Have you tried running it as administrator mode? Right click absinthe and choose run as administrator or something like that.

Sorry noob here ...pls shed some light

Current version iphone 4S 5.0.1 Jail broken

How do i go about getting 5.1.1 JB?

The thing is i did backup my phone before I jb 5.0.1 last time BUT i reformatted my computer .Hence, i lost the backup.

please  icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif

Then just backup your current phone again via iTunes. Connect your iPhone to iTunes, transfer all your purchases (right hand click on the iPhone icon and choose transfer purchases). Once that is done, right hand click on the iPhone icon again and choose Backup.

Before doing the jailbreak (follow the guide in post #1), check the iPhone tabs in iTunes (Apps, Music, etc) and see if you want to sync them or not.

Do the jailbreak once that is done.

Currently using IP4s jb version 5.01 (9A405). Should I upgrade my software to 5.1.1 then only Jb using Absinthe 2.0? Any link on the step by step. Thanks.
*
Absinthe requires you to be on 5.1.1 if you want to be jailbroken on 5.1.1 so you need to download te firmware file for 5.1.1 or update the iPhone via iTunes.

Follow the guide from post #1 on how to jailbreak and also the links for the firmware files.

hey thanks ..but for all my cydia tweaks /apps it will still be there after jb?

No. Your jailbreak will be wiped clean after you upgrade to 5.1.1

Most of us here kept a list of our tweaks and we redownload them one by one. It's a pain in the ass but what to do.

upgrade to official apple firmware 5.1.1 then jailbreak it??

Yes. Do a fresh restore by downloading the firmware file and jailbreak.

if my phone is jailbroken on 5.0.1 ..can update via itunes? i check 1st post dont have this information

I personally would recommend you downloading the firmware file for 5.1.1 and then use the Shift + Restore button to do a fresh restore. That is usually how I do it.

Post # 1 should have all the necessary links for Absinthe (whatever version you require) and the iPhone firmware files link.

Some of my apps, like DataMan requires me to update to 5.1 and above to be able to get the latest update. I also know that 5.1.1 is supposed to give the 4s a better battery life. My current 4s can barely last 1 day before I have to charge. So it was a no brainer

As frozzbyte mentioned, the settings for Cydia is saved in the iTunes backup so all you need to do is to download the tweaks from Cydia. Activator settings won't be saved though so you need to set it up again. MxTube videos will not play so you may need to download it again. My Applocker tweaks worked fine without having to set it up again.

I don't use MxTube but Yourtube 3 instead. Once I install back Yourtube 3, the video list I've downloaded are there but I have to manually copy back the videos to the Yourtube folder. Beats having to redownload those 720p videos back.

Need to research where activator stores it's pref file so no need to reconfigure activator.

Added on May 26, 2012, 2:05 pmFuh ... done installing all tweaks and themes. Now my phone back to normal already. Nasib baik I only have 43 tweaks and apps from cydia. biggrin.gif
*
Frozz, maybe I'll buy yourtube3. MxTube is free but it has a lot of limitation like it's not connected to my google account where I have all my favorites.

Still trying to remember some of the tweaks I have. I keep doing something and them realize, aikkk why is not working only to remember that I need a tweak for that heh heh. Busy at work but I'll come in once in a while.

if i clean restore by downlod ipsw and then shift+restore..
the data will be wipe?

to jb using absinthe 2.0.1...do i really need to clean restore my iphone...
if not do all the apps, music or contents will be wipe after jb?
*
If you are already on 5.1.1 and not jailbroken yet, you can try running absinthe without doing a fresh restore. If you are not on 5.1.1, you need to upgrade anyway so I would recommend you doing a fresh restore especially if you are coming from 5.0.1 jailbroken iPhone. It is better to start fresh as the jailbreaking process usually moves some of the system files around.

This has happened before with absinthe for 5.0.1. Maybe this is the same issue. Try and jailbreak again using absinthe 2.0.1 and see, restore the old backup after you have re-jailbreak using Absinthe.

Cydia still have some issues. I still cannot download my MusicGestures tweak. Some of the tweaks I installed I also forgot already so still racking my brain. The most important one has been installed though. Maybe I need to check back the Cydia Tweak thread. Maybe it will jog my memory.

*
For the iphone 4, you can use both but the easiest is Absinthe because it is just a one step method. The redsn0w method is two step (redsn0w tethered and the Rocky Racoon untether).

When you are playing music, you slide to the right to go the next track and you slide to the left (or is it the other way around) to go to the previous track. It beats having to push the small arrow button on the music player, especially of you are driving.

You must have downloaded an incorrect firmware. If all else fails just do a normal restore via iTunes without pressing shift.

Guys the 5.1.1 revised version is out. Does it affect the absinthe ah? U guys mentioning the 206 & 208 thingy is it talking about this?

Added on May 27, 2012, 6:54 pmI plan to update from 5.0.1 via setting (OTA). Or more advised to update via Ipsw? So confuse...
*
Download the IPSW. if you do via OTA, you may be getting the 5.1.1 second build 9B208 version which cannot be jailbroken by absinthe.

Make sure you download the correct IPSW.

Help I got this message when I want to do SHIFT+RESTORE.. "The iPhone count not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3194). What I should do?
*
This is host file error.

Check your host file and remove any lines with xx.xx.xx gs.apple.com or put a hash (#) in front of it an do the Shift + Restore again.

Shawn means apps that you transfer the purchases to iTunes. When you connect the iPhone to iTunes, right click the iPhone icon and just choose "Transfer Purchases". Apps that you purchased via the iPhone will be transferred to iTunes. The next time you restore, iTunes will sync back the apps to your iPhone. The iTunes backups all the settings for the apps but not the apps itself.

Added on May 28, 2012, 4:36 pmI would recommend either you purchas PKGbackup from cydia which backs up Cydia tweaks or Aptbackup (which has never worked for me).

Or before restoring/upgrading, write down the list of tweaks you have.

Fix Error 3194

The fix is the same regardless of what operating system you are using:

  1. Quit iTunes
  2. Locate your hosts file, in Mac OS X this is /etc/hosts and in Windows this is c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
  3. Open the hosts file with Administrator privileges
  4. Add the following lines to the very bottom of the hosts file:
    CODE
    74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com

  5. Connect your iPhone to the computer
  6. Launch iTunes
  7. Put the iPhone/iPad/iPod into DFU mode by turning the phone off and then holding down the sleep and power button for 10 seconds, then release the power button but hold onto the home button until iTunes tells you that the device is now in recover mode
  8. Use the iTunes Restore feature as usual with the iOS device
Once your iOS update is finished, remove the “74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com” line from your hosts file again so that iTunes can properly update as usual
*
This is incorrect and misleading. You only do this if you want to restore to a custom firmware or if Apple server is not working and you need Cydia to verify the firmware file.

By putting the IP address as gs.apple.com you are tricking iTunes into using Cydia as the verification server. This only applies for 5.1.1 if Cydia already have the SHSH saved for your iPhone.

If you have never jailbroken the iPhone, then Cydia will not have the SHSH and you will still get the 3194 error.

If you just want to upgrade/update/restore to a stock Apple firmware (5.1.1), then you just need to make sure that the host file is not tampered with (therefore you need to remove the gs.apple.com line) and let iTunes point to Apple Verification Server.

so means if you have not yet jailbroken before than erase the gs.apple.com from host file

if have jailbroken before then need to enter ?
*
The only reason you would want to have gs.apple.com is to bypass the Apple server.

The reasons for bypassing the Apple server are several

1. You want to restore your iPhone to a firmware that is no longer signed by Apple, thus only Cydia (with the SHSH) can act as the verification server

2. You want to restore to a custom firmware to preserve your baseband

3. You want to downgrade your firmware

If you are planning for the above, the you need to have the host file pointing to Cydia instead of the apple server

If you are on a factory unlocked phone and would like to restore to the latest firmware from Apple, then you want Apple to verify the firmware and you need to remove the gs.apple.com from the host file.

hi Sifu Sifi sekalian....

currently i ady successful JailBreak my iphone 4S 5.1.1(9B206) with Absinthe 2.0.1. so my question is IF let say Apple release another update IOS and i want back to Original (no jailbreaking), can i just Update & Install the New IOS?  hmm.gif  hmm.gif
*
Shouldn't be a problem at all. If you just need to upgrade to Apple Stock firmware, just download the firmware file from Apple server and do a shift restore and you'll be good to go. All the jailbreak will be wiped clean and you get your warranty back.
