BATTLE FOR WESNOTH
Blogger's Comments
With all the rave surrounding the apple and now android game Great Little War Game, which is a turn based strategy game, I just couldn't understand how Wesnoth flew under the radar. Don't get me wrong, I played the game on the iphone when i had it, and GLWG was an OKAY game. It had nice 3D graphics, but i felt it lacked the maturity of other games that were in the market. Just as I was scratching my head wondering how the hell did people miss Wesnoth, a comment in Android playstore revealed everything. "I dont like the fact that i have to rate the game to get a standard grenadier unit. I Paid for this game. I shouldn't be forced to do things to get full functionality".
Ah i see, forced ratings and advertising.
Oh well, back to Wesnoth, Wesnoth is actually a ported PC game to both Android and the Apple system. It has insane depth and strategy, and makes games like GLWG childish and more attrition based in comparison. Wesnoth has an insane amount of unit types due to several factions, and each faction has several types of units. And i mean really distinct units, not mirror units with different graphics.
Terrain plays an important role in your strategy, like Elves are harder to hit in the forests while Cavalry get bonuses in the plains.
Your units can level up as they kill enemy units as well, and when they do they even have specific jobs that they can specialise in, each giving new abilities and attack strengths.
It has a great skirmish mode, exceptional AI, multiplayer, and wonderful campaign mode that will keep you entertained for days. The only con i can think of is the text can be a little small and hard to see on the handphone device, though it has no such issues on tablets.
In a nutshell :
SEVERAL FACTIONS
Each Faction has several DISTINCT units. NO MIRROR UNITS.
Each unit can level up, and have different job trees for u to choose and specialise.
Terrain plays an important strategic role and can win/lose you the game
Great AI
Great skirmish mode
Multiplayer
Great campaign with good storyline and script writing
A MUST HAVE FOR ALL turn based strategy fans.
Do yourself a favour and get this game. A wonderfully underrated strategy game
