so the 18-55mm kit lens + 50mm 1.8G will be perfect for d5100 starter? XD

basically i will be using the dslr for travel pics, graduation pics (which is very soon- expecting lots of portraits, i mean, 2-3 people shots), besides will the 50mm 1.8g applicable for group pics? around 10 people.

(wow, great knowledge u have there, looks like ive to cling to this thread more often)
*
kitlens can take group portrait with 18mm without an problem

50mm can take also but you need to walk very far behind to take group picture of 10 peoples

50mm 1.8g is good lens, but i prefer 35mm 1.8g

so the d5100 and 18-55mm + 1.8G 50mm will be sufficient for a beginner like me? XD.

still stuck between 50 and 35 haha
*
yes...it is enough even indoor also no problem nod.gif

D5100 is already very good for beginner to intermediate level with pretty good ISO performance, 4 fps is a bit slower than D7000 and AF points is lacking which you might have some problem shooting sport with it using 3D tracking but the placement of the AF points is quite good

the lack of AF motor on the body means you cannot use D lens and older manual focus lens and only can use AF-S and G lens

overall is good, it got everything you need there, button is lacking due to the articulated LCD screen but after you get used to the button and menu interface it shouldn't be a problem, though you might be slower in accessing some features compare to other body with more buttons

between 50mm and 35mm, it really depends on the user it is better that you try out both lens before deciding, 35mm is a bit wide but not wide angle while 50mm is a bit tight

35mm is good for shooting in places with tight space, take PC fair for example, you wont want people accidentally walk in front of you while you are taking picture of the show girls with 50mm are you? biggrin.gif

Your questions you better consult a lawyer if you want a solid answer

For the 2nd question did the model sign any release form?
*
let's say no form, everything is done online? hmm.gif

no need consult lawyer but will definitely ask a lawyer if i get a chance to meet one tongue.gif

35mm and 50mm any sample shots? sad.gif
stuck btw this two.

erm, besides, which one is equivalent to human eye?
*
i only got 35mm and dont have 50mm so i cant really show you the sample pic

35mm is like 50mm with few step backward from where you actually standing

50mm for me is close to what my eyes see, no magnification but a bit tighter and slightly limited field of view compare to 35mm

that is when both 35mm and 50mm on crop sensor body

QUOTE(hidden830726 @ May 29 2012, 10:25 PM)
Well, let me chip in my view,

I started off with D5100 with kit lens, kit lens great, but the moment i try 50mm 1.8g, i get hooked with the 1.8 and bokeh, so much so i naively believe that 50mm will be sufficient for everything, which prompt me to sold off my kit lens 18-55.

Then one fine day i go company outing, im being ask by my boss to take group photo because i seems to be the one with DSLR. With only 50mm, i blush so hard and in the end, i use my fren Nikon Coolpix to capture the photo. From there onwards i understand, 50mm by itself, cannot fit to every situation.

I bought 17-55 2.8 soon afterwards.

Then im being ask by my senior to help cover one of the company sponsor sport event, i realize i need a longer lens, so that i can shoot them from far.

Then i bought 105 f2.8 after the event.

Then with anticipation for FX camera, i sold off my 17-55 and bought 16-35mm F4 instead.

Then i complaint my DSLR too heavy for all occasion, feel like wanting something lighter so that i can carry everyday and for street photography, I bought Fuji X100 soon after that.

The Moral of the story is: Photography is a never ending, non satisfy, egolistic hobby, understand what you want, get what you need, and spend what you can.

wow...you really changed a lot of gear sweat.gif

Well, im still using D5100 today, its a great camera as many mentioned before me. D7000 sensor etc

Nothing much for me to complaint as it gives good picture.

Yup, many things change this 1 year ++, I have improved alot too, but still same camera.

Imo, for new buyer thinking of starting photography, why not consider D3200 instead of one year old D5100 or 2 years old D7000?
*
actually i dont think they will give good ISO performance to D3200 if they dont want to spoil the D5100 market

any tips to handle my d7000? (i'll be charging it tonight)

the shop seller told me it must be taken care to avoid fungus which I think is SCARY. lol. what is the proper way of taking good care of it? smile.gif

[do you guys normally bring camera bag together? wont it be an attraction for robbers especially a kid like me?]
*
read the manual on how to handle la, no need treat it like your newborn baby one

dslr are built to last and torture (to a certain extend) my D5100 shot under rain, kena splash by sand from the last time i shot racing event, still working fine flex.gif

QUOTE(tctham @ May 31 2012, 09:40 PM)
don't go out to weird places or at weird timing and i guess it should be alright.. there are a lot of dslr out there.. just be more aware of your surroundings.. last time when i used to take night landscape photos, often people on motorbikes stop and ask questions.. but there are people around, so there isn't much issues..
*
if night i dont dare to bring my dslr out alone, unless got someone accompany me

haha.. last time got la.. nowadays, if wanna ajak people out abit susah.. so i just go out alone is much faster and convenient.. kekeke
i got use the auto iso, i edi set maximum ISO is 6400, and minimum SS is 1/30s (for the kit lens since i have VR).. but when i use bounce flash with the nissin, it chose 1/20s and iso 500.. @_@ there's still room to bump the ISO.. why the camera dowan to up the ISO but decrease my shutter speed instead is a mystery to me.. sad.gif
*
at night i dont really feel safe, even day time as well

most of the time i will go crowded places or shoot inside shopping mall laugh.gif

Lol the shop people tells me to keep out from rain, if kena must wipe asap to prevent fungus. Then if keep hot and cold example open and close air con will fasten development of fungus too. It makes me scared lol. And say the service to clean the fungus would be very expensive. Haha

P.s
This is really a new born baby haha. A lot possibility will happen when carrying such baby around lol. This baby worth two iPhone lol.
*
scare this scare that dont bring out la laugh.gif

no need worry about fungus la, fungus only grow if you long time never touch the camera/lens, and they only grow under humid and dark environment

D7000 got weather seal, my D5100 no weather seal i still shot under rain if the shot is worth taken

weather seal is there for a reason la
