1. Your travel itinerary + gear
Recently Japan: Kyoto-Hiroshima-Tokyo-Takayama-Nara-Koyasan-Osaka
a850 + 85Z + minolta50 + sigma28 and my el-cheapo velbon tripod

2. Your travel experience
I'm a solo traveler, but i've been to Japan before. Nevertheless the language barrier is there esp i cant read nor speak Japanese. However I treat this as challenge and adventure.
Traveling w/ my gears is indeed heavy, but thats what i get for not having zoom lens :| Nevertheless i feel safe travelling w/ my gears in Japan.

3. Nice places for photo shooting
Japan has many nice place. Its down to what you want to shoot. I could summarize that every city or prefecture is different. So I would recommend try to go to few prefecture is possible.

4. Tips and skills for travel photography
[b]Nil. I suck =__=

5. Things to be careful or take note
Try to have a ziplock plasticbag and velcro stap in ur bag. It would come in handy in rainy/wet conditions

6. Last but not least... share your travel photographs here

My most recent overseas trip travelling for leisure is end of 2010... to Macau

1. Your travel itinerary + gear

I bring my camera bag and all gears inside which means:
- Sony A850 body
- Sony 50mm f1.4 lens
- Minolta 20mm f2.8 lens
- Sony 85mm f2.8 SAM lens

But when I was in Macau I did not have the 85mm lens yet. Perhaps I used my friend's Minolta 24-85mm f3.5-f4.5 zoom.

Oh.. and I also brought along a tripod... which I also borrowed from a friend. tongue.gif

2. Your travel experience

I found that when travelling and you really intend to take pictures, you need to spend a bit of time at each location. So it's not a good idea to join a tour group with a fixed itinerary. Those tour group usually rush you from one place to another and cannot afford you the time to really explore one location.

I would say travel on your own or with a small group of like minded friends. Arrange your itinerary before the trip (which involves some research on the locations you intend to go to) and don't rush.

3. Nice places for photo shooting

All of Macau! Haha! Seriously, Macau is a very small place and with lots of historical sites. Do not get sucked in by those glitzy casinos. If you do get sucked in, you'll lose much more than your opportunity to take photos.

4. Tips and skills for travel photography

If you intend to take night shots of landscapes, get a sturdy tripod. Invest in a wide-angle lens. My own biggest pet peeve was finding the 18mm end of my kit lens on my APS-C body was never wide enough for me! So, I bought a full frame body and got myself a 20mm lens... Some people like wide focal lengths or fish eye but I do not like too much distortion.

5. Things to be careful or take note

If you want to shoot street, try to blend in with the crowd. Be discreet and be aware of your surroundings. Having quick reflexes helps but always be polite and respectful. If they don't want you to take their pics then don't.

6. Last but not least... share your travel photographs here

Here's a link to my blog where you can read my long winded posts (with photos of course) if you have the time...
