till today, i have no problem with the glove box...in fact, i open the driver side car door, or using the paddle shifter, or the boot release, or the electronic seat hell lot more than the glove box...and none of them bother me the least

my point is, glove compartment box is small part of the car, and u wont be using it any more than the above mentioned...in fact, ur wife will use it more to store their tissue or their sunglasses or keep their 2nd/3rd sling/handbag/makeup bag...and my wife been doing it, and till now no prob after 2 mths

if it is only glove box that hinder u from buying this car, then this is a good car !!
What he means is that the glove box is quite flimsy and the closing mechanism is not good. Ive experienced this in many test drive cars. This was also mentioned on overseas websites. But as ive said before, no such thing as a perfect car so i guess ill overlook this. More important are the specs, design, engine, transmission and the 5 yr warranty.

My heart calls for K5 but my wife and family man me looks at sonata. Need help to convince my wife on k5..... HELP
Why do they prefer the Sonata? Its actually a no brainer. I dont see any aspect of the Sonata which makes it superior to the Optima.

Hello K5 brothers,

I'm planning to change tires and enhance the tinting when the ride arrives. Would like a durable silent tire with good performance as well. Have no idea which one is better on the tinting. Appreciate if some of you can advise. Thanks!

Tires is between Goodyear Eagle EfficientGrip or Yokohama DB
Tinting is between V-Kool Elite or Ecotint E-Par Excellence
Go for Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2 la. Its rated better than even Michelin Pilot Sport 3. Efficient Grip is medium range.

Guys,

Did you get your sunroof insured? If so, how much? Would it be separate from the other windows?

same like what others mentioned before, i just insured my windscreen/windows/sunroof on the normal standard 15% insurance premium from the total sum insured. In my case, i paid rm450 for rm3k coverage.
The windscreen alone is Rm2,500 and someone said the sunroof is RM8K.

no need to inform JPJ. The release letter is just a formality for u to know as confirmation that the ownership endorsement for the car has been removed by the bank from the JPJ system. If it is not removed from the system, u cant sell the car even with the release letter. The release letter was used prior to 2007, when they all switch to online control.

If u bring ur registration card to JPJ, they will cross chop sign the "hakmilk dituntut oleh Maybank Finance Bhd" without charges...but if any shop taking ur car, they can do online search to check if the car is clear of debt
I finished paying my car loan in 2010. But didnt bother to collect release letter in Penang. Now my dealer in Ipoh is asking for it. Can't they do it themselves since im trading in the car to them?

Poor decision in my opinion. Koup is for singles not those married couples intending to have kids.

Hi, get your vehicle quoted with Rainaway Silcoat, then after that MAKE sure you wash your car every week. Your car will look brand new for up to 2 years. No worries about the coating eating your clear coat paint la. Only watermark/bird boob can eat your clear coat paint, and watermark is from our acidic rain. Or WORSE! Stone chippings! ergh
I polish & wax my car once a year and its paint looked good even after 9 yrs. Still shiny and no fade at all. So not sure if all these expensive products are really worth the money since normal polishing also works.

The alarm might void your warranty pls consider .....
Guys i think we need to think carefully about this warranty concerns. Yes certain things might void the warranty, but best to always check direct with Glenmarie rather than rely on individual service centres or word of mouth. Do keep in mind that its in Kia's interest to maintain the warranty as that ensures repeat servicing for the next 5 yrs. Mind you, Kia service isnt cheap. Ive got a Kia sitting in my home and generally its more expensive than Toyota. The initial servicing will be cheap but once u start changing parts, then ull see the cost increasing. Kia stands to make alot of money by ensuring customers keep coming back to them. So i dont think they would be that quick to void a warranty as they stand to lose as well.

Im also seriously considering the alarm. Its not a foolproof system but it has its advantages. I rather risk voiding the warranty than make it easier for someone to grab my car. But havent put much thought into it. Will need to check with Kia first.

I think it is not Kia's intention to make a lot of money.....it is Naza's intention. Both Kia and Hyundai share lots of common parts, and Hyundai's parts are somehow cheaper than Kia.
Just my 2 sen.  icon_rolleyes.gif
Yes i meant Naza.

Why do you need to install a alarm system in the car? Doesnt the car comes with a alarm system like all other cars?
There is no alarm. Just a locking mechanism.

Guys, i have a question regarding the car alarm / locking mechanism. Does the K5 have an engine immoboliser? If u leave your car unattended for a certain period of time without actually locking the car, does the engine get immobolised?

Even the best alarm in the world can't help if:
1. They use tow truck
2. They just stop you on the road and take the car (i think this happen very often to camry)
Alarm systems and other security measures are not meant to be foolproof measures to prevent theft. It merely acts as a deterrant or to slow down potential car thieves. There is no alarm system in the world that can actually claim to be 100% effective.

So the allignment function on the display is not really the allignment of the tyres but actually to tell you the tyres are not straight? Thats a disappointment.

Guys, i have finally collected my Silver K5 today in Ipoh. Filled up fuel to the max of 75L (RM142). I dont know why the book states max is 70L only. Anyway i drove back to KL after that. Fuel consumption was excellent on the highway despite driving at 140kmph. The 1st bar only dropped after reaching KL at the 245km mark. But 2nd bar dropped at 270km mark but that was in spirited town driving. I had 4 passengers in the car all through.

Besides that, all else was ok. I test drove the car 9 times before buying so nothing much new. Except the mood lights are practically non existent and the button lights are very mild. Should have been white instead of red. The Nexen car tyres are not too bad. Not as noisy as i figured it would be. The tyre pressure was set at 190 for all 4 so i pumped up to 240 as specified. I think i am not gonna change the tyres. Will use it till its worn and then change to Michelin / Goodyear then. I dont see it being worthwhile spending another RM2,500 to change tyres. If the Nexen was really bad then it would have been important to change immediately but now i dont think so.

But i noticed that the rain sensor isnt that sensative. Only activates when amount of water on windscreen reaches a 'disturbing' level and doesnt do a final wipe after the rain has stopped completely despite having some water on the windscreen. Totally different from the Peugeot system which activates the moment a few drops are present.

Based on the power i experienced, i think the car will not find it easy going up Genting especially with passengers. The car is quite heavy and the 2.0L engine is not really suited for this body. A Turbo or a 2.4L will be ideal.

But 1 thing which caught my attention before and it did again this time was the audio system. Despite all the correct settings, i didnt get the surround sound experience. Most of the sound seemed to be coming from the front speakers. A sound setting at 6 would be just nice for the front but rear passengers would probably hear it as a 3 or 4. I only got the surround sound feeling when i adjusted the fader and put +3 for the rear. Doesnt seem right at all. Are you guys experiencing the same?

Parking was a real experience especially at shopping malls. Also trying to selit the car into tight roadside parking is virtually impossible due to the length of the car. I really need to install the front sensors. The high bonnet and long front overhang is really a bother when negotiating tight spots. But i must say the rear camera and parking sensor is quite accurate. But my advice would be to never depend on it 100%. Still use the traditional method of checking your side mirrors and doing the occasional turn back to confirm. Getting a dent or a scratch is really not worth it.

But overall, the car is great. Has alot of confidence and ride handling is good. Ive been getting many stares at traffic light stops and makan shops. The last time i had this experience was in 2003 with my Vios when it was first launched. Great feeling i must say.

Thanks for the good review CB98. Just wanna check, how many bars are there when the fuel tank is full? You mean to say that the 2nd bar dropped after 25km of city driving? Wow....I didn't know its such a big difference driving in city compared with driving on highways.
Total 12 bars when full. So basically 2 bars for the first 270km. BUt the first bars normally take longer to drop due to the sensor position. Ull only know your full tank mileage (range) upon uve consumed the whole tank. But just keep in mind that the full tank capacity can go up to at least 75L or more and not 70L as stated in the car manual.

Guys, i intend to do the Sierra Glow tomorrow. Is it really that good? I travel alot outstation every week so i need something good to protect.
