what did KIA SC say about the steering and the "distance to empty"? they able to solve it?

The car is still at Kia. Will update once i get the car back this evening.

SA told me like BMW adaptive steering.

When the car is station, is the steering wheel free play very bad?

I remember I read from manual saying that we should never fill more than 70L petrol but did not mention why? Probably your k5 measurement no longer accurate coz u always fill more than 70L? Do share with us what Kia told u and how they fix it.

Juz to share, fr Petronas Sg Besi to Ipoh, in front of Jusco.

Distance 211.8km, Average speed 101km/h, 7.2l/100km, Used 2 bars of fuel and Distance to empty 588km.

Basically follow the speed limit all the way wif 90% cruise control on.

That 2 bars of fuel isnt accurate. As i mentioned earlier, i too did a 200km drive at around 180kmph and i too used up 2 bars of fuel. When i refilled, i pumped in 27L of fuel. Doesnt quite add up.

No free play. Its very firm during low speed driving which is expected since its hydraulic not electric. BUt my issue is when u go over bumps or rough roads. Thats when the steering jumps. Its been reported by a number of Optima users in America.

Kia decided to keep my car overnight. They have also informed their HQ technical dept regarding this issue. According to them, there are similar complaints by users in KL too.

My other problem is the auto wipers. When i switch to auto (first drop of the stick), and then change the intermitent speed, its still in auto which should not be the case.

Added on June 19, 2012, 11:00 pmYeah rite. It adapts the other way around. Instead of getting firmer when u go faster, it gets more wobbly. Kia needs to train their SA's better.

I know tt mate. The initial readings is slow. After the 3rd bar, it starts to disappear fast. I believe it could be the design of the tank or the positioning of the fuel gauge sensor.

Its both actually. Some time back, i did share that the Optima fuel tank has got a long 'neck' but the sensor is located way below that. Hence, why u can usually fill more 75L if ure quite empty. But this neck also causes the first few bar readings to be inaccurate.

U could be rite. Not sure whether the k5 is using the wedge shape fuel tank. The top part of the tank wider than the bottom. This would oso b a possible reason of inaccurate readings.

Keep us updated man. Cause i also feel that the steering get unsteady at high speeds..
regarding the auto wipers, mine too works thats way...

Bro, every car has issues. If u google, ull find problems with most of the car models in the market now. So if ure looking for a car without problems, ure probably better off with public transport.

Can't they like switch off the electrical assist or something?

I dont think that's the problem actually. The Optima comes with hydraulic steering. Dunno why they keep saying electric assist. But seems that the steering issues in America are far worse than here. My problem is no where as serious as any of the complaints listed on that website.

If this is the steering issue then u need to send the car to Kia Service. Let me know if the problem is solve.
