there should be.
current 300mm f/4 still has aperture ring, nikon seems to be updating all lenses to G now.
300mm f/2.8 already G and VR2.
Yeah. The aperture ring is there because it's one of the first Nikkor lenses to receive AF-S update. The same generation as the 17-35mm f/2.8.
I actually am not too picky. I don't mind the older 300mm f/2.8 either and like the current optics in the AF-S 300mm f/4, they are already excellent. I only wish the 300mm f/4 was a little faster. If I were to upgrade, I would look for a faster AF-S motor.

either that, or wait for 100-300 f/4.
hopefully both with nano coat and made in china so will be cheaper

LOL We can only hope. The 100-300mm f/4 would be excellent.

LOL.
ND filter too troublesome, unless get lee / cokin then can take off / on anytime.
If I want to go Super GT, I need to get one myself. Slow shutter speed will hit into very small apertures ---> difraction !

Really its a worthy upgrade. Sharper, better color and smoother bokeh
Yeah, I thought about the 50mm f/1.8G too but the thing is I don't see myself using it. My 50mm f/1.8D is one of my most unused lens.

Now im thinking of getting 85mm F1.8G

I also thought about this but I currently have the AF 85mm f/1.4D. The newer lenses produce sharper image and faster focus but is the sacrifice on slower aperture worth it? Would I just be loosing out on 2/3rds of a stop going to the newer f/1.8G?
