i5 3570k @ 4.6GHZ on Air with Asus P8Z77-M (RM3xx mobo)

QUOTE(codenamew @ Aug 26 2012, 11:10 PM)
I am using P8Z77M motherboard and I just wondering where is the setting for VCCIO? Is VCCSA related to VCCIO?
As for LinX and Prime95, LinX is what I should use to test the cooling limit and the max temp whereas Prime95 is to be used for Vcore testing.
Correct me if im wrong.
Thanks bro owikh for clearing my doubt. Now im trying to find the sweet spot for 4.1Ghz on stock fan. waiting for noctua nh d14 to come in.

Added on August 26, 2012, 11:19 pmand one more thing, my ram is corsair 8gb 1333mhz kit LP. can i oc it to 1600mhz ? i tried to OC to 1600 mhz before with 4.1Ghz at 1.17v, but get BSOD.any idea?
*

P8Z77-M doesn't have VCCIO option. Afaik Asus combines it together with VCCSA like their old Z68 platform. I meant, who knows... nod.gif
VCCSA is not VCCIO but it is related to IMC also, it may or may not help RAM OC. No harm to try upping it.
I don't own the RAM so can't really comment on its OCbility perhaps a google search will help you. It's about increasing vdimm, VCCIO, VCCSA, loosening timings etc.
Noctua is a great air performer so you won't go wrong with it. biggrin.gif

bro owikh, i manage to pass 20pass under ALL condition for LinX but I get BSOD when i try with Prime95.

My OC config
4.1Ghz @ 1.25V
VCCSA=+1
VLL=Auto
VRAM=Auto

BSOD CODE 0xD1
*

0xD1 is usually caused by faulty drivers though at times they can be caused by mismatched or failing RAM.
Anyway, I didn't see your LinX snapshot. Forgot to take? biggrin.gif laugh.gif

aiks, forgot to take a snapshort of it.will try to run it later and take the screenshot. so is there anything i can do? run with prime95 BSOD but not LinX. I thought LinX is more stressful than Prime95.
*

To sort out bad RAM stick or OC, use memtest. Run pass >400%. Multiple lauch memtest to make it stresses all CPU cores. Google of dont know. If it failed then you need to play with vdimm aka VRAM, VTT aka VCCIO, VCCSA aka IMC, RAM timings. If it passed then you should suspect insufficient vCore on the CPU itself.

thanks bro. i up my Vcore to 1.13v for 4.1ghz with 1333mhz ram speed. Doing fine with prime95 for about 2 hours and still running. perhaps i can still test my ram stability using memtest.

welcome mate... enjoy torturing your chip. tongue.gif

yeah.n i have loads of patience. now im finding the lowest voltage for 4.1 as i have already obtained the lowest votlage for 4.0. trying to plot a graph for all the readings...
by the way, my chip is made from Msia. how good is it? any chance of hitting 4.8 using noctua? is using the default noctua TIM is enough to do the cooling?
*

I cannot comment on ability of your CPU because every chip is different be it Malaysia or Costa Rica. You will have to try it yourself & don't forget to share it here.

I run prime95.. Then i "ter" tidur.... Then i wake up the prime95 was gone.... And then i check.. It restart...
*

Suspect is insufficient vCore.
run again & keep an eye on the BSOD code.
BSOD 124 & 101 is commonly known for vCore issue.
good luck

But is it possible to get insufficient vcore for stock speed? I didnt do anything yet at the oc tweaker....
*
QUOTE(codenamew @ Aug 28 2012, 10:28 AM)
I have read somewhere on the forum that the Vcore for stock speed is insufficient for certain chips. Perhaps bad apple. The user are requires to put a few notch on the Vcore and it goes stable. I will try to find the source for your reference.
*

It is possible, some mobos has bad BIOS & set vCore too low while in idle or load states, bad LLC. MSI had this issue earlier on their Z68/P67 board & they fixed it with a BIOS update. smile.gif
Now all you have to do is run the prime95 again & report here.

one more thing that i would like to ask, is it necessary for us to update our BIOS? my BIOS version is outdated and I afraid after I update, it will not stable for overclocking.
*

A newer BIOS is supposed to be better than the old one. It should fix the issues found in old version. There are beta and official final BIOSes. The beta BIOSes are not fully QC validated yet but are final release candidates with fixes to address current user problems. Use at your own risk and manufacturer will track problems reported for analysis and replication. The most stable one is the final release which is officially posted on their website. On top of that, you can always back flash to previous version as you like.

I think LinX 20 loops is not enough.
Last night set 500 runs overnight, passed 22 loops then went to bed. woke up in the morning found my PC rebooted. Most prolly needs vCore as much as prime95 1.48v instead of 1.416v sad.gif

bro owikh, im using corsair 1333 vengeance now. if i wan to upgrade to Gskills, which one would you recommend me? using noctua nh d14 between.need to know the clearance as well.haha.hope u can advise me since you r good at overclocking proc n ram.
*

You must decide what budget and speed you are looking for. TridentX, RipjawsX & RipjawsZ are compatible with Ivy. According to THIS list, they do not have clearance issue with Noctua NH-D14. For TridentX you will have to remove the top fin as suggested by GSkill (wont void warranty). Google.

Good to go bro. Anything that's OCed altho mild still better than stock.

I think your 2666 kit with 1400 is not on the list yet.
0340 for Ripjaws is hynix and for TridentX is Samsung,so maybe this can be noted as well.
2400 & 0260 for TridentX still unknown.
*

Thanks for sharing such a useful info.
Lol G.Skill has so many serial numbering systems to distinguish their kits maybe because they are afraid ppl will buy RAM based on IC. They mix bad and good IC on the same model to confuse ppl.
I praise Corsair for exposing IC info clearly on their kits. May be they have all the good ICs haha...

anyway,do any of u have idea how far my RAM can oc? using vengeance LP 1333mhz CL9. if i want to upgrade from that ram, which speed should i opt for?
*

Not sure how your current RAM will perform coz I don't own one.
Any IB should be able to achieve at least 2400 so pick any kit which suits your budget.
I personally love Samsung IC based RAM such as:

1) Team Xtreem 2600C10
2) G.Skill TridentX 2600C10 or 2800C11
3) Corsair Dominator Platinum 2666C10

They are good clockers up to 3000+ & of course not cheap biggrin.gif

Nothing wrong spotted perhaps a bump on vCore would help.
