https://youtu.be/xDUWQWKg3k0 )

This also means that if you don't have a yard and you don't get exhaust pipes, you'll get hot air pumped into the house.

My condo has a covered yard area and I usually have to close the yard door when the dryer is running to prevent the heated air going in the main unit.

If your condo is the kind with no yard and cannot route exhaust pipes outside, it's recommended to use heat pump or condenser dryers.

Just go for heat pump which is more energy efficient and result of the drying is better as well. It uses lower temperature air so it will better for clothes too.

Of course it is more ex for sure.

For those vented dryer that has vent at the front does it vent the hot air into the yard? Or the vented air isn't really hot so no exhaust duct is needed?

My condo has a closed yard with 3 piece sliding window, now I bought a cloth hangar with heater fan, if it is not good for my needs then maybe we'll consider to add a dryer, heat pump is just too expensive, condenser drying is quite bad since I've tried it before in overseas hotel apartment

In my opinion and tolerance, it's honestly not THAT hot, compared to Malaysian heat wave 😂 about on par with having a low/mid-heat hairdryer constantly blowing at low speed settings when the dryer is on. But I am also an outdoorsy type so I have no issues with heat as long as there's airflow, you might feel differently.

I've done other chores in my dry kitchen while the dryer is going and keeping the windows and doors of the yard open, no problems for me.

Since your yard has windows, a vented dryer more than sufficient if you can't afford the upfront cost.

Just bear in mind that vented are power inefficient and the heated air may also cause air-conditioning to run inefficiently if you're trying to keep condo cool at the same time with aircon.

Thanks for the feedback, I think yard heat up shouldn't be an issue since I have doors and partition between kitchen and the crosswind in my condo seems to come from balcony to yard
