Those doing your ACCA, do consider going to coursera and getting additional certs from the TOP AMERICAN universities.

It seems that you can now study what you want when you want for free - a small fee if you want to get the certificate from the organisation.

I think it is a great way to add value to your skill set and get certified on you area of specialism.

ACCA students that are doing 1 or 2 papers this semester can consider getting some additional certificate - Wharton certificate for finance or marketing (foundation in MBA) is only RM150ish. You get a professor to teach you and participate with all the activities.

In my opinion, the world of education is getting ready for a huge change due to to wave of free educators coming online.

Very disappointed with ACCA. They collect so much fees but their server couldn't handle heavy traffic. Been trying to pay my fees for more than an hour already. sad.gif

Thank you for this information, Mr.Frodo. Any other universities we should look for that you can recommend apart from Wharton?

There is also https://www.edx.org/school/mitx/allcourses

Which is another provider for this certification. I tell you, if I was at your age and have unifi in the house, I would be spending my time looking into the courses that was never within our grasp due to parental pressure and financial constraints

This is really a good opportunity for those studying at the current timing thumbup.gif

The article above could very well apply to ACCA students. As we know, the english standard of Malaysians as a result of the emphasis on Malay is generally poor. Students have good english because of factors external to our education system. Many students enter ACCA attracted by relatively low fees and its professional reputation. The std of english of many of our students may be so poor as to create problems like in the letter. It is serious enough for me to want to make this warning:

DANGER! DO NOT ENTER UNLESS YOUR ENGLISH PROFICIENCY IS GOOD ENOUGH!
TEST OF PROFICIENCY - CAN YOU READ MANY PAGES OF SCENARIOS THAT HAS TO BE READ AND UNDERSTOOD FAIRLY QUICKLY?

I am not discouraging students but my main objective is to give them an early warning before they embark on something which may give them years of heartache and poor self esteem. If you have an accounting degree and want to pursue ACCA do so with a positive attitude. Give yourself a maximum time frame and consider working only after you have not been able to reach that goal and remember our education system is at fault not you.

Definitely agree on that. ACCA does have a heavy marketing strategies in place. Don't be attracted by those counsellor. They are merely giving advice. You should gauge your own ability, especially your english standard before enrolling into it. Remember that ACCA might give you a fast track towards your career, but if you continuously failed, you will end up slower then a degree holder.
As for working degree holder planning to take ACCA, do not rush for it. It is advisable that you take 1 to 2 papers per semester.

Yes - ACCA is not for those with weak English, but at the same time I have seen students with really weak English pass the paper.

If you cannot understand what is being taught in the class in English - best solution is to do something else. A degree may not be better since most of the Degree's have a 4 time fail kick out policy.

In that case, I have seen more students being kicked out of the degree after spending a bomb since their effort is low or English is poor.

The sad part now days is that most of the Uni's out there are printing degree's out without any care about the type of graduates they produce. Not to say that those that pass ACCA are any great also - some of little control over their language and usage of foul language that you would think that these are not professional but barbarians. Majority should have learnt the importance of professional behaviour and acted correctly.

Peer pressure is higher now days compared to before due to existence of social media, which seems to spread news - good or bad without consequences taken into account.

I would recommend those in this forum to re-look into their facebook posting and comments - whether there is any way you would be contributing to others stress and pressure.

Enjoy studying - don't make it into a rat race to see who comes out first.

If not mistaken, in order to get a full ACCA membership, one needs to have a certified working experience, right?

Question is, can my supervisor certify it, regardless of the type of qualification my supervisor has?

Or is it that only ACCA supervisors can certify my working experience?

The certification of the work can be done by a chartered accountant that holds a qualification from a body that has IFAC membership CPA, CA(M), CIMA or Recognised Supervisory Body in UK (AIA).

The qualification of your supervisor should be one of those, if it is not, try to get someone above the supervisor that has a recognised qualification.

Hope that helps
