Just one question, why are all the Lego toys these days are so expensive?

I remembered when I was young, the most expensive set was around Rm200+ and that set was huge.

Now i went to Toy R Us planning to get a Lego set for my little cousin brother, some sets can reach to like Rm600+, even the smallest set are going for Rm50+.

There are many reasons:-
1) Oil price; lego is made from oil
2) Exchange rate with Denmark
3) No official Lego malaysia here, so there is a middleman to import the stuff
4) Tax on toys
6) For some unknown reason Star War sets are insanely expensive

.. among other reasons. But if you stick to those non-licensed sets like City, Creator etc the pricing is better.

I managed to get this glass cabinet from Carrefour for about RM 159. My 8258 can barely fit into it, but it fits nonetheless.

When I saw this picture, one thing ran through my mind.. IT'S AWESOME. And with that, I felt like rummaging in my storeroom to dig up all my Lego sets. I've done many MOC's but nowhere that big or impressive (not so many bricks to make something color-coded or nice enough..). Wanted to buy more LEGO but so expensive. I only buy impulse sets nowadays. Dah lah SPM year, no time to play or clean back up. And I found out that BrickSet removed their 'Top Reviewers of All Time' listing. My name: asianlego

I miss the days when Lego was much cheaper.

+ does anyone know when is the next warehouse sale? icon_rolleyes.gif

8258 is very difficult to find nowadays and I have not seen it anywhere. Not sure if distro or brickboy will bring in any new sets.

Hmm... I'm very interested (click my signature to see my LEGO creations) but need a few questions answered:

1) I assume for origami, the "expert" origamist needs to be there to show off his/her skills in folding ? For LEGO, do I need to be there to "play" LEGO in front of the visitors (which I'd say is a bit... awkward!)

2) If I am not required to be there, will the event staff/volunteers take their utmost care in ensuring my creations in safe/good condition ?

3) What is the allocated "booth" size for each participant? To avoid mishandling/itchy hands, LEGO creations needs to be displayed in a transparent display case too. Do we provided any?

Fellow LEGO-ians there. Maybe we can group together and put up one ultimate exhibition for them?

for lego technic fans, its worth looking at singapore ebay. if ur lucky enough, the items sold there are much cheaper than the retail price in singapore toy shops. just to share, i finally bought myself that 8258 truck for S$250 (RM$595). kinda hard to believe, but its brand new seal in the box and its the original lego. retail price in malaysia is around RM$989 if im not wrong. singapore still has alot of those truck selling at S$339, and if u are a member of simply toys, u can get discount for S$302. theres one selling at ebay for S$265, 2 days left. goods things must share for those who are still looking for that red truck smile.gif

the set is still in singapore, im not sure if i want to keep it there or bring it back here with me. all my lego technic sets are here in malaysia. the best way to bring it here is, like what i read from the previous comments, is to open it up and bring it here but i havent tried that yet. most likely the custom will ask i think...

from my previous encounter with the customs, i had to pay abit of tax eventhough my items were bought 4 years ago. sometimes, they let me go. it depends on their mood i guess.

Hi,
Let me clear up all the questions you have on Mindstorms. I am a big fan, but hard to locate others like me tongue.gif.

Yes Sasbadi is the SOLE distributor of LEGO Education here in Malaysia. They sell the Mindstorm NXT Education Set. They are the organiser of the FLL and NRC (National Robotics Competition). You can check my blog, as we just attended the FLL held just last week here at the National Science Center.

As for the Mindstorm NXT 2.0, it is brought in by the SOLE distributor for LEGO. If you walk in Toys R Us, Parkson, Jusco, you will see their on the shelf products. The company name is called ALJ.

If you are interested in any competition, please check out lego.sasbadi.com, as they organise both the FLL and NRC. Please note that FLL is open to all schools, while NRC is only opened to government school.

From the question you ask, I presume you dont go to government school biggrin.gif

Please feel free to PM if you are looking to other Mindstorms users here in Malaysia.

Eric
