Hey guys, I am going to travel Japan in Q4 this year. However, I might bringing my el-cheapo tripod to the trip too.

Wanna ask, normally you guys put the tripod in your luggage back or strap together with the camera backpack and put in the cabin?
*
What i normally do is, i will hand carry my tripod, and ask the counter during the check in whether i can hand carry or not.
If 'can not' is the answer, then i will check in it.
If 'yes' is the answer, then i will still request the counter to put a check in tag on it, and i continue to hand carry with me.
Reason being is, some cases the check in counter say 'yes, you can hand carry', but when you are at the security check point the security guard will not let you through with a tripod. If this happen, then you can just walk back to check in counter to check in without much hassle.

1. Your travel itinerary + gear
Recently Japan: Kyoto-Hiroshima-Tokyo-Takayama-Nara-Koyasan-Osaka
a850 + 85Z + minolta50 + sigma28 and my el-cheapo velbon tripod

2. Your travel experience
I'm a solo traveler, but i've been to Japan before. Nevertheless the language barrier is there esp i cant read nor speak Japanese. However I treat this as challenge and adventure.
Traveling w/ my gears is indeed heavy, but thats what i get for not having zoom lens :|  Nevertheless i feel safe travelling w/ my gears in Japan.

3. Nice places for photo shooting
Japan has many nice place. Its down to what you want to shoot. I could summarize that every city or prefecture is different. So I would recommend try to go to few prefecture is possible.

4. Tips and skills for travel photography
[b]Nil. I suck =__=

5. Things to be careful or take note
Try to have a ziplock plasticbag and velcro stap in ur bag. It would come in handy in rainy/wet conditions

6. Last but not least... share your travel photographs here
Japan

Quite true.
Now I pay more attention to the weight of bodies and IQ/gram equation.  laugh.gif
Lurking around with a 1KG+ camera is very very tiring.

Fuji x-pro 1. light and good IQ.

QUOTE(azxel @ Apr 3 2012, 04:32 PM)
Hmm.. just saw this thread...

Will be going around Europe end of April for about 2 weeks.
Been thinking of what lens to bring along. Any recommendations?
I have a 60D with
- 17-50mm f2.8
- 50mm f1.4
- 70-200 f4 USM
- 90mm f2.8

Been thinking about getting either a Tokina 11-16 (or Canon 10-22) for close up (indoor / inside the Vatican City) or a 18-200 for a single travel lens solution.

Appreciate any advice or feedback

Will of course be bringing along the little S100 (compact and easy to carry around and pull out)
*
Agree with sniper. 17-50 + UWA (Either 11-16 or 10-22)

I guess this won't be much of a problem if I had a used 5D mkII and a 24-105 L..

+1, this is the best option if you want to balance out among focus range, IQ and weight.
