How much is it priced at? Anyway, 2GB of RAM is rather little by current standards. Since RAM is dirt cheap now, you can upgrade to 8GB if you want, and perhaps negotiate to have it thrown in with the laptop without any surcharge.

I try to change the hard disk mode, also the problem come again. I don't know if the kernel problem or what since i try in my old acer 4340 can perfectly installed without any problem including wifi or sound.

any one??

or is it because i have 2gb of ram in window 7 64 bit??

try upgrade ram to 4gb or 6gb when it can support up 4gb per slot. then using tune-up utilities check for errors, set up the profile and make sure you have done with latest update, and at nvidia GPU activity monitor add sims3 with recommended setting..

Updated the front page with information on upgrading to Windows 8 for the V3-571G, and also with information on where to get a free key from Microsoft for Windows Media Center on Windows 8.

Just wondering how I can flash my bios to UEFI. I'm building a hackintosh for this laptop and I have sound and network but lacking the Intel HD 4000 support, need to do some changes to the UEFI settings..

hmm.gif. If I'm not mistaken, the UEFI bios is only available for the latest V3-571G that comes with the Intel Core i7-3630QM, based on the available bios files located on Acer's website for the V3-571G.

I would like to change the internal video memory settings in the bios. Is there any other way I can do this? I'm so close to getting Mountain Lion to work fully on this laptop, its just missing a few things like the HD 4000 and wifi >.<

hmm.gif? I'm not sure how Moutain Lion works, but I'm sure that the bios screen always appear before the O/S loads. Even if it's not the UEFI version there should be a setting inside the bios to allow you to adjust the integrated GPU memory amount.

This is what I thought as well. Even with my previous desktop I could change. But with this BIOS, the option is grayed out and set to 128...

What bios version is your V3-571G running on now? hmm.gif.

Added on November 23, 2012, 10:53 pmEdit : Sorry, I just took a look at mine, turns out that there's actually no option for that, but it's actually just a reading of the dedicated memory the IGP has.

V 1.07. I did also upgrade to the latest one (not the 2.xx coz that is for UEFI) but still the same.
I did a search for InsydeH2O bios unlock and it seems that there are a lot of hidden options, but you have to flash them to get them >.<

I've run Backtrack 4 and 5 before on V3 571G. I used LiveCD and USB and both works well. I never tried ubuntu or fedora. I also did try a USB linux application, GParted, which is part of ubuntu, and that boots well.

What software did you use to create the USB?

Anyways,

I am experiencing overheating with this laptop. Since I purchase, whenever I run games or other high end software (HD media players etc2), the laptop get very hot pretty quickly, usually below 15 mins. I get scared some of the inner components might burn.

Is this usual? It gets kinda laggy too (especially games)

For the temperature, it does seem to be normal for it to reach pretty high temperatures. I haven't gotten the processor to go pass 90C yet though as far as I remember. It can reach 80C easily though even when the load's average.

Do you use yours with a notebook cooler anyway? If yes, then perhaps there's a need for one with a stronger fan. Alternatively when the laptop's out of warranty, perhaps you could experiment by removing the CPU vent guard laugh.gif. I don't game much anymore on the laptop because of its inability to stay at a not-so-worrying temperature, but it should be fine to use it at over 80C.

Anyway, download a copy of HWMonitor and leave it running in the background while you game. Then share a screenshot of the results and I'll see if something doesn't seem right.

I don't use a cooler but when I play games I just put something under the back of the laptop to raise it up.

Below is the stats before gaming. Just usual activity, chrome/skype,AV etc2.

Yeah, that's pretty hot hmm.gif. Mine hovers around 50C only for web surfing and other light usage. But it could possibly be because of the change in thermal paste I did a few months back.

Add-on : I also just put it on the cooler without plugging the fans in. The lowest it can go is about 40C, non air-conditioned room.

A UEFI bios looks like this :

user posted image

Other than looking much better than the usual bios setup, it also allows you to select things using the mouse.

Anyway, I believe that the UEFI bios is only compatible with the latest Acer laptop models that come with Windows 8 by default. You won't be able to switch to a UEFI bios from a standard bios.
